The best part of JCal running the summit last year was Palmer Lucky destroying him on stage. Everything else is better when Friedberg is running the show.

That AI generated short, about AI, expressed more emotion that some humans are capable of. Soul stirring, but perhaps that’s because I know its creator was soulless.

I think what people miss is it won’t be that simple. Not much will change. There will still be 10% of the pop who create the content. All that changes is Creatives won’t need to get lucky or be born in certain countries. We don’t just keep watching variants of movies or listen to mash ups. The Idea is what will matter. As always. The Imagination Era will still be driven by minds that can shock with the sense of Familiar but New. That’s all an artist does. But it ain’t easy. Sure you can prompt a film. But will you watch it? Are the images you prompt your favorite art? One day we all will be able to build our own virtual worlds with stunning fidelity and fill them with autonomous agents that will populate the world and roleplay the narrative. But not everyone can build Westeros or Westworld. Not everyone can sit down and create the gameplay and story of The Last of Us. If you could build a world would anyone spend time in it? Do it now. It’s not easy. Why not get a glimpse of how deep the rabbit hole is and visit the world building community on Reddit? r/worldbuilding

You think 10% of the pop create the content today? lol, try 0.1% at most.

its not a conversation about story/art if it relies on the novelty of "made by ai" to make it worth talking about. the exciting part about ai in art and creativity is the possibility of tools that can accelerate a time consuming process for the artist (rotoscoping, motion tracking, transcription, model assistance, etc.). if one is in any way conscious of the fact that the media im consuming at the moment is crafted by mimicing a pattern (the topic of copyright and ethics aside), their interest will be predicated on something other than the art itself. IF generative "art" can actually get to the point where the end product is completely indistinguishable from thoughtful, intentional, and interpretively challenging human work (I'm skeptical of this, unless neural networks are able to do something more than essentially just pattern recognition based off a set of source material), then the situation is even more bleak. how ironic it would be if the novelty we chase in the future is that of media which ISNT constantly regurgitating someting it thinks we want down our throats. the correlation of entertainment (literally, holding my attention - WITHOUT relying on the novelty described above) and conscious intentionality is self-evident to me, and as such my litmus test for ai tools is that they preserve this intentionality transparently, that is, without tarnishing the product with traces of itself all over the place. the following is slightly out of context, but still relevant: "...I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself." -Hayao Miyazaki

we design:build physical artifacts and do graphic art. AI art always always has a tell that it’s AI. debased. nothing new here. let’s run along. “sam altman won’t tell you that chatGP4 has 220 billion parameters and is a 16-way mixed model with 8 sets of weights” - george hotz

The advancement of these AI filmaking is incredible, but come on I wouldn't watch this. Even though a small part in that decision is that I know it's AI, it still looks weird. And also the fact that I would need to know what LLM do they train on as to make sure the inspirations(AKA artists) they got from are being consented to be trained, which sadly is not discussed But hey, still cool to look at the tech
