I’ve been with Bank of America since I was 18-19 and I actually like them (don’t kill me yall 😂) never really ran into major issues with them. I like how they are convenient whenever I travel from state to state.

Lol I definitely agree with you! Aside from the savings account issues I had with them before, I've never had a problem!

Just opened a Marcus account through your referral link! You and Caleb Hammer are very convincing about how to properly use money that is sitting somewhere. Thank you for being awesome!

I have a capital one savings and checking and now you get a interest rate with them For both the savings and checking and I have credit cards with them too.

Great video. But your logic for opening up the Citi Savings didn't make sense. You opened it to get $150 and had to keep 20k in the savings for a minimum of 90 days. All that is is a glorified 3 month CD. Therefore that 3.85% + added 150 on 20k for 3 months is a 3 month annualized rate of 4.60%. Thats good but Marcus is offering a 5.05% 10 month CD. You get an extra 7 months and a higher yield. If you are still under FDIC threshold then better off opening a Marcus CD

I just used your Marcus link after watching this video & your Marcus video! I researched CIT and Ally banks but decided on Marcus for its simplicity and 'name.' Next step is researching Roth IRAs!

Haha, are we twins? I kept saying “same!” as I was watching this video, down to my first bank account being BofA, keeping my Chase account after getting a bonus bc it’s convenient to pay my Chase Freedom card, and hating credit unions! I also think personal finance is fun and think of it as a game! :)

I bank with Wells Fargo and I also don’t keep my money in there for long. I send my money where it needs to go the day that I get paid so it’s usually cleared within 2-3 days.

I love the way you are making this a fun game and making money from their special offers. I am following your lead. I have a Marcus Savings account but had read that they were having financial difficulties, so I began to transfer money out of it. I think I will start depositing money into the account again based on your positive experiences.

Hi Leila, I've been watching your videos and really enjoy them. I'm wondering when you open all those checking accounts do you get checks and what do you do them if you don't write out any. I'm old school so I'm trying to get youthful ideas.
@PersonalFinancewithLeila
@PersonalFinancewithLeila Год назад
I don't get any checks with them! I only ever got checks from Bank of America back in 2009 or and I still have them! I've had to use them a handful of times, but otherwise they just sit in my files 😊

I opened a WF cashback credit card for the $200 bonus and turns out you can only redeem the cashback in $25 increments. Not $25 minimum, but increments 😭😭 so now I have $11.09 in cashback rewards that I can’t redeem until I spend like $750 on the card
@PersonalFinancewithLeila

Yes same here!!! I have like $10 sitting there in rewards but yup same idea. Don't like that at all!

Hi Leila, thanks for your content, I was very interested in the upgrade checking account. Like you, I like taking advantage of sign up bonuses, I had most the ones you mentioned except for upgrade. So I signed up, put all my information and it was asking me to link my other account where they will put money and I can make payments? I am not applying for any loan. Is it supposed to be like that? Thank you.

Wow, how long did it take for them to deposit the $400 after you had the third transaction? That’s a crazy bonus considering there’s no minimum huge deposit like the other banks or any direct deposits set up. I’m strongly considering getting it.

Vanguard Cash Reserves Fed MM acct (VMRXX) has a SEC 7-day yield of 4.50% as of 2/10/23. Vanguard Treasury MM acct (VUSXX) has a yield of 4.40% and in most years 100% of dividends are not subject to state income tax. Moreover these funds are tracking the Federal Reserve discount rate which has been steadily risiing for one year now and is likely to continue to rise by 0.25% at the next Fed mtg or two. No FDIC insurance but Vanguard is rock solid.

How long have you used Marcus? I’ve seen good reviews but also horror stories about trying to withdraw your money. I’ve heard whenever you try to withdraw a large some they lock your account and people have fought with them for months. I’ve also heard they are sinking, thoughts?

Since 2018 I believe! I've had no issues...I've transferred $20K and $36K before. Just the other day I transferred $7K to my main checking account to fund my Roth IRA

Hi Leila, question. What method do you use to transfer money from Bank of America to Marcus? Wire fee is $30
@PersonalFinancewithLeila

Add BOA as an external account on Marcus and then you can make an online transfer through Marcus. There should be no fees ever!

Hello, I am interested in opening my first savings account. I am convinced with to use Marcus but I was wondering if you would recommend starting with at least $700 dollars. The previous amount mentioned is what I can put into my savings at the moment. Is there some benefit there?
@PersonalFinancewithLeila
@PersonalFinancewithLeila Год назад
Any amount is great! There is no minimum required balance so you could start with $1 or the $700 you mentioned and then keep adding to it! Be sure you're opening a HYS account not a CD account, unless you want your money tied up for some time!

This was a great video - I have money just sitting in a savings account at my local bank which is silly since I also have a HYSA with Ally. I’m going to look into some of the ones you suggested - I’d like to get interest and bonuses if I can! Thank you 😉
