====UPDATE==== A few points have been brought to my attention! (Thank you viewers!) - Arcane was also tied to Item Discovery in Bloodborne - Mind does not effect attunement. Mind directly effects the size of your FP bar. Talismans will effect spell slots in the game as you start with a fixed amount. - Endurance is tied with equip weight - Dexterity also increases cast speed for incantations and glintstone sorceries. As well as decreases fall damage. - Bloody Wolf is NOT a starter class. This was just part of the CNT, It will likely be an NPC you run into OR you can probably find the Bloody Wolf armor set early on in the game. But this is basically just the Vagabond class for those wondering. I AM VERY IMPRESSED that a lot of you will be starting with a Wretch class in Elden Ring. But this video is more for newtimers to the series and I would NEVER recommend to a new player to start as wretched! Let's be more supportive of new people getting into the Souls series!

I guess I should just be thankful that they can't face stab me. Seriously, this is the dumbest idea to change EL to END again. It was perfect on STR.

@@AdoreYouInAshXI The best way to counter it is to make stat requirements for the armors. It would be more accurate if you can only use the crucible armor set with 20 dex, 30 str and 10 or 12 faith. I don’t like the idea to go like Ds1 for the equipment but anyway, I’m not a pvp player.

Incantations are mostly healing I recommend prisoner which is a bandit and astrologer mix Sorceries are the actual dps magic I just want to use a sword to cast spells which I don’t know if they have

@@prismatic9890 I just saw the dragon head incantation and you’re def gonna have fun playing that way But you’re gonna be more up close so get your strength or dex up a bit so you can handle melee fights Strength can compete quite a bit with Dex builds now unlike in dark souls 3 can’t wait to play this game!!!!!!

I choose wretch like classes because I feel like picking a different class is like starting a puzzle thats already partially solved. It feels better for me to start with shit gear and use what I find. Feels like a stronger sense of progress in the early game.

Interesting, I just know what type of player I am so I pick the class with the closest stats to that. Early game level ups are cheap so its easy to fine tune to your playstyle. And id rather have any of the other starter class weapons / armor than a Club and no armor even if its for the first hour or so. But again... to each their own! Thanks for watching and commenting!

My issue is that the old Deprived and the new Wretch are not good for min-maxing in Soul games, because some stats lower than 10 is much more favorable. Still you are right and it is a good class to experiment with as a first choice, while you find out if you want magic, melee or a hybrid build. Then you can restart another class... or just keep going with the wasted stat points.

Play Wretch for your first playthrough so you can try different things. On your 2nd playthrough, you will know what you want and where items are, making it useless. 1st playthrough Wretch is like a (use what you find) challenge.

I think it's a great idea to try! Just don't get disheartened when you die, and stick with it! I first played the soulsborne series as a wretch (though not the same name in other games) without realising it was the hardest class, and it sure was hard, but it forced me to get good at the game and use the game mechanics to my advantage. I think for a first time in any Souls game its great because it makes you explore a bit more, and get used to different armors/builds. I believe in you, tarnished!

Let's go Bandits! I get the idea that Wretch is the best if you want to experience everything Elden Ring has to offer because of it's open world setting but even if I choose Wretch, I'd still be looking for Bandit class equipment and I do love it's play style, good at bows and can weild a bow and dagger if enemies comes too close.

i've got the same confliction. was all set to go Confessor to re-create MAgik from Xmen (female Demon Knight and would choose the imps/goblins summon at the start) but there was an extremely convincing Wretch video which i am maybe reconsidering :(

Mind doesn’t affect how many memory slots you have according the network test and official information released. I believe in one of the interviews they said memory slots are something found in the world.

im at a cross roads of either astrologer, prisoner, or vagabond. my most played is definitely quality/refined builds in ds 3 since i was able to use almost every weapon in the game...but melee/casting or straight up casting is also super satisfgying to build because you have to collect a lot of stuff. that sense of progression is fun as hell.

10:18 Funny enough, Ratatoskr actually say the opposite. If you’re a Souls veteran, this could be actually great to do a first time ever as a wretch so you can enjoy to scavenge enemy to get items. Of course this is only for anyone who would do that, personally I will go as a vagabond for traditional purposes since I away do my first time as a knight but it doesn’t prevent me to search weaker armor and weapons for collection.

Yea personally I have only picked SLV1 classes if I am specifically doing a SLV1 run of the game. Other than that I pick a more optimal build for a casual playthrough or a speedrun.

@@xoshnax5962 Don't be so haughty, of course this could be done like this. This is something I can do if I pick a knight (so the vagabond). But many peoples want to begin as a Sl1 for their first time (especially veterans) and there nothing to shame about it.

Prophet/Astrologer may be my builds but with prisoner or confessor in mind i'll have to go with that, it combines the magic usage i want and melee combat i crave plus faith spells look way more interesting than normal magic.

Confessor can be a Quality as well. He starts with 12 Strength and 12 Dexterity. So, he can be very useful for those who wanna make Quality + Faith.

Mind does not affect the number of spells you can have. Unlike attune it does not unlock spell slots. That will occur with game progression. It will just increase your fp and give you more casts of the spell(s) you have.

Wretch will be my frist play through, the best character to use, if you want to experience a real RPG open world, where everything you pick up has value & you will want to try everything, instead of starting off with good gear & weapons that will make you not want to try different things early in the game, but to each his own, 💪🏾🎯💯

@@funnyvalentine6670 My feeling is that the Vagabond is more a "Paladin" friendly class statswice, than Confessor. For me paladins are kind of tanky melee class with plate armor with some holy spells. But it's ofc up to you what you want to play.

Reject starting gear. Reject stats. Accept club. Accept loincloth, too small to contain your massive testicles, real or metaphorical. Accept building yourself up from literally nothing.

I am super heavily torn on doing a Warrior or Confessor i think. The main thing i am debating on is if i wanna go pure dex, Dex/faith or be a mad lad and go Faith/Int for both Glintstone and Incantations lol. I have only ever played bloodborne so i dunno if even doing a faith/int build would work.

Don't think you'll be able to do both faith and magic build... You could but you'd be limited I think... The way dark souls worked was you have a start for spell slots in this its "mind" so you'd probably only be able to carry 2 or 3 each... Now maybe it's different in elden ring but I'd doubt it... If you haven't played a souls game go for a mix of dex and faith or intelligence on first play through... I'm gonna play confessor... Get a good dex weapon with some pyromancy and incantations...

Best video on this I've found!💜 I haven't made it very far but in DS1 I play a dex-focused shield+rapier/scimitar build and I find it really fun. For Elden Ring though, I definitely want some Gandalf vibes with all the cool magic you can do, so I was looking for which build would get me the best of both worlds. From what I'm seeing, it looks like Prisoner, Samurai, or Vagabond would be best? As much as I love Ghost of Tsushima, I think I'll pick Prisoner for the higher intelligence, as long as I'm not stuck wearing that mask for long! Haha

I’m new to the series and can’t figure out who I want to play as.. I plan on playing with my best friend and I usually play a healer support type character .also using a bow a lot seems pretty appealing to .

I'd go with vagabond. It has the most forgiving stats meaning you can do any build without losing any or very minimal dump stats

Just a little constructive criticism: I know you know what you're talking about, but because you explain a lot of things only by comparing them to previous games, I feel like a lot of people new to souls games would have a hard time getting much specific detail out of this video. I think starting the video by actually reading off the in game attribute descriptions would've helped both new players and returning players trying to see the differences between the old games and new.

Also I just learned that a number of changes to the attributes have actually occurred since the network test. For instance, in the network test Strength increased equipment load, but it was changed to Endurance. Even more reason for returning players to need vids like this one. Keep up the good work!

For str/fth builds, hero and prophet are equal for ideal stats at all the usual metas. Hero is definitely the easier starting class so thats what im going with

the point of wretch is to do sl1 naked man run. if you want to "scavenge" you can literally start any other class and discard the armor. simple logic

What about multiple builds at once? In Dark Souls 3 I started multiple games in the first few days. I played a traditional Knight and Strength build about to the halfway point of the game. But then I stopped because I wanted to try a Dexterity play through, but I couldn't stop so then I finished the game. Then I went back to my Strength play through and pushed near the end of game. But then when I needed a break I started a Pyromancer and a Sorcerer. I don't know, maybe it's just my OCD or whatever, but I like having more than one game started so I can try different things and then whichever one pulls me in the most I go with that one and then go back to the others either after the full play through or when I want to take a break or mix things up.

@@RiverRockXIII everyone says wretch isn't optimal for a min maxed build, but no one will have the necessary game knowledge to make a min maxed build until the first playthrough is complete. Me personally, I'm going to get all of my stats to 60 on my first character eventually, so the class I choose is just based on gear I like to look at/play style I prefer. I never enjoyed playing the wretch, just personal preference.

Level up your arcane at least to 20 if you wanna do a bleed damage build. Some katanas later on require a 20 Arcane.

Yeah I've never understood why people think that the Wretch-type class is any harder than the other classes tbh. Not only are they the easiest to level but their starting gear is quite serviceable, especially their club (certainly when you intend on going full strength build in former Souls games).

It's only slightly more challenging in defense without armor. But you get armor really early anyway.

@@The_Babe Not only that but it gives you the freedom to experiment early on with weapons you find to try and decide a build rather than picking a class suited for a particular build before you even start the game. The wretch will definitely be my first playthrough so I can do some early experimenting with weapons to find a playstyle I may want to sick with.

At the start, it is objectively more difficult especially on a first playthrough with no prior game knowledge. It has no armor, no secondary weapon, no spells, and lower stats meaning damage and defensive scaling is lower. After the first couple levels generally all classes are on the same playing field given that they're being built well. An appreciable increase in difficulty can be measured and surely perceived. But I assume you just meant that you don't seem to struggle with the first few levels. Good job, you're a real souls fan.

@@ANONM60D I don't think you know what objective means. You're also using your own anecdotal experience. It's a souls game, armor hasn't mattered since like ds1. Run around naked for fast roll and don't get hit. All you people worrying about armor when you should be worrying about reading enemies and dodging lol. And lol lower stats. Yea that vigor starting at 10 instead of 12 is a real nail biter

In previous games I went for strength builds, which imo is easier but can get boring since there's less strategy. The hybrid classes are too hard for me to pass up.

I always play a paladin type character but I'm super split here! Do I play confessor and pump Str and Faith? Prophet and pump Str and Vigor? Vagabond and pump faith and mind? If there's a sacred seal early game I might go vagabond for the gear, if there's good armor maybe prophet. Confessor could be a safe choice to hedge my bets as it has a seal and decent gear. I'm also probably over thinking.

i’m doing the same, well i’m going for str/faith and i find confessor’s starting armor to be super cool as well so that’s just a plus, but since it’s equal in strength/dex if you want to use either weapon in early game, you can choose one without leveling up much! usually for each weapon there’s a minimum in its alternative stat which makes it easy since you start pretty high for both str/dex.
