I can't wait to get off of work to drive my 2022 Nissan Frontier ProX Baja Storm. I will say this has been my best new vehicle purchase. I traded in my 2019 Nissan Titan SV. I miss the extra room. I do like the gas mileage. Less trips to the pump now. Quite ride, very responsive on the gas pedal and brakes. Handles very well on the turns. I have had it now for a month and a half. Tacoma owners are looking at it.
I think Nissan did a near perfect update for this now becoming crowded market. It may be missing some preferred options. But it is a truck. I like it. Thanks for the review.
I just returned from spending the Thanksgiving long weekend in a Log chalet in that very area with friends (road tested a 40,000 km new 2018/19? .. CPO’d 330i Estate that was just purchased by a friend - I was impressed). Stunningly colourful area at this time of year.... crap roads.
I have no intentions of buying this car however I still watch all your videos. Just love how you two review these cars! Zack’s full of expressions and humour! :)
Love the new exterior styling! My wife hates green on a vehicle but I think the green is fantastic here and would be my pick on a crew cab Pro-X! Thanks for the review!
They did a great job of the redesign of this model. Definitely on my short list, but I saw the Hyundai Santa Cruz the other day and thought that just looked really modern. Great review guys as always 👍👍👍👍
The hyundai is smaller and is a completely different beast. The Hyundai would be good if you want truck like utility but more car like handling whereas this is an actual body on frame.
I just bought a brand new 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro4X today. I'm in so in love with it. I did however test drive the Ford Ranger,Chevrolet Colorado,Tacoma. Even though I work for Ford I decided on the Nissan Frontier Pro4X. I'm in love with this truck!
I agree, Nissan did a great job on this redesign. If I had any complaints, it is the several thousand dollar markup that dealers are placing on each truck.
It’s sad that the dealers feel the need to put addendums on the trucks…..but not all are doing it. People need to shop around …… my neighbor/friend got one without paying an addendum. These new Frontiers are so good.
Got the ‘22 Pro-X, yeah, not a 4x4, but no need…. Absolutely awesome pickup!!!!! Bought over a year ago and love it!!!!!! Had to put $750 for the spay in bed, $250 nerf bars (aftermarket) and $80 for in-channel wind deflectors, but absolutely love it!!!! Hold on to this for 10+ years…. Awesome!!!!!!
@@andreaspencer9813 nissan comes equipped with a garbage bag drivers can put over their heads so people cannot see the idiot who was stupid enough to buy a nissan........the end............FJB
I'm looking forward to getting my pro4x in a few months got to test one for 2 hours. For now I'll just watch video's on RU-vid until I have one in the driveway
Great review guys! I was planning on purchasing a new Tundra SR5, but I'm leaning toward getting yet another Frontier. Yes, I've owned 2 of them before, so I'm obviously a fan. The size is just right for me, but the reason I was planning to go full size this time is because midsize trucks have gotten almost as expensive as full size. I figured I may as well get a lot more capability for just a few grand more. However, I don't really need a full size truck and I do love this new Frontier. The loaded Pro4X Premium is $44k in the US which is steep, but a loaded Tundra SR5 would be $50k! Truck prices have gotten out of hand!
@@timjones6637 I decided that I want at least a 6ft bed so I can get a small slide-in camper. Unfortunately, that rules out the Frontier because the payload is too low and the only Frontier you can get with the long bed is a poorly equipped SV. LED headlights, heated seats, etc aren't even available on the long bed Frontier. So I'm going to wait a year and get a Tundra SR5 which will cost in the upper $40s, but at least I won't have to compromise anything.
The engine is why I'm choosing a Frontier over the Tacoma. Every Toyota truck I have driven with the 3.5, Tacoma or 4Runner feels like its working hard to reach in town speed limits. the Frontier even the previous 4.0 had plenty of power, the 3.8 is no different.
like watching all the reviews..and the honest opinions...these trucks are really a darkhorse around here,,but with that engine and the new looks sounds like a winner to me.
I just bought a 2023 and I love it trying to figure out all the different bells and whistles. My Nissan frontier that I sold recently was 20 years old… a 2003
Great review as always you two. I've owned 5 Nissan SUV's and never had a single issue. They make great products. One negative on this new truck though is that it does not have a Telescopic wheel . Come on Nissan. This is terrible in this day and age.
Drum breaks are considered superior off-road / in trucks for a couple reasons. They have a higher static friction holding surface area and they are harder to get stuff inside of and mess up, when in mud water rock etc. Basically on a truck if you are parking with a loaded trailer on a hill, the friction surface is substantially larger for a given diameter of brake. This means the truck is much less likely to break away from the emergency brake. They are also cheaper to replace. The only real negative I know of would be heat build up, but that has been addressed numerous ways. This is why most brakes on 18 wheelers are still drum. Some have disc brakes on the front 2 wheels but almost all the others are drums. That is at least from what I have seen.
Well said, drum brakes are old technology but it works and you are right about better suited for off road driving, I take my 2016 Tacoma on the trails quite a bit at 157K on it I have replaced the front brakes once already but the drums still going, just maintenance that’s all.
You have some good points except about 18 wheelers; the industry has finally changed once the calipers became reliable and the added safety is quite considerable over drum brakes. They last far more longer than drum brakes. Also pretty much all semi-tractors come standard with disc brakes now. Toyota reasoning for sticking with drum brakes is not so relevant anymore except perhaps for the few doing hard core off-roading.
Nice looking truck and great review. Be interesting to see how much the Maverick eats up the bottom end of these smaller trucks with it's considerable price advantage.
@@weirdshibainu Maverick XL turbo is only a couple grand less than a base Frontier now, which is rather comical. The Frontier is a bigger, more powerful, and more capable truck.
Beautiful Truck, Fair price ,reliable, But needs front ventilated seats and rear A/C vents for southern buyers, the back seat is very tight. We never will need the heated seats, these up grades would make Frontier a great mid-size. Thanks from South Ga.
would like to see a review that discusses the failures of the last generation (differential, rear bumper that sticks out and gets all dinged up by rocks, heavy front end that wears parts prematurely, and how they improved it. It looks great but thats just fluff.
Very good looking truck for sure, that green is gorgeous, just can't believe they didn't update it for 16 years. One thing about Nissan is that they have the most comfortable seats in it's class, even better than my new GV70's seats.
Not a lot of people know about their global market, Nissan did make a revised version. It’s called the Navara over seas and it’s a modern diesel. However our regulations are to strict for it to make it successful in North America. A very beautiful truck as well and they released it for the global Morley around the time the frontier should have been updated with new looks. I have the 2010 frontier pro4x in alert red and I love it. It’s lifted on mud tires and it’s never given me any trouble. Just change the oil. I’ll definitely be looking to get a new alert red Pro4X in January 🤟🏼
I love the red color on this and the green one as well, you should have given sometime to show the vehicle exterior with different colors before jumping into the ride and features, good video though.
I own a 2016 Tacoma with Manual transmission. The Tacoma V6 it’s just fine the problem is the gearing in the automatic transmission. Technology in trucks is good to a certain degree but not to justify a higher price tag or just for the sake of keeping up with the competition. Do you really need a bigger infotainment screen? I will assume that people buy pickup trucks to use and abuse. Looking at trucks these days are becoming overpriced appliances on wheels. Practicality and simplicity it’s getting to be non existent.
I am so glad someone brought that up ;) it is a competition to amenities and not to utility, I would love to see more bed equipment standards on 6 foot beds
You nailed it. My truck has manual locks and windows and a manual transmission. I'm not afraid to get it dirty by any means, or throw a load of rock or dirt in the bed.
Looks like a nice truck. Nice to see it come with a king cab long bed. I don't bring extra people with me often, but I do like to haul a lot of stuff and it will fit in my garage.
I traded in a 2023 Hyundai for my 2023 Frontier Pro-4X. There is NO comparison, one is a TRUCK, the other is a Tucson SUV with a bed on the back and it drives like a long Tucson. But other than what it is, I cannot say the Hyundai was not fun to drive, comfortable and cornered great. My problem was, it was NOT a truck and for an old-timer like me, a truck needs a body-on-frame, not a unibody.
2018 ram 1500(321 rear) Hemi, I average 22 mpg over my 2 years and 35,000 miles. Currently getting 23-24 mpg with All-Seasons on after winter.. But race stop sign to stop sign and you will get great gas mileage. I get 544 miles per tank, regular tank size…
Thanks for the great review. I own a previous gen Frontier Pro 4x, and love it. Can wait to get the new one...did they improve the turning radius in 4LO on the redesigned one?
Why do people keep saying they’ve been waiting 16 years for the new Frontier? The 2005 Frontier went on sale in December 2004, and nobody was saying, “Wow, this sure feels old. I can’t wait for the new Frontier.”
Great vid, Zack. Hope you guys had a good time on our bumpy roads. :) 62% of its value after 5 years, you say? I might be wrong but I feel it's way up there!
Jerome, you’d be interested to know I sold my wrangler for a bit more that I bought it for new 2.5 years ago. 105% retained value over 30 months! But we are living in a strange time...
the new Nisan looks fantastic, although Tacoma may be a bit pricier , you pay for reliability and resell value. yes the last generation of Frontier may have been pretty reliable but this is a totally new truck and its pretty much gaurenteed to have problems. i rather wait a couple years for Nisan to work out problems with their new trucks. btw Andrea i love your videos
@@haze1123 Yes, I guess because the Frontier used the older technology and based more on 1990s design and tech, rather than 2000s after their quality went down, it was a good thing in this case. It was more reliable than the more modern cars and crossovers. Hopefully the new one follows in those footsteps. I see (thankfully) it does not have a CVT.
@@reallyrandomrides1296 Nissan trucks never used a CVT, and the only trucks on the market with a better resale value than the Frontier are the Tacoma and the Tundra.
@@whiskeyearned1543 Yes, I guess the CVT either isn't durable enough for a truck, or just the wrong choice, especially for things like trailer towing. And true, they hold their resale value. I was looking at Titans and Frontiers in addition to Tacomas and Tundras. Ultimately settled on a Tundra.
Welcome to poutine ville, thx for the weather u brought. Good job Nissan. Hope the transmission shows up elsewhere. Zack said it well, stripped down model and know what u need out of a truck. Are u towing? City or off roading? Hit me up guys if u want the best poutine places in MTL. Good day
I’m considering this truck as it’s good looking and like the power from a N/A engine . I own a Gas thirsty RAM TRX but it soo much fun !! 702 hp hellcat engine . I’ve owned all the other 3 manufacturers but I must say I’m close to downgrading and hope I don’t regret it ?
You guys cut the night light show out? I thought that was a cool segment of your show. Show off the vehicles off at night with all their lights on inside and out... I think the Jeep Gladiator would have been a good comparison vs. the Honda Ridgeline.
In TX the dealerships have very few trucks, the trims are picked and sent by Nissan and they're not that good at all. It you add the premium package you are forced to get the leather seats no red trim. 42k ProX with premium is going for 50K here due to shortage, no one appears to be selling at sticker.
Put my money on a 2022 Tacoma because I like retaining a lot more of that money when I upgrade. Hopefully this new frontier retains value better than last generation
The Reason as to why Tacoma still has chosen to stick with rear drums vs rotors is because sand isn't good for rear rotors or brakes of any kind for that matter. When they did test rear rotors in sand there was a very loud screaming squeaking grinding taking place while the sand got trapped in the rotors. Therefore having rotors in the rear or any four by four is problematic. That is why they chose to keep the drums instead of going with the rotors, the drums protects the rear brakes from sand getting clogged up in the rear brakes which obviously makes it a better choice to stick with drums. Plus, You don't need rotors at the back for breaking power the rear drums are fine because most of your braking is done with the front rotors to begin with, that is why you don't have to replace your drum pads very often because only ten percent of the back brakes are required in a braking situation. so there you go. I watched a video on this that Tacoma had put out years ago but I cannot find it on the web anymore. This does look like a nice truck! but I think it cost way too much money. If I did reconsider I'd have to see how it does in a couple years before jumping the gun on that one, gotta wait till all the kinks are worked out. I have a 2014 Tacoma Sport crew cab with the v6 and I love the truck! we haven't had a problem at all with that truck, its super reliable truck. My only complaint is the drivers seat, its not powered. I wish it had electric seats with all the bells and whistles, thats only complaint I have with my Tacoma and that's because I have back issues.
Traded in my 2015 Frontier Pro-4X for a 2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. Really wish I would have waited for the new Frontier! Miss the sound system, cup holders that actually hold a real water bottle (nalgene) amongst other things. I would swap back if the Nissan had a hybrid, not only to save on gas, extend range but also reduce my impact. Also, Nissan needs to find a way to get more aftermarket parts into the market. You can put anything and everything on a Tacoma, so much choice, good luck with the Frontier.
I test drove it and a few cons that I saw: 1. Premium package no longer has power seat on passenger side. 2. Power seats no longer have a tilt option. Felt I was sitting lower. Compared to my 19, a step backward. 3. Backup cam is very low resolution. At this price point that is ridiculous. 4. Weld joints on roof are unfinished. At least on some that i"ve seen. Looks like an opportunity for rust to develop in weld/crack. 5. On Nissan forums complaints of dash rattles. Loose screws and other QC issues. 6. Fully Direct injection engine means there could be issues down the road for carbon build up on motor. Time will tell. Overall not worth upgrading my 19 P4X. Bed capacity towing is not really improved. Low end torque is about the same. A loaded P4X literally cost 10K more then my loaded19 with premium package. At this point, waiting on the next gen ranger which should offer a more capable truck with the 2.7 eco which will offer a ton more capability and low end torque. Ford will not cut corners with their sync 5 infotainment and put low rez displays and take out power seat controls etc.. This is still a great upgrade for Nissan but is not future proofed to compete against the competitions next gens. Also Colorado will offer their 2.7 turbo which will also up the game for low end torque. Ford/GM will definitely offer v8 like power very soon.
I just bought one and am not a big fan. The steering feels very hard. Not fluid at all. It’s very hard to take off slowly due to the first 3 gears being so short. I hate all this new technology crap like the adaptive cruise which can’t be turned off. It doesn’t ride very good and the side mirrors are so small you always have to adjust your head to check them. You can’t just give a quick glance. I love the look though.
Two weeks ago I was excited about getting my 5th Datsun/Nissan truck, since 1976...Now I'm pissed off...had to order a Colorado yesterday...Two 2 Wheel drive...(no 4x4 ever)..for me...
Had the 2005 for 7 years. Was a solid truck, used it for acreage work, camping and was able to tow a lot. Pig on gas however. Sold it after 7 years due to the kids outgrowing the back. Its been a very long time for an update. Did they fix the gas usage? My Chev Avalanche with a V8 gets better gas mileage than this did
I've heard on the interstate if you don't go too fast its better on MPG's. But still not great. Its still a tank and weighs even more then the outgoing truck. They decided to stay with a larger motor NA engine so its not going to be as good as Fords little eco. Back seat is no bigger. Truck is longer but that's all in the nose. IMO, Nissan needed to go with a smaller displacement engine using induction or offer a hybrid option. This truck needs more low end torque. It will soon be passed up with GM/Fords 2.7 turbos as far as low end torque. Not future proofed enough IMO.
I may be wrong, but you did not address the fold down back seats. Do they fold down flat or not ? Also, do they offer "Crawl Control" or is that an option only available on the Toyota Tacoma ?
