On a certain level I agree, but I think it'd be giving Hubert's ego too much credit to attribute the entirety of that to his intent. While he is definitely aware of how most others view him, I think it's fairer to say that the majority of his behavior is simply what he considers natural, and conversations like his supports with Bernie (where he does clearly lean into it for theatricality's sake) are the exception rather than the rule. But that's merely my take on the character, I suppose.

I mean that’s also true for Robbie Daymond, Hubert’s voice actor. Want proof? This is the same guy as Prompto Argentum, the pure ray of sunshine from Final Fantasy XV.

Perhaps not all the time, but with some characters, like for instance, with Bernie, it’s pretty clear he does have a sense of humor in seeing peoples reactions behind his behavior.

Considering Hubert is laughing alongside her I interpreted the entire conversation to be some sort of inside joke; i.e everyone else thinking Hubert is head-over-heels in love with Edelgard so he's just playing along Honestly I have no earthly clue what motivates Hubert. He displays the signs of an obsessive stalker with Edelgard (he literally hides in her bedroom during one of Byleth's supports), but he doesn't show any sort of jealousy when others interact positively with Edelgard, else he would have murdered Byleth after his C-support. You can also pair him with multiple other characters without any sort of extra effort, which means he's open to outside romance options. On top of that, he just laughs people off when they tell him he's in love with Edelgard, and his feelings aren't hurt in the slightest when Edelgard herself laughs at his "confession". None of these are indicative of being a stalker or even having strong unrequited romantic feelings for someone Closest thing I can compare it to is a sibling bond I guess

@@nightshed3693 while It’s fine to have that idea, I don’t really think that’s it. Let’s take for example, each scenario. With Ferdinand, this is an interaction with an individual who he previously saw as a lost cause, and has begrudgingly began to trust, after supposedly months of disagreement, and buys him a gift as a form of compensation for their earlier fall outs. That said, it is still quite an awkward scenario, especially since he didn’t intend to give the bag to Ferdinand personally, and as well didn’t expect a gift in return. That’s more of a socially awkward moment than any sense of “oh boi he be the gae” With Byleth, this only occurs with F!Byleth, and again, it’s due to the social awkwardness of being proposed. He also blushes if you stare at him during tea time. None of these support romantic flusteredness, save the proposal- and it’s more so the simple fact that Hubert is not a very social man, and isn’t quite familiar with emotions regarding most instances of bonding or companionship. As well, he literally declares his feelings for Edelgard.

Probably why he wanted to keep it a secret.

I like how they leave a lot of the A supports open to interpretation. Like, outside of the ones where they just straight up say "let's become family" you can take things different ways. It makes 100% sense that Hubert is in love with Edelgard, so you could say he was serious. But you could also say that in that moment he was legitimately making a joke he knew Edelgard would find amusing. If you want to pair them together, the first interpretation makes more sense. If you're a weirdo like me and you marry Hubert, the second interpretation makes more sense.

Just a little blunt. But I fell hard for him as soon as I set eyes on him.

Its pretty clear his whole schtick is "absolute loyalty to Edelgard" and "cold analysis and blunt to the point of insult"

What I like about Hubert is his bluntness. Sure he starts by saying that he doesn't like you and is considering to murder you, but that is because he sees you as a threat to Edelgard and even then he tells you as a warning, and then the relationship goes full circle, with him setting his trust in you and he's even willing to protect you.

Persenn he isnt evil. he just puts edel on a major pedestal. guy can be cold but he gives credit where it is due and isnt afraid to put things bluntly.

I mean he's tecnically one of the older students. While everyone is roughly in their 15s-17s, Hubert's 20 already. So by when the timeskip occurs he's 25. He acts older than the rest because he IS older

Definitely Linhardt, Ferdinand may be annoying to Hubert, but he's incredibly competent and works very hard. Linhardt on the other hand puts in no effort unless it either catches his interest, or would lead to less effort later on.
