Yes! I love this band, they are elite musicians that we haven't seen in a very long time. And this month they are giving us another thrash metal album!
nah, won't be thrash. Supposed to be the yang of this albums ying. There's chat that it will be synthy just like the last third of the last song on this album (Flamethrower). Perhaps the last third of the last song on the new album will be thrash to flow back into the previous album. Confused?
It is like Tool and prime Metallica had a baby who grew up listening to Slayer, while all of this somehow happening backwards in 70s prog scene. One of the best albums of the year so far for me. Btw, love the intelligent and well spoken delivery of all your videos. What you speak is as fun to hear as how you speak it.
I'm a huge fan of their Sketches of Brunswick East & Flying Microtonal Banana albums, yet I really liked this one too. Such exciting band! Ridiculously prolific & creative
Nice👌.. Love when King Gizzard harden the tone and offer us such slabs of unparalleled psychedelic thrash-metal. Perfect timing because perfect stuff for summertime fun. Roadtrips with friends, beach, skateboard, bbqs, parties, anything : something to put in the playlists already..
I am loving your channel and cannot seem to get "Justin Hawkins rides again, again' out of my head. This band is great. Loving the diverse sound and use of eastern, metal, punk elements.
Thankyou for making me aware of this band! 😅 Anytime I find an upbeat rock song with awesesome guitar solos which I can dance to it brings me great joy!🎸💃 😊 *Happy Gila Monster Noises * ✨️🦖 ✨️
King gizzard always remind me of hocus pocus and their song focus. Both are brilliant and hugely underrated bands, hocus pocus playing focus on the old grey whistle test is definitely worth a watch, the speed of it compared to the original is crazy. But still brilliant.
Great video! This is proof that nobody comes close to JH when it comes to music reactions. Gets copyright striked for music reaction, continues to post music reactions objectively about the same band. Music is music. Politics is irrelevant and Justin Hawkins will always judge music by the music.
Nuestra Señora de los Angeles de la Porciúncula is the full name of the city in which you now reside in, funny enough. Also, while listening to Motorheart today, between you and Rick Springfield, I'm trying to resolve why no one can spell my name right. 😉 Love ya, brother 75.
The trouble with being so prolific, like Bob Dylan or The Brian Jonestown Massacre is how are you meant to pick your favourite album. Nick Drake, easy; Joy Division easier and The Sex Pistols didn't give you a choice but as a fan you feel you must be missing out on something. You would think they would have the good sense to either die, break up or at least rename themselves after the third album so fans can collect the complete set.
Sounds pretentious to say it but I genuinely think they're the closest thing that the 2010s has to Radiohead & The Beatles. Started out playing fairly generic of-the-era rock & then a couple albums in, for whatever reason (probably psychedelics and/or an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world), their minds cracked wide open & their sounds all progressed in astonishing ways. Imagine if John & Paul or Thom & Jonny were just starting off their careers a decade ago, their sensibilities would naturally be way more disparate because of how easy it is to sample so much diverse music. Gizz are a bit like the vanguards of infinite digital content, showing how a band can make the most of the attention deficit era we all find ourselves in.
Yes, it's a very deceptive song too. As the minutes tick on you realize more and more how there's a lot going on. I'm even picking up some Iron Maiden vibes by the end of it.
FYI, they are not a thrash band, but they explore the sound. Also, they are a "pro- mother earth"? band. Theyre Gizzverse (theme throughout their albums) is about humans destroying earth, AI taking over, the horrible future path we are on, etc. A lot of their stuff is calm and collected, a lot is hard rock. Very diverse sounds and incredible musicianship.
To the best of my knowledge, they’re playing this song on a six string tuned to C# standard, with the low C# dropped to a B. And the time signature in that outro section is actually 11/8. Keep the great videos coming J Hawk, love you man
Beato! Sorry, wrong channel... I'll get my coat. Seriously though, I admire anyone that can count time signatures like that. I stood in the audience at a Dream Theatre show with people shouting about the time signatures to each other. I was lost! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6... I missed the end of the bar again didn't I?!
Even of I'm not a faithfull metal listener, I simply adore their "we do what the f***k we want" attitude. Last year they released three jazzy/prog/whatever records and now they got back to thrash metal again. I cannot help but love them!
I saw someone comment recently "they haven't found their defining sound"... and I thought maybe more bands should abandon the idea of a 'defining sound' ... Gizz just have ultimate creative freedom :D Just keep listening to them Justin... ALL OF THE SONGS. You may still be confused but you'll be entertained!
That’s ridiculous, they DO have a defining sound, they found it in I’m In Your Mind Fuzz, refined it in Nonagon Infinity, and solidified it by Polygondwanaland. Everything else they have done, has been injecting their sound into all their other works and concepts.
Gila is pronounced Heela (Spanish). I think that's what they're chanting around the cauldron, although I can't understand what they're growl-singing either.
Just saw them do a face melter set followed by an all acoustic set in the middle of the Tennessee forest on shrooms. I definitely understand this band 😂
Incredible show … already have tickets to several shows this year but feel like I need to catch an acoustic show no matter what m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_8kzP0T06MI.html
I loved the song! I think music is not for understanding but for loving it. I liked very much specially the guitar... What you called "east sound" ... Or something like this! It reminds me to the sound which some rock bands did here in the South of Spain in 70s...when they started to do rock, coming from flamenco. Thank u for the analysis and recommendation. Have a great time in LA!
Saw them 2 nights back to back in Chicago this week. Best show I've ever seen. The energy was unbelievable. The sound was epic. Can't wait to see them again when the opportunity arises. Best band on earth right now
At the last minute I decided to look for tickets and bought two of them for Monday night. That show was so outstanding that I bought a ticket for Tuesday night's show also. Easily two of the best concerts I've attended over 50 years of seeing rock bands in their Prime. All I've been doing for the last 2 weeks since those concerts is listening to them over and over again as well as some of the other concerts on this tour. The music is addictive. I don't know what they're putting in it but I'm totally hooked. The Monday night opener of Rattlesnake/Honey and then Shanghai was when I really went all in. I know absolutely nothing about music or musicianship. Maybe that's why I'm not confused about what KGLW are doing LOL I imagine sometime around the turn of the next century my grandson will be telling his grandchildren about the time his grandfather got to see King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
11/8? Sounds like an 8 and then a three, either way, belting riff and still accessible without being to bonkers. Class band and always surprising. Paper Mache Dream Balloon is a step in a completely different direction but still great
I remember when I first found out about king gizzard, they were like the only band I listened to for a whole year. They have such a wide variety of albums, it's hard to get tired of them.
I saw king gizz live a couple of weeks back in Liverpool at the Olympia and you were right, they play Gilla Monster and it did infact kick ass, nothing but a huge moshpit - was a great song to end on every loved it, one of the greatest gigs I think I will ever attend, calling it now... There's a reason my drummer happily drives up and down the country to every one of their shows when they play live, cause they never play the same set twice.
Yeah live is something else, it's a hell of a party. One minute it's smooth jazz, the next disco boogie, then psych rock then thrash... microtonal etc. You would think that's dumb but they make it work and i never seen such a cool vibe.
If this band wanted to be the next Grateful Dead, they could do it. If they wanted to be the next Yes/Gentle Giant/King Crimson, they could do it. They could even be the next Cannibal Corpse. I just *love* that they don't feel the need to be one thing.
@@helenespaulding7562 They’re definitely much more driven than Pink Floyd, but they have a good crop of more vibey songs. My favorite song they’ve ever done is called “The Wheel” and I think most Pink Floyd fans would love it. Some other great ones are Sleep Drifter, A Journey To (S)Hell/Rolling Stoned, Acarine, Oddlife, Static Electricity, Ambergris, Hypertension, Exploding Suns, and basically the entire Polygondwanaland album (their 70’s prog album)
You look great Justin! So lovely. Lovely setting too. Havent had any time to sit down and do anything (music endeavors are demanding!) but I always make sure to come here and hit that like button. Much love to you and your band Mr. Hawkins ❤
I think if you're looking to appreciate the Gizz from a songwriting point of view you should give "Paper Mache Dream Balloon" a listen - beautiful acoustic ballads and flute arrangements
These guys are amazing. I just saw them in Boston calling the fortunately they played for less than an hour and a half I guess I need to fly the red rocks and see them do a proper run of shells, especially because their catalog go so deep you gotta see them for hours and hours multiple days in a row
Hmm, I guess it’s different, but I prefer more melodic metal (Dio, Megadeth, etc.). Are you staying with Wolf? I’ve been hoping for a WVH interview from you.
King Gizz is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get. This song didn't work for me at all, but it's interesting that they can explore a range of sounds.
Glad you discovered these guys. They are my absolute favorite living musicians. Every time they release an album, Im already anticipating the next one. -Pie
Can I just get a 10 hour loop of you pronouncing King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard?? I feel like I've been saying it like a farmer from Kentucky this whole time by comparison 😂🙌
They all use Microtonal guitars and that is why they seem to be hitting more notes and I believe the scale length on them can go up to 29”. The Dripping Tap, Sleep Drifter, Dragon and Iron Lung are standouts if you haven’t checked those tunes out yet.
They use 6 string guitars with c# standard tuning for a lot of songs (like all of infest the rat's nest). They use drop b for this song and Gaia. I sound like trash when I play with strings that floppy.
PetroDragon🐉🤺Apocalypse, released June 16th. I recommend you listen to that whole album especially Motor Spirit. A true modern masterpiece dealing with our devolving times, the most relevant and brave album fired💣 in many a moon 🌚 The boys are fighting for us with all the love they can muster up up.💛
HAVE YOUR GUITAR TECH rewire a Strat styled guitar to: first position middle pickup, 2nd position middle & bridge PUs, 3rd position bridge PU, 4th position bridge & neck PUs & 5th position neck PU. Having the bridge & neck PUs going at the same time has a unique hi & lo tone from the single coil PUs.
I had never heard of King Gizzard, my boss turned me on to them. I was blown away once i started diving into their catalog... Very talented group of musicians... The band is underrated, and should be more known than they are.... I give em a f*****g 10
There's clips of this song absolutely killing it live in The Caverns. I'm so fucking excited for their new album, fantasy rock Gizz is my favourite type of Gizz
Love your videos, and I love this band. Justin, can you pleeease use your international superstardom to get Rick Beato onto these guys? They would blow his mind, I'm sure. Keep the great vids coming!
lyrically and in the video, the song is a back and forth between a story teller(?) and the gila monster itself, with the remaining four band members in the video playing a sort of wiccan role in summoning the gila monster. i’m sure i’m not entirely correct, but that’s the just as far as i know
Excellent! Love a bit of King Gizzard, they’re mental! In the best way of course! But the real question, Justin, is what do you think of Busted releasing a cover of MmmBop with Hanson? I need to see you react to that! Pretty please! 😁🙏🏻🥰
I'm interested to hear your take on the band Sleep. You could really pick just about any of their songs, they're all very similar but excellent listens, none the less.
