Man, even the deaths just ain’t the same I have too many nitpicks with how dull it feels compared to the original The biggest one for me being when Mario unlocks the door he doesn’t say anything and enters it normally Where as the GBA he’s excited to go through the door, even the door comically stretches out and then closes back up like in Mario world, jumping out towards the screen into the second portion of the level exclaiming his excitement that you can feel There’s a certain charm that’s lost here in the remake Also, falling from tall enough height, while it may be irritating to some, it’s an homage to the original arcade and comical as hell I would’ve at least liked to see it remade not punishing the player and costing a life but adding a bit of slapstick for humor while stunning the player similar to getting hit while lifting the trash can but on stuck landing on his head for a moment Also I miss the original shy guy knock out sound effect
I don’t mind that they removed the fall-from-too-great-a-height deaths. Why, continuity. If Mario these days can survive falling from great heights in his latest games, why can’t he do it in this one (Heck, those heights aren’t even as high as they were in Mario 64!)?
The levels were built around Mario having fall damage, some levels in the remake can be easily exploited without it, which isn't a matter of challenge, it's a matter of giving the player the ability to engage with the game less without offering anything to compensate for the change which is just bad design no matter how you slice it.
Okay. The game looks great already, but I’m a little thrown off by the death animations too, but hey. It’s Nintendo so they have to change alot of stuff…right? I’m not too disappointed about it, it’s just that I prefer the original animations more
