The throne is a cold and lonely burden Or he's the descendant of Excellbum* King Marth who sent several dozen generic units, his mentor and his wife to...untimely deaths
I hope there are potential downsides for just simply recruiting all your enemies, like they do bad things, betray you, lower your approval, etc. It would also play into your ability to judge a person's character and talents, which is important for a leader.
Good alternative is forcing choices between units. "Pick this unit, you can't get that unit." And like, recruiting some enemies will bar you from getting a better unit somewhere down the line.
@@XellosNi Thats what I was kinda hoping would happen. Kinda like Dragon Age 1. I was half expecting someone to leave my crew when i spared the thief. Or hoping that later on there are consequences for my actions. Or if you dont get them you just lost access to any mage class.
I actually ended up losing out on Gammel and his archer friend once I got to Elheim because I didn't spare Gammel thinking there would be consequences for it. Kind of bitter in a way
Why? She went to battle for the most petty of reasons and supported a cruel, oppressive usurper. The only reason she defected at all was because she has the hots for Alain. That's not a noble or even a good reason.
I find it really interesting how varied the optional gains for denying/executing some characters are. Some give rewards that're arguably just as good as a whole ass character, some give marginally arguable rewards, some give stuff that'll be lesser in the longrun, and some just... give you nothing. looking forward to seeing how much this variation continues into the full game.
@@GloriousGEO It would be great if you could let us know any other benefits of recruiting a character. For example Auch can find Lapis Pendants in ruins. So it would be nice to know if we are missing out on anything like that by refusing to recruit.
It seems like there's no moral meter in this game. It's a shame. The Ogre Battle games had this and it directly affected who joins you. The ending was affected too.
Two spots actually, if there's ruins he'll explore them and grab a lapis pendant at each one on the south part of cornia and one in the north near the church up there.
Even divine shards are a grindey but infinite resource from mining. Only strong argument for executions is if you’re doing a really min/maxed challenge or speed run, or a deliberate “execute everyone” run.
Mandrin is the only one I have executed because I was thinking that Angel would be angry and not join team anymore If I don't kill the man. Anyone did same?
Canonically i cannot see Alain executing Mordon in any way. He may have been an enemy, but he was a standup guy and even the people of the town pleads for him to be spared because of this. Theres just no way He'd execute a Man like that, while just throwing a murderer in jail.
I'm surprised Alain does not have a choice dialogue such as "Those who hath turned their cloaks hold no coin to bargain for mercy's breath." when asked to spare their men.
The only execution I would've done would probably be Gammel but Gammel and Mandrin joining you down the line is such a huge gain that it's tough to miss out on, particularly when you're trying to not use mercenaries.
@@GloriousGEO Gammel was the only one I turned down. I thought he'd go back to thieving no matter what I chose and I'd have to fight him again before truly recruiting him. I even let Mandrin go, but I was surprised I didn't get either of them after the Elheim encounter.
Im reminded of A Song of Ice and Fire "The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword." Guess its worth playing the game multiple times "Recruit everyone" "Mercs only" I wonder if mercs only might be slightly better due to choosing their growths
@@GloriousGEO Refusing these recruitment usually grant some item likes if that's not for nothing, so it's fine enough if you don't want to build those unit or in generic only run. Well unless if the item you get is also the the item that unit come with and also unless that unit name is Melisandre (choose to execute 2 units for nothing which does sound anti-climatic to me)
Among these, Gammel is the only one I declined. I haven't met him again yet, but seeng as he's alive and I pardoned his buddy, maybe there's a second chance of him joining? Not too sure tho.
my first Execution/subjucating choice was Gammel and I loved the Idea of sparing people can lead to some future consequences and vise versa when you Execute them (Mordon with the bridge quest). I was ready to kill him in Elhiem when the story is scripted to just letting him go. at that point I Realized that there are no consequences of recruiting psycho paths or executing good people.
The only one I've left out of the picture on my first playthrough was jeremy. Kind of came off as an irredeemable scumbag. Didn't feel bad about that at all. That and the thief at the start. Thought handing him over was only right.
Is Mordon going to town with a different village girl every night? And thats why one of Mordons soldiers say another one my lord? And why a village girl begs for his life in his stead?
Monica, Mandrin, Tatiana, Gammel, Mordon, Berenice, and Auch. All worth killing/refusing. But that's just my opinion. If you like a character, uh, don't kill them. Sharon gives you a lucky coin if she joins you which is super helpful. The rest give no rewards at all.
Is there any actual benefit to doing this? Being lenient with everyone always works out in the end, so i never saw a reason to execute or refuse someone...
Is there actually any reason you shouldn't just recruit everyone you can? Like in the SNES Ogre Battle game, recruiting some characters will close the door on recruiting other characters that may have a grudge against the people you have in your army. Alternatively, killing some people would drops some powerful or unique items that might actually be more useful than having an extra character. Does Unicorn do anything similar to this?
@@GloriousGEO That's a bit of a shame. I've been doing a bit of research before buying, and it's quite a disappointment to learn there isn't any karma or alignment system, and that there is just one proper ending. Will probably still play it as it looks and feels stunningly beautiful... But man I was hoping for an modern update of the whole PR side of staging a rebellion...
did you forget jeremy? where is that guy from the desert place, hes like one of the three dudes I think genuinely deserved to be executed in this game lol
Not really, in the early game the rewards you get from executing the black tallon members can somewhat help with your early game economy and makes one future side quest harder but long term it’s not worth it. The others are just straight up shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t recruit them. in fact not recruiting some characters locks you out of future side quests or recruiting other characters.
@@GloriousGEOI just completed Elhiem including Mandrin's quest, but I did not recruit Mandrin. The bandits went off to find medicine. Did I do something wrong to miss Mandrin's recruitment?
Picked all execute on my play through to threaten the kings life in battle deserves a good old execution if you are not being completely mind controlled if you ask me and excuses make me sick so got to get it done XD
Monica and Mandrin giving a total of 45 divine stones make VERY compelling case to not get them. Specially Mandrin since he alone can get you Ochlys very early
Is this really all of them or it's demo only ? Also does the story get better ? I just hope that Galerius is not the only main antagonist and that we will have some interesting plot twist.
I do hope there is greater impact and dialogue for these choices. So far its just Alain coping and gaslighting himself everytime he decides to kill someone. Even in actual war without self-righteous princes becoming a pow was still a prevalent result of capture rather than execution.
@@GloriousGEO Well, at least it should affect the ending (I mean that's a RPG standard)since this is just the demo. Would be interesting if Alain can "convince" everyone into a neutral good ending.
