What I love bout Loser Baby is that it was -exactly- what Angel needed to hear. He was totally ready to resist the "Ooooh, you're not so bad!" type toxic positivity that Charlie would've given him. Husk coming in with "Yup, you're a loser. You're right!" just completely threw him off his defense and made him more receptive to the "But you're not in this alone" messaging

The thing with Stayed Gone switching gears at the start, is that it's meant to show that although Vox wants to keep up the facade of being in control, setting new status quo, being calm and collected, actually he's totally insecure and actually terrified of Alastor coming back. He's probably the only Overlord who actually gives a shit about Alastor coming back, if you ask me.

So the actress who voices Lute (the character singing the banger section in You Don’t Know) is Jessica Vosk, who is known as one of the best Elphaba’s on Broadway. Like, she’s considered just as good if not better than Idina Menzel, so she was going to blow away the part for Lute no matter what. Honestly, I’m shocked at how stacked the cast for Hazbin Hotel is, because it’s full of extremely talented and well respected Broadway actors, Internet personalities, and well known screen actors. It’s an insane cast list, and they absolutely deserve all the praise they’ve been getting for their performances.

Addict does have a part where Anthony (Angel's true self) comes out. It's in the end credit scene of the video and is a lot more hopeful than poison.

My top three are as follows. 1st: Poison 2nd: More than Anything (I’ll explain) 3rd: Loser Baby More than anything in my mind has the best representation of vocal technicality from Jeremy Jordan specifically. His tone immediately draws you in and that switch from chest voice to head voice in “I’ll shelter and adore…” is just utter perfection. Vibrato is always on point while still containing that storytelling quality in his voice when performing. I’m also a sucker for emotional ballads, and this duet just absolutely made me melt. It’s genuinely a toss up between this and poison depending on the mood I’m in.

I don't understand how people can think this is glorifying it when it's just an accurate portrayal of abuse, both sexual and non-sexual. As a victim of abuse, this really hit me. We all know he's been r@ped before because he says, "Do you really think I can't tell when someone puts something in my drink?" AND, for the record, silence/uninformed compliance is not a yes; Angel just thinks he's too broken to be worth anything else (been there done that, can confirm it's a very real thing). "The abusers wouldn't be an abusers if they weren't highly charismatic and great at manipulation". THAT PART. Also, Angel needing rehab for more than just the drugs but also from Val and his contributions to Angel's addictions.

To be fair Velvette's (the "monster high" character) lyrics and speech patterns are probably supposed to be reminiscent of the era she died like a lot of the other characters, but we don't consider that as much cuz its a more recent era. I just wanted to chime in and say that your take on the abusive relationship is 95% correct. The only thing I would add is that abuse victims make mistakes as well. It's not just the manipulation from the abuser making them do dumb sh*t, victims are people too and therefore f*ck up like the rest of us. What I like about the portrayal of Angel is that it shows him acting like a multifaceted person, rather than the typical "victim who can do no wrong" portrayal that we usually get.

The thing about Addict is, it's a fansong. It, along with another song called Just Look My Way, were made canon via the animations Spindlehorse made for them.

I saw a long while back that you had *Fruits* *Basket* *(2019)* on one of your polls. Even though it doesn't have much action (most sucker punches are verbal/auditory), it's one of my absolute favorite anime and the definitive way to experience Fruits Basket's story. I think you'd really enjoy it since you're great at picking up on a story happening within the deeper/surface-level story (based on your Madoka and Hazbin analyses). Its atmosphere is strong, the art is beautiful, it has good humor, and the stunning music (while only OST and no musical numbers) is so intrinsically tied to the characters' emotions that certain tracks make me tear up or feel a little strike of fear from the first few notes. Fruits Basket 2019 is definitely worth the watch. I'd love to see what theories you'd come up with while watching. Oh, for a shorter reaction (a one season, 24-episode story), I recommend *Shirobako.* It's about a young woman and her friends navigating the anime industry with each friend trying hard to find success in their own field of interest (voice acting, 3D animation, writing, etc.). Shirobako is a great little anime with good humor and dips into some very realistic existential dread that every person in their 20s ends up feeling, and it's fascinating to see this side of the animation industry shown step by step--it gave me a new appreciation for the art. All that said, Shirobako is uplifting all the way through.

i totally agree with you on the middle part of Stayed Gone! I'm a musician and i mostly do musical theatre and what bugs me the most is that Vox and the music aren't in time (on time? in rhythem? i might be a musician, but i'm a german one, so forgive me if the wording is a bit of here and there) most of the time. It feels like the song can't decide if it wants to be a patter song (like eg "modern major general" from pirates of penzance, "getting married today" from company etc), which means the lyrics would have to be in time with the music, or if it wants to have a talking section, which means it wouldn't be on time. Right now it's kind of a mix of some lines that are in time and some that aren't, same with the rhyming pattern. It makes me a bit sad because i usually love it when songs do one of these things and i think the music is super fun, i think some of the lines are really clever and i really like the singing part they have in the middle, but the rhythim thing really bugs me.

A lot of fans are theorizing that the part of poison where angel starts to "cry-sing" that it's no longer Angel dust singing, but that's the moment where we see his mask slip and we hear Anthony take over for a moment

I adore 'Stayed Gone' purely for the insanely smart lycrics. 1) "Look like his medium is getting bloody rare" aka more explicitly meant to be read as 'his medium of show (radio) is getting bloody rare (not mainstream, taken over by video/Vox)', but it is ALSO a pun about meat/steak being 'bloody rare', which is a fun joke to make about a cannibal who adores bloody rare stuff; both meat-wise and medium-wise 2) "(...) we're discussing a certain has-been who has been spotted (...)" aka has-been as in fell-off and has been as in... has been seen, but ALSO has been as in sounds like Hazbin 3) "You're looking at the future, he's the (...)" aka looking at the future as in Vox is the future but also looking at the future as in Vox is the only one with visuals, so by definition you can only /look/ at the future with him i think it's just full of clever lycrics like that, which makes it so much more fun to listen to!

I just wanna say, thank you for bringing up the discourse about poison. So many reactors either pretend nothing was happening or that the controversies are just excuses to hate on Viv. Thank you for actually talking about it upfront and giving your input instead of weaseling around it. People have issues with Viv for a lot of reasons that i won’t get into but i will say as a victim myself, I don’t think they went about this wrong at all. I mean, the character attributes such as being in Hell and the powers Overlords have also add to the story and how their dynamic is portrayed and I feel the people that have an issue with this don’t really take that into consideration when talking about it. At least from what I’ve seen anyways. In fact most of the people i saw upset about this never watched the show and went based off the poison song and scenes alone.

An abuser will make the person feel great for the beginning of the relationship, and occasionally during the relationship. A victim may not even realise that is how they are being reeled in by their abuser. And then the abuse starts, but at that point the victim is convinced there are good reasons/ good attributes of their abuser that make the relationship worth being a part of. And then it continues, with occasional moments from the abuser where they remind the victim of the “good times”. This keeps them in the relationship for longer and longer

i think its interesting you put the opening and finale songs together, because of how the finale's last lyric ends with the opening song "tomorrow it'll be a fuckin Happy Day In Hell" like a little end-to-begining wheel is always turning kind of reference.

I love Stayed Gone, the tv show bit is great characterisation for Vox and his gripe with Alastor but it works best with all the visual gags that go along with the lyrics.
