In this video you'll see all the past finals from 2020-1998, including the insane goal Marco van Basten scored in the final in 1988 as well as the emotional rollercoaster that Cristiano Ronaldo had to go through in the final against France in 2016. no Denmark 1992 They weren't even supposed to be there but Yugoslavia wasn't because of the war and Denmark was a qualifier right after them so Denmark was added for Yugoslavia so it's the most surprising Euro winner

Ik 2004 is the bigger underdog by far, but shout out to the 2016 Portugal squad, coming into the knockout stages they were huge underdogs after barely squeaking by with 3 draws (perceived to be the favourite of an easy group). And especially after cr7 went down early in the finals not a lot gave them a chance. Especially Patricio clutched up hard

I'd say that Portugal were extremely lucky with their side of the knock out tree. For sheer conincidence, every major team found themselves in the other half and killed each other off: Italy, for example, would have had to beat Spain, Germany and France to reach the final. Portugal met Croatia, Poland and Wales along the way and won only one in all of their seven matches in regular time. But having said this, it is okay for me. Portugal are not to blame for this, because you can only beat the teams that are put in front of you. It is a nice thing with Euro tournaments that very good teams from smaller countries (Netherlands, Denmark, Portugal) have a real chance to win the whole thing whereas with World Cups it has never happened (except for Uruguay which were a major football force in its days).

@Manuel.jimenez they were individual moments but the game as a whole dragged for long spells with little happening and grew increasingly foul laden. It was a game that France completely dominated and should have won before extra time but lost their way a lot. Portugal were resolute but offered nothing going forward for long spells. Not a bad final compared to others but certainly no classic and wouldn't rank as one of the best game in a mix bag tournament. But hey to each his own I guess

I have watched all the world and European championships since 1998, but I think the most interesting final was in 1996. The defeat of the USSR with a population of 300 million to the Netherlands with a population of 3 million is another matter.

Portugal were utterly outplayed in that 2016 final but somehow France lost it. Greece were surely the most boring winners. Spain were brilliant in that 2012 final. Italy almost stole it in 2000 but France, with Zidane running the show, played some beautiful football in Euro 2000 and deserved to win it. Denmark were pragmatic in 1992 but the beautiful football they played in much of the 1980s was largely absent That 1988 Dutch team was one of the three great Dutch teams: Cruyff's glorious 1974 World Cup team; this 1988 team; and that superb 1998 World Cup team.

I know that people are allowed to be fans of one player in particular, but I still thought it was comical that in the summary of the 2016 final there was more footage of Ronaldo than of all of the other players combined, even though Ronaldo barely played. I mean, I don't know about you, but after that I was almost expecting to see images of Ronaldo in the other finals, maybe Ronaldo watching the game on tv, maybe Ronaldo taking a shower, maybe Ronaldo walking around in the park...
