Hi Tanya, I look forward to your weekly video. Of course, you & your kids need family time. You still have my support. This week's red oak wood is huge to work on, different tools utilised. The result is so beautiful. You managed to bring out the grain patterns and colours missing nothing. A masterpiece!

Very pretty bowl Tanya. And a nice sized one at that. I have thought about bolting my lathe down but decided against it. You are doing good by checking for the vibrations because those will stress the weakest link in the system. Well that is my theory for what it is worth. Take care, Gary

Great looking bowl Tanya. Dry red oak is not the friendliest wood I've ever turned. You have me thinking about the "Hunter Hercules" tool and how it would work on red oak. Have some fun next week. Excellent narration. Thanks for posting.

Good explanation of the worm screw. The only thing I’d add is that as you are just about right with the jaws, you need to pull the worm screw to the front. Leaving it back in the chuck it can pull forward as you turn. Then you’ll have a failure. There some great points of character in this piece of wood. It came out great. You did a great job with it. Lovely!
@TanyaBecherWoodturning
@TanyaBecherWoodturning 2 года назад
Thank you, Doug! I am not sure what you mean on pulling it forward 🤔 The jaws clap down on the recess part and you can not pull it forward. Maybe you can post a video and explain it. I think different opinions will be very helpful to other turners. I don't know if that is something you have done or plan to do. It would help answer many beginners questions about worm screws. Take care, Tanya 😊

Thank you so much, Jim! I am not sure why you loose your shine. I know if you wash it they will loose it. Your wood is still protected with the product. You can always add polishing paste by hand to add the shine back. Take care, Tanya 😊

Thank you so much, Tim! It is a booger to turn, but makes some really beautiful things! I think you hit the mother load.... Do you ever look at your wood stash and think I don't have enough? I think that alot....but I have enough to turn for 2 or more years without any worries. That definitely doesn't stop us from taking wood people offer.....lol! Take care, Tanya 😊

@@TanyaBecherWoodturning Tanya I've got loads of walnut and white oak and quite a bit of ornamental cherry left this red oak is still reading about 17 to 20 percent moister content which makes it easier to turn 😀

Definitely will be easier to turn. Mine was completely dry. I spent alot of time sharpening my tool for this bowl.

Beautiful bowl Tanya. Question, why 3 coats of sealer. What does 3 coats do that 1 won't. I understand that oak is an open pore wood. Is that the reason?
@TanyaBecherWoodturning
@TanyaBecherWoodturning 2 года назад
Thank you so much, Richard! I use 3 thin coat and denib after each coat. I do this because sometimes it soaks into the wood in spots more than the other. It gives me that glass like finish I love using the Ack's Wood Paste. Take care, Tanya 😊

I have only had that happen one time but it was because of a punky spot that I didn't see.

What do you do with the tenon? Thanks!
@TanyaBecherWoodturning
@TanyaBecherWoodturning 2 года назад
I use the Ron Brown jam chuck. I reverse the bowl on it, then I secure it with the tailstock. I then turn the tenon away.
