@@Alastor.625 “when i’m done your status quo will know it’s rain has run, oh this will be fun”😈 (I’m not gonna lie I got goosebumps watching this part😄)
I used to hate the mimzy part of hells greatest dad but then I thought about it- the song is basically a battle between lucifer and alastor traditionally it would have to calm down and resolve with one winning, her crashing in means that the song can end with high energy with the two to distracted to continue on with the fight
Personally I still don't like it, moreso from a cast perspective. The cast is already super bloated and throwing Mimsy in there feels super fan servicey to old fans of the show. Which I mean there's nothing terribly wrong with that but the fact that there is already a huge cast and so much going on within an 8 episode season just feels like her being there was super unnecessary. Instead of Mimsy being there, Charlie or another character could've broken up the song fight once it got too out of hand to give more time for Lucifer to shine rather than some one off character
@@fionna_cool_girl but then how would you get to the conflict later? Mimzy isn't just randomly there and leaves, she is the reason for the loansharks to come attack the hotel, which leads to the conflict between Lucifer and Charlie, which again leads to them opening up to eachother through "more than anything".
As someone who doesn’t watch the show, but has seen some out of context clips and listened to the ost, I feel like Charlie would have tried to break up the fight, realizing it is, well, a fight. But I’m not greatly experienced.
One of my favorite things about "Stayed Gone" is how good the song shows the extreme contrast between Vox and Alastor. The first time I listened to the song, Vox's singing is so fast paced, energetic but also hard to understand at first. I had to look up the lyrics to get what Vox was saying at first. The song is also fast, quick paced and upbeat. However once it gets to Alastor's part, the song slows down, the music becomes a lower pitch, Alastor sings his lyrics very slowly to where you're hanging on every word he says and you understand completely what he says. Alastor knows he's not going anywhere despite being slow because he knows his power is much more terrifying than Vox could ever imagine but he can't see it because the power except for Alastor's radio is out. It's SUCH good story telling on who these characters are and their rivalry
Great vid. Shoutout to the fandom wiki for this but the tattoo on Mimzy's back is a cerise Mammon tattoo. It's the same logo shown on the many T-shirts worn by Fizzarolli and other Imps during the events of the Helluva Boss episode, "MAMMON'S MAGNIFICENT MUSICAL MID-SEASON SPECIAL (ft Fizzarolli)".
Someone said that cannibal town looks old timey bc back then they used to eat mummys for medicinal reasons. Another two reasons i could think of is, during certain times of depression or catastrophic events some people needed to resort to cannibalism to survive and one less intense reason is Rosie seems to own the most popular shop and she likes that fashion, so she might exclusively sell those items and the people just went with it, maybe to appease this overlord sksk
The actor who plays Lucifer is named Jeremy Jordan. He is a Broadway star and TV actor. Most people probably know him from the CW Supergirl show. He played Winn Schott in the show. And the one who plays St Peter in the Welcome to Heaven song is Darren Criss, who plays Blaine in Glee. Just a little fun fact, that last one Edit: Also another fun fact, the actor who plays Alastor, Amir Talai, played Crane in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness :)
If you love Lucifer's singing voice, you should listen to 3 songs called "Ready as I'll ever be" and "Nothing left to lose" and "Let Me Make You Proud" from "Tangled: The Series" because his VA sings for all those songs and his singing voice is AMAZING just like in Hazbin Hotel. THANK YOU for ranking "More Than Anything" in the highest tier. It's SO underrated
I really enjoy all the people analyzing the different aspects of the show and it's amazing how much food for that there is in just eight episodes. It's been quite a long time since i've enjoyed a piece of art that much and it's nice to see other people enjoying it as well.
I'm taking a minute to appreciate that someone else also acknowledges how amazingly executed was that "It's not fair, Sera" moment Charlie had, one of my favorites from the show
I think “respectless” is very much not out of place, it makes perfect sense there because of the musical theater rule of “if your emotions are too much to speak, you start singing, if your emotions are too much to sing, you start dancing” Velvette clearly hit a nerve when she talked to zestiel like that, so Carmella needed to sing at her to get her emotions out
I personally think it took Alastor that long to return to Charlie and the Hotel isn't because his deal binds him to the Hotel, but simply because recovering from his wounds from Adam took that long.
Honestly can really argue with any of your choices. Good list and good points that I hadn’t thought about. I didn’t catch all the little details about velvet and now have more appreciation for her character
@@rustyanubis1650yeah! While i tend to have most/whole attention on the video, sometimes I just have videos (long or short) in the corner/on my phone while drawing/reading/playing/working on something that doesnt need 100% undivided focus so i can watch or get through them.
man this was such a chill video, i had so much fun listening to your commentary about each song! im soooooo glad they focused on casting singing > acting (though the voice acting is, ofc, amazing)- when i found out half of the characters were voiced by broadway stars / notable singers it made me love the show even more :D
Ok thank you for connecting “Out for Love” and “Do it for Him” i was always wondering why they would play after one another in my head and i thought i was crazy.
Woah, your presentation skills are pretty goddamn impressive. Not to mention the fact that you actually took time to actually thoroughly analyze the songs and stuff. 10/10 video easiest sub of my life.
1:05:13 Vee: In a Vee relationship, one person (the hinge) is involved with two other people (the arms) who are not romantically or sexually involved with each other. The hinge forms the center of the Vee, connecting both arms. (The center is properly Vox) So the Vees is a play on their names and relationship lmao
An awesome video! Glad that somebody else appreciates the moans in Welcome to Heaven lmao Edit: Also I love your analysis of Respectless. It is definitely one of the stronger songs of the series
Yes you are that entertaining lmao. I agree with a lot of that playlist, though I'd bump down Stayed Gone a tier and put Finale a tier up. And It Starts With Sorry also really grew on me, especially woth the line "It'll take time to cover my/your vast multitude of sins." cuz both the music and singers are amazing in that part. More Than Anything winning is great, because that's exactly what I would pick. No other HH song gave me these feels, I always at least get goosebumps or tear up. I love it to bits. It's also got a lot of story/character inside the lyrics and performances shown AND sung. To me, it's a perfect musical song for the show. And it made Lucifer into my favourite character (like man, I got 500 fanarts liked on Twittwr and I wager 70% feature Lucifer there lol). I first heard More Than Anything from a leak on YT a few hours before Ep5 airing and immediately was enchanted by it, I replayed it so goddamn much. I even imagined how it would look animated and I am glad to say I got most of it right lol. It's just incredible. I really wonder what bangers are being prepared for S2.
Alastor definitely came back nearly immediately. His radio tower is in the top of the hotel, when he retreated he went back to his tower to draw power and heal, whilst the rest of the crew finished Adam and made the Exorcists retreat. All of the battle and repairing the hotel took place in the span of a day or two. We know this because of Lucifer telling us that it's "remedial Creation for me" and that the rest were able to finish with 'a little sorcery". They finished super quick with Lucifer's help. What I REALLY wanna know is why didn't Husker bolt when Alastor "died"? Everyone thought Al died, hell even he thought he was going to, Husker didn't HAVE to stay when the hotel got demolished but he chose to. Because he grew to love the crew and is liking Anthony now, Nifty loves Alastor and would want to continue his wishes at the hotel though. As for Valentino and Vox, yeah, they are together. They are down and dirty. Funny thing is that Vox asked Alastor to be his partner, as we heard in their duet. Alastor was using a double entendre there though, he meant business partner but also a sexual partner. Not only is Alastor asexual but he also didn't need help gaining power. THAT"S why Vox hates him so much, because he laughed off his sexual advances and considered him lesser.
Loving this vid! Just to give some more Vox VO love in the comments: portrayed by Christian Borle, a Broadway icon! He just closed Some Like It Hot, but he’s done many, many shows (Legally Blonde, Falsettos, TMM, etc). Vox kinda gives me vibes on an unhinged version of Shakespeare that he debuted in Something Rotten in 2015.
Loser, Baby is what introduced me to Hazbin Hotel. It appeared on my discover weekly and I played it over and over again until I learned where it was from. 9/10 song for me
Something that gripes me about Whatever it Takes, Vaggies voice actor is Stephanie Beatriz. She's an alto and also an amazing belter. I don't understand why they gave her a super high part whenever thats not her natural voice range. They really did Vaggie dirty. Also, Lucifers voice actor is Jeremy Jordan and Charlie's is Erika Henningson. They are seasoned broadway actors and both are amazing.
Although I appreciate the high ranking for Stayed Gone (Alastor's solo at the end is just amazing) -- I am surprised you didn't put Hell's Greatest Dad on the same tier. It's extremely good and I'd only rank Stayed Gone higher than it because of how well they did making Alastor's threat at the end legitimately scary.
12:22 What you're asking, that is a moon Each of the different Rings of hell have their own sky with different themes or colors Pentagram City which is where Hazbin Hotel takes place is the Pride Ring where Sinners reside
Poison is my favorite for sure for the pure symbolism and lyric delivery, and the music instrumental is the best in the show. I swear to God, the amount of depth it adds to Angel Dust's character is insane. It is an absolutely perfect song.
Didn’t even notice the video was an hour long, felt like 20 min, Amazing job. And you cooked ! Albeit I disagree on some choices, (like you didn’t know) I think it’s nice that someone finally talks about how good respectless is and how much it advances the plot. Most underappreciated song in the show.
For some of the music questions: You’re exactly right about the reason for Vaggie going up an octave, it prevented her and Carmine from crossing melodies, which would have changed the vibe of the song massively The baseline in “Loser, Baby” I’m fairly certain is a baritone saxophone
On a world-building note, my interpretation of Cannibal Town was that because the town’s economy was so localized, everything they got was from inside their little corner, the town never really progressed culturally, especially in terms of artistic tastes As for Val and Vox, they’re confirmed to be effectively friends with benefits
dude this was such a chill video and i was screaming everytime you pointed out something that i absolute adore, especially with more than anything being my favourite song as well, love love love
I love Loser Baby because it doesnt try to deny the fact that sometimes we just are losers. And the song affirming it and accepting it happily instead of twisting it into “you’re not a loser :( “
Vox may have a lot of different shows and media but as Alastor points out that’s because he’s compensating as he needs to keep his viewers attention through over exposure and constantly changing the format. Alastor on the other hand, gets more attention with just one radio show and has the real power!
Does anyone even watch his radio show aside from sometimes listen to him talk a little a bit through the speakers around hell like it's pretty obvious Vox has control of pretty much everyone who looks at TVs I don't think anyone watches his radio shows like he's so strong he has all the power in the rain itself and when he gets angry he can shut the entire thing down that's quite a lot of power as well.
@@Automaton2337 With regards to radio the word used is usually “listen” not “watch” and they might not have as much as a choice Vox can make people watch him through over saturation and manipulation and then control him once they do but he technically still get his power from his viewers watching or “support” as Alastor put it. Alastor might actually be able to make people listen to his broadcasts by more direct force rather than having to have so much varied content his audience may not actually have a choice
@@happypasta6 the only time people actually listen to his radio is when he kills someone and makes there screams go through it. He probably doesn't use the radio for any other means of entertainment to get power has he seems to be busy with the hotel and doesn't get his chances to use it but maybe he plays old timey music sometimes.
I agree with just about the whole list except "whatever it takes". Id bump it up 1 tier to B strictly because Carmine's vocals are just a vibe and she nails the flow. Beyond that, i agree with how much exposition it throws out. If it didnt have the exposition-y feel, i think it would be higher for me too
Absolutely love the vid, love your reactions and each time you sing along (YOU'VE GOT IT TWISTEDDD). Really expected you to say something about Carmine walking on the beat in "Out for Love" though!
Thank you so much!! Yea I thought it and the words didn't come out lmao. Got distracted by her sassy walk. I think I mentioned the great editing with the punch in zooms on beat.
i’ve been obsessed with this show since i finished it a couple days ago, so don’t mind me listing actors bc (at least for me) there’s a lot of familiar voices -charlie = erika henningsen, she was the og cady heron in the mean girls musical, highly recommend listening to “stupid with love” she kills that song -vaggie = stephanie beatriz, she was mirabel in encanto and was on b99 -husk = keith david, he’s done a bunch of stuff but i know him from community lol -vox = christian borle, he’s been in a TON of broadway musicals like falsettos, something rotten, willy wonka, legally blonde and probably more im forgetting -st peter (angel who sings “welcome to heaven”) = darren criss, most people know him from glee, i also know him from a very potter musical -lucifer = jeremy jordan, he was the og jack kelly in the newsies musical and he’s done a lot of voice acting besides, also has a band called age of madness -sir pentious/adam = alex brightman, he was the og beetlejuice in the broadway musical, he’s also did fizz’s voice in helluva boss -katie killjoy = brandon rogers, he’s a youtuber and voices blitzo in helluva boss -velvette = lilli cooper, she was the og sandy in spongebob the musical that’s all i’ve got, i’m a theater kid if you couldn’t tell 💀 so i thought i would share where i know people from!
You also missed the part that Husker was having to "teach" Anthony how to dance and lead him at the beginning of the song because he was so reserved and then by the end Anthony CHOSE to dance with him and just followed Husker's lead without having to have his hand held. Very important detail.
I agree with this list 😊 One another note: the ppl in Cannibal Town may look that way because of the Roaring 20s era. After the stock market crashed, ppl had to resort to many despicable means to survive, which may have caused men, women, AND children to do some things; maybe some of them being victims of it themselves. 😮 The 1930s was a tough time.
Im kinda with Ayo Lamo ( if you know him) on You Didn’t Know imo that whole song could’ve just been said not sung More Than Anything reprise was SO short, I’m not complaining I’m actually fine with it being this short but really that was surprising
such a good video, going into what you like the most about each song. i love to see the passion, because most ive seen of this show is negativity until very recently and i love to see it. good rankings as well :D
GREAT VID!!! I watched the whole ting, and really enjoyed it. I would love to see you rank all of the hazbin hotel characters or something!! really loved hearing your opinion about Velvette
On the timeline for rebuilding the hotel, we see everyone in their ‘normal’ attire instead of their battle attire by the end of the song. So it’s implied time passed.
i love your commentary, its actually amazing, you have great and very agreeable veiws and hearing you Analize stuff other people would skip over is just so refreshhing
@@tooawkwrd AAH, i got a reply! no but seriously, im surprised you dont have more subscribers, even though that stuff doesnt matter too much id love to see your channel grow because your videos are such high quality and actually entertaining. you deserve more recognition
There’s a main channel with more subscribers. This normally is the low key channel. I’ve got some more Hazbin content going up over there soon. ru-vid.com

For someone who has 948 subs, I thought it was WAY more before I looked at the sub count. Awesome video, your opinions are completely balanced, and I love it.
Appreciate that, welcome aboard. I actually have a main channel called Awkwardly Animated with more subs. I only recently created this channel last year for funsies.
This video is so goodddd!! I love seeing someone so passionate about the songs I'm passionate about over a bland ranking list, I love how into it u are!! I agree with like 95% of this and YES You Didn't Know IS PEAKKKK the theatre kid in me was screaming
You made a really good point about Velvette. A lot of people think she's stupid but she saw through Carmilla before anyone else. She showed in Respectless that she is observant, good at reading people and has the intelligence to put the puzzle pieces together to figure out most of the story. She's reckless and impulsive, yes, but not dumb. I look forward to seeing more of her next season. Also, the fire reflecting in Sera's eyes? Peak animation! It shows that while Sera believes she was in the right, her actions still weren't. I loved Carmilla with her hair down too, awesome design. I actually didn't like Poison, Respectless or Stayed Gone after my first listen but upon going back to them, they've grown to be some of my favourites from the series :) Solid list: I'd put Respectless A tier, Whatever It Takes D tier, Poison top tier, Out For Love C tier, Ready For This top tier, and switch It Starts With Story and Happy Day in Hell around. Rest I agree with your rankings. More Than Anything is my favourite from the entire series :)
I watched A LOT of hazbin hotel songs reacts but i think yours is favourite cuz u talk about it not just putting songs in tier list(sorry if i posted it twice:3)
I loved this ranking! Just became a subscriber! I just gotta tell you every time you praised some of my favorite Broadway actors, I wanted to mention the one's you didn't know their names to! Vox is one of my favorites and he is voiced by Christian Borle! As for Lucifer he is voiced by Jeremy Jordan who is also one of my favs! Charlie is voiced by Erika Henningson, and she is just incredible! Additionally, Velvet is voiced by Lilli Cooper who has such gorgeous vocals and I adore her! As a Theatre kid at heart, I could ramble on and on about this talented array of people! I wanted to share this knowledge haha and hope this was helpful for you! Keep up the fun content :)
Omg please do haha. Let me ask as I’m very big into musicals but a lot of the broadway stuff has pass me by. I’m more knowledgeable on film adaptations like west side story, la la land, tick, tick, boom, etc. How would I go about getting into broadway stuff? Like I want to but I feel like I would have to literally go to the theaters and see it in person. Is there any alternative because I would love to see more of their work.
What I particularly love in “You Didn't Know” is the way Charlie and Emily parallel the way they sing Sera's name to address her in the song - it's so good!!! In “Stayed Gone” I love the pose Vox does when he sings ‘the demon is a coward’ and his whole segment afterwards which you also mentioned to love. The team is seriously amazing!!!
12:28 i haven’t seen anyone answering or throwing theories. Now I could be wrong but I think that circle in the sky next to heaven could be purgatory. Where souls go to be judged before they are determined to either go to heaven or hell. I’m not big on religion, but I’m just saying what I heard. I could be wrong but that’s my opinion on what that could be of. If not then I guess we won’t know until later on, maybe. Also I absolutely love your reviews and views, it’s nice to see someone actually analyzing the songs and the characters, keep it up!
More Than Anything also used to be my favorite song cause the emotional impact it left on me was so great, but after listening to the soundtrack repeatedly over the course of last week, my favorites drastically changed 😂 Some songs are amazing and leave a great impact when you first hear them, but some songs are just more replayable and catchy. My top 3 now is 1) Hell is Forever 2) Respectless 3) Poison
Finally someone who agrees with me about liking More Than Anything (which is also my favorite song) more than Hell's Greatest Dad (Its still an amazing song though, even the Mimzy part). I don't really have the Daddy issues, but the whole making your parent proud/trying to be like them despite their flaws (as no one is perfect) hits hard and I can really relate to Lucifer's whole story of a "dreamer" falling into depression after being rejected by their peers (Lucifer has usurped Alastor as my favorite character due to sheer relatability). I also really liked the more soft and tender character animation with my favorite part being the immediate shift in Lucifer's expression from crushing despair and resignation when the spears were pointing at him to the sheer look of utter terror when they shifted towards Charlie, with him not even hesitating to use his own body to shield his daughter from them (I can only hope that this isn't foreshadowing).
We practically agree in most songs you’ve got amazing taste and I liked how you explained it lol very entertaining. Hopefully you do another video like this for the next season or for like its spin off show helluva boss. Id definitely watch those too lol and many others would too
About Vox and Valentino! You can actually see some of Val's poison/saliva in Vox's mouth at the end of the song Poison, when he appears for a second talking with Val. This likely means he went to tell him something and kissed while they were at it. I think it is confirmed they are nothing serious like a couple, but they do enjoy each other's... company..
The comparison of Out for Love to Do it for Him/Stronger Than You is a late realization for me, like oh yeah that made sense. I do think the songs alone fits in context of their respective characters, Pearl being a veterant that wants to sell a calculative yet self annihilating heroism, Garnet being a unit of a couple that completes each other on an equilibrium, and Carmine as a mentor who sees the urgency but put caution on balance between doing everything for your beloved and yet make sure you can survive long to continue serving the cause of your beloved. That said, I also think Do It for Her and Stronger than You have had episodes of build up to make the characters felt intimate to the point of these songs. I don't expect Carmine to be this quick to help Vaggie especially considering she never met her before, and as far as she knows she still have marks of the group that endangered her daughters. The only connection of these two characters have was a duet music video in which they haven't even met each other. Which is a shame because I really like Out for Love as a song alone, but it do felt weak from the lack of build up.
1:03:08 THANK YOU. From first watch, I interpreted a time jump (it’s a song, it happens and the format of this song lends to that a lot). And then I watched another video saying “I don’t like how they just built the hotel in 4 minutes” and I’m like “they didn’t… 🤨”
1:07:27 Idk lol. It was fun seeing your take😆😄 It was fun. Yeah this show has many bangers. More than anything is my favourite. Amazing vocals, Storytelling and emotional beats edit: (don't think my time stap worked)
I love that when only the pilot came out, people were like, "It's so childish, it's an 18+ show, and it doesn't have complicated themes only blood and sex jokes" and when the show aired, people started saying, "Why aren't all angels pure good and can swear, and why aren't all demons pure evil?"
Just wanted to point out that the powerful part of You Didn't Know was also a retooling of the chorus of Hell is Forever, since you said that you like reprises and retoolings, and I didn't pick up on it until someone else pointed it out to me.
EDIT: YOU GUYS GOT IT TO 100K!!!! @@tooawkwrd i think adam is more petty and heartbroken and angry at lucifer so he probably doesnt give a crap about his did is understandable not saying it an excuse for him to act the way he did tho
I'm not even halfway through this video and you're already just so valid (I'll see if I change my mind later LOL). But I'm gonna fangirl a bit in the comments here because it's just so nice to see someone else excited about this show and the songs without being weird about it. So I apologize in advance. I really like your analysis of Respectless. I mean it's a banger from the start, but you're right, I didn't notice how it gives you those hints at Velvette's character right from the beginning. While I don't categorize her as one of my faves (yet), I definitely want to know more about her. I have the exact same issue with Vaggie's song here. This isn't a fave song of mine to begin with, but her singing voice being so different was just so jarring to me that I really couldn't focus on anything other than that. She sings beautifully, but youre right, it's doesn't really sound like the character. Gosh episode 4 really just came out SWINGING with the songs. Both S tier for me, pack it up boys we're done here. (Except we're not, we still have like a billion more good songs to go lol). I STG, Hells Greatest Dad....for some reason the one line where he says "Usually I charge a sacrificial lamb, but you get the FAMILY rate (thanks Dad!!)" gets stuck in my head alllllllll of the time. But it's just a good soooonnngggg. It's also wild to me how many nods they have to the pilot episode in this song, aside from just the coloring/outfit. Some of the dance moves are pretty much the same too, and I think that's fun. Also I laugh out loud every single time Lucifer pulls out the fiddle lol. I don't care for Welcome to Heaven personally, just not my favorite style of song. But they all sound good and I love Emily with my whole heart. You Didn't Know....They just went all in. Every single part of this song is great. The visuals are amazing. I die every time. Man so many people misunderstand the point of this show, it's insane. This show has flaws, sure, but I just don't think people (*cough*twitter*cough*) actually take the time to dig deeper than surface level. so THANK YOU. The cursing point is always funny to me too because I don't think anywhere it's really stated that cursing is a sin...Just taking the lords name in vain which honestly I don't think we hear that at all from any of the characters? But that's whatever I just think it's funny. You know, it took a moment for Out For Love to really grow on me, and I wasn't really sure why until you said it's too short. I think you're, right. I think it needed just a liiiiiiiiittle more to build up to that end and it would have hit the nail on the head. Okay so the reprise of More Than Anything is funny because when I first heard it, it had been a little while since I watched the other episodes and I thought to myself....why does this song sound familiar?? Well duh Shana because it's a reprise. 😑sigh. The Finale is solid. I enjoy when the ensamble gets together, it gave it a good note to end on. Long video, enjoyed it, A+.
