The thing with myth is that popular is not the same as canon. Something becomes a myth because one can't trace a single author behind those ideas, as if they themselves weren't sure of when did they start believing in these things or at least became part of their culture.

There's no real greek myth. The greek pantheon evolved over the course of a millenium, many gods have origins outside Greece, or descend from the Minoans and Myceans, who's version vary. Some tales contradict each other, and it would contradict even more if we had access to more texts than those which survived. It's ok to take license
