"Four minutes. In four minutes, the Infinity, mankind's finest achievement, became a memory." If there was any line of dialogue/monologue in this game that actually dealt a blow to morale, it's that one.

@Alex Luca the plan seemed to center entirely around ramming dreadnoughts into Infinity's vital spots as quickly as possible. the fact that they skipped all the naval warfare and settled on such a headstrong plan, and the fact that it WORKED, really drives home the fact that the Banished really aren't fucking around

It really contrasts with how Atriox acted when he thought he'd killed Chief. Rather than showing respect, he basically just went "I'm superior, so you don't deserve my respect" and threw him out the air lock. @anotter321
@anotter321 2 года назад
Imma come out and say it. Escharum was probably a better final boss than the Harbinger. Character wise and gameplay wise. The Harbinger acts like she's the one in charge the whole time and really stuck up, yet the only thing keeping her alive is Atriox saying that she is useful to Escharum. During her fight, She is more annoying than hard. Escharum. He constantly questions his orders, has more humanity than other bosses. He wants a good fight, and in terms of his fight, it was hard, but really fun. I remember just charging him with a Gravity Hammer just for the thrill and out of respect.

@Alex Luca Judging by Escharum's character, I bet you're right. He isn't calling him demon because he's reverting to the Covenant ways, he's calling him that because he feels that Chief earned the title. The Spartans before fell one by one to his Spartan Killers, but Chief withstood each of them.

I really didn't expect much from escharum, I honestly expected him to just be atrioxs lapdog. But he's such a complex character, he really is just a soldier past his prime looking to die an honorable death rather then let his sickness and the loss of his homeworld consume him. One of the best halo antagonists we've gotten in recent memory.
@coletrain583
@coletrain583 2 года назад
He ended being my favorite character. This guy really deserves his own story, even his own game. I want to learn of the legend of one who taught Atriox how to fight. The Covenant fell, the Banished rose in their place, outliving the empire they broke away from and surpassing them. How ironic when the Prophet of Truth entrusted the Jiralhanae to lead the Covenant in the place of the Sangheili whom he felt were beginning to lose faith in the religion and eventually discovered the truth about Halo, he seemed to forget the greatest heretic was of the same species he entrusted with the Covenant's military and he was the first who got away and ended up getting the last laugh while Truth died refusing to admit or see he was the reason the Covenant fell, from within, while Atriox and the Arbiter, the two most notable individuals who defied the Covenant outlived it.
@WhyTho525
@WhyTho525 2 года назад
@@coletrain583 Definitley agreed here. We need more of Escharum. You can read more about him in Shadows of Reach, sure, but there he is mainly in the background and just acts like Atriox's top henchman. In Infinite, he was his own character and even managed to be more interesting than Atriox himself (although Atriox the same treatment as Escharum did, then Atriox might be able to top Escharum for me). I kinda wish that the Banished have first appeared way earlier than Halo Wars 2. Like imagine if we got a spin-off game which allows us to play as the Banished. From their rebellion to the moment where they managed to become a true force to be reckoned with. There, we could've been introduced to not just Atriox, but Escharum and others as well. Imagine playing as Atriox in one mission, then as Escharum in the next one. It would've been truly epic.

The Harbinger may be the final boss, but it was Escharum who carried the story and received the most build up. The Harbinger was just there, being nothing more than an unintentional side story, not to mention she wasn't interesting. This guy, his debut in a Halo game and he ended being one of it's most interesting characters to date, one we hope to learn more about before his death on Zeta Halo. Atriox founded the Banished, but it was Escharum who planted the seeds.

"Yes. But at the end he was just solider. Hoping he'd done the right thing. Questioning his choices" -Master Chief regarding Escharum. Perhaps the greatest antagonist I've ever fought and perhaps the only for which I had no hatred but only fear. Escharum was a dynamic leader. He honoured and fought not against the Chief and humanity but rather for the banished to honor Atriox. He did what he had to, what he believed was right.

So one of the things that I heard back when this game came out was that Escharum was a villain that was more talk and less fight (in short the opposite of Warden Eternal), which kinda made him a lesser character. I personally disagree, because for one, he's not just the villain, he's the big boss of the Banished operations, which means aside from trying to give each soldier and mercenary a chance at glory with killing Chief, he needs to be an economic and directional leader over one who desires spending time fighting all the time, basically running a big organization on a ring world. And speaking of which, for a halo villain, he's really just one big papa to all the men he works with (not so much a sugar daddy but a supportive and motivational father figure to his soldiers). Listening to his words, we hear him praise his recruit Atriox (despite being an underutilized character by 343), telling each banished soldier of the chieftains beliefs and motivations, almost like a good father describing his son. Alongside this, not only does he hate humans and tries to persuade them on how weak and hopeless, but we know that he understands who the Master Chief is and the distinguishing features that make him different from other Spartans. Like when Escharum takes a good look at you and calls you Master Chief instead of something like demon, spartan, or vermin, it kinda shook me because before infinite, no enemy (aside from his allies of course) has really called him John or Master Chief, its really feels like Escharum broke the "He who must not be named" rule.

Im glad they defeated the infinity and essentially reduced the amount of spartans. Those 2 things really were hurting the lore, there was no threat with them around. Now we can focus on master chief and humanity trying to survive a really big threat, just like the covenant was.
