eh, i found myself only liking around 4 tracks on the entire album, it just felt a bit cheap even for the band, but this was something they worked on during COVID so its totally understandable. on the plus side, they made up for it by releasing music videos for every single track and released the 3001 Remix album that was quite good as well.
Yeah I'd say it's one of his worst takes (besides calling Universe's narration an "oversight"). B3000 is melodic, catchy, groovy and psych brilliance that flows seamlessly. As a whole and has singles. Pity he doesn't get it 🤷
fantano's opinions of king gizzard albums have always been extremely silly to me. he seems to just really like nonagon infinity and anything that deviates from that sound he just doesn't care about. poly getting a 7 is criminal, and sketches being a FIVE is just crazy. he also hated The Dripping Tap, which i don't even know how to address
Polygondwanaland is a great record, but I can understand the sentiment behind it, it's both very technical yet very same-y given most of the songs' reliance on the open B string.
You gotta respect the consistency in their discography even if some experiments don’t pan out as much as others. You can tell the band is always having fun and that goes a long way towards keeping the music interesting and engaging.
Honestly firmly believe that MotU would have probably been at the top of this list were it not for the narration. Feels like everything he loved about Nonagon Infinity was present there but, pushed even further and it was only let down for him by that aspect. It's a shame, cause it definitely is my fav album now. Narration took some time to grow on me, but The Tale of the Altered Beast I think is the band at their peak, at least as far as the pre-jam era goes.
@@maxd.9311 For me it's almost as good as nonagon (which is the quintessential gizz album imo). I feel like the narrations are necessary as breaks from such constant energy, and in the first third they almost feel like breaks in-between rounds of madness. High 8 for me. edut: i do find the segway tracks, specially the samey sounding alter me's do stretch it a bit too much though
Thank you for saying exactly what i think and letting me know there are some people out there who appreciate this album as much as me. I love how MotU is like a crazy/wacky story sang to us and we can just listen and enjoy the exhilarating ride
King Gizzard: "So we experimented a bit on this new record, basically pushed ourselves outside of our co......." Fantano: decent to strong 7 don't need to hear it
@@saintsea-hat7891 people forget hes a critic and always going to be super harsh with the scores. 7 from fantano is more like an 8 from most people. which is pretty fucking good
This band could make an all time great album if they took like 2 years without releasing. They make a lot of good shit every few months and I could only imagine how great an album that took their best stuff over the span of 2 years would be
From what I can gather on their song writing process, that will never happen, Stew said that he would never sit down and try to make "the biggest and greatest" album because the pressure would make him quit on it, it seems like it's easier for them to just spontaneously engage in a new idea and then just move to the next one
Fantano to me is in this weird place where I wholeheartedly disagree with just about every opinion he expresses and think his reasoning is always extremely flimsy, and yet I'm always curious to hear what he has to say because he just seems like such a chill guy with a genuine passion for music.
I usually find his takes on Gizz to be at least a little frustrating but hearing them all in a row is infuriating. And Butterfly 3000 being below Sketches is just such a hilarious take.
Once you hear some of these songs in person, you want to buy every album😂. Love how they go all out for vinyl pressings and I hope that’s how Fantano listened to these for review with an audiophile setup
my opinion on king gizzard albums: 12 Bar Bruise: 7/10 Eyes Like the Sky: 5/10 Float Along-Fill Your Lungs: 8/10 Oddments: 7/10 I'm in Your Mind Fuzz: 9/10 Quarters!: 7/10 Paper Mache Dream: 8/10 Nonagon Infinity: 9/10 Flying Microtonal Banana: 8/10 Murder of the Universe: 8/10 Sketches of Brunswick East: 7/10 Polygondwanaland: 9/10 Gumboot Soup: 7/10 Fishing for Fishies: 7/10 Infest the Rats' Nest: 8/10 K.G.: 7/10 L.W.: 7/10 Butterfly 3000: 7/10 Made in Timeland: 6/10 Omnium Gatherum: 8/10 Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava: 8/10 Laminated Denim: 7/10 Changes: 8/10 PetroDragonic Apocalypse: 9/10
Of course Nonagon Infinity is the top. I don't think many people would disagree with that. I was surprised Float Along and Fill Your Lungs didn't appear in the video at all. It is my personal second favourite and I think it's one of their most palatable records, one that would please those who aren't too much into experimentation.
I don't think Gizz was on his radar and/or he wasn't very popular when that album came out, and I imagine he doesn't feel the need to go back and review it now
Leaving out float along and mind fuzz is a crime for sure. Most crowd pleasing albums next to nonagon. You never know what they will play live, but always hope for head on/pill 😂😂
I am in awe that he gave Butterfly 3k and Sketches the same rating. I mean no hate to Butterfly 3k fans but Sketches is such a good album in comparison, I'd give it a 7
Bro just likes the harder stuff gizz makes, i dont think he fully evaluated some of these albums by themselves as i think he should have (minus KG and LW for obv reasons)
i'm sad he picks the most cliché as his favorite albums, but its not to say that he's wrong or the albums he picks are bad in any way, i think its funny that the Discography is so vast that any album can be top dog in some perspective even if its not the goal of the album! long live the gizzard!!!!
I think people don’t realise that a 7 is a high fantano score. He isn’t IGN, it’s not the base ‘I don’t care about this’ score. If you look at most of the albums he gives a 7 to, the reviews usually say it’s a very solid record with a few shortcomings. The fact that gizzard consistently gets 7s is really impressive. Although Poly’s 7 is the only 7 I don’t agree with, that’s a light 9 just cause of crumbling castle.
Maybe it’s because my tastes have changed, but KGATLW peaked with Chunky Shrapnel. Paper Mache through CS is a progression of amazing albums, and I’d love to see the band reach those highs again
I haven't liked a single album since Chunky Shrapnel. I'm very very excited for Petrodragonic etc. etc. whatever its called lol. More heavy Gizz is what I crave. My top albums are Nonagon, Polygon, Murder of the Universe, Chunky Shrapnel, and Infest the Rats Nest at the top.
I think everyone in the comment section is whining a bit too much, it's always a win for a band or artist to not ever get something lower than a 5 and you're just wasting it
Melon has no idea what he's talking about sadly; I remember back when he came out and ranked the series of 2017 albums, he trashed some of their best work. I would not use this guy's opinions as a way to judge their discography by any means...
