This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma mid-sized pickup truck.
We were only able to drive the standard all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma i-Force powertrain, a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. There is a 6-speed manual transmission available on select models with automatic rev matching and anti-stall technology. Manual transmission models produce 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The more powerful all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma I-Force Max Hybrid powertrain will be available next year. It has a 2.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. This nearly doubles the torque of the current V6 model.
The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma can tow 6500 pounds and has an increased payload of over 1700 pounds. There is 7% increase in bed volume and an available tonneau cover. It gets 9.5” to 11” of ground clearance.
The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma is designed, engineered and assembled in North America It is built upon the TNGA-F platform which uses lightweight and more durable frames and new powertrains to achieve better fuel economy, a lower centre of gravity and better overall performance on and off-road. This truck platform is shared with the Tundra and Sequoia.
Here’s the MSRP for the gas model, the hybrid pricing has not been announced yet.
In Canada, the Xtracab will be coming at a later time so there is no pricing for the Canadian market for that model.
All-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma
Gas DoubleCab
SR5 6-foot $46,950 CAD
TRD Off-Road 6-foot $50,650 CAD
TRD Sport 6-foot $50,050 CAD
TRD Sport + 6-foot $54,450 CAD
TRD Sport Premium 6-foot $58,150 CAD
TRD Off-Road 6MT 5-foot $48,550 CAD
TRD Off-Road Premium 5-foot $58,350 CAD
TRD Sport+ 6MT 5-foot $52,350 CAD
The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma iForce Hybrid Max model will be available on Trailhunter, TRD Pro and Limited models.
In the US, there are so many different gas model configurations for all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma XtraCab and DoubleCab to 4x2 to 4x4, the Tacoma starts at $31,500 for the SR Xtracab 4x2 and goes all the way up to $52,100 USD for the Limited Double Cab 4x4. There are lots of different trims for different budgets.
4x4 i-Force automatic does vary a little bit depending on the trim you choose.
12.4L/100 km City 19 MPG City
10.2L/100 km Highway 24 MPG Highway
Fuel Economy for the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid powertrain has not been announced yet.
The all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma gas model can tow up to 6500 pounds.

2nd and 3rd gen owner here. Both bought new. Glad to hear they finally fixed the driveline issues. Sorry they didn't fix the other reason I sold them shortly after buying: I'm 5' 10" and have to duck to get in the cab. That and the transmission is why I sold.

If anyone understands this market class… it has to be Toyota. They have been THE class leader in this category for years. This is probably the best truck (in any size) that 93% of the population need. It is that good. And as I am hardly a Toyota Tacoma ‘sycophant’… this is high praise. Thanks for the video.

The reason the sales of six speed manual transmissions are low is because you can not get a manual transmission in a double cab with six foot box. If you could I would have bought my 2023 with a manual transmission. You can’t even put a pair of adult skis in a 5 foot box.

As a 2006 2wd 4cyl Tacoma, where is a non Turbo Hybrid Tacoma? That would be a fuel mileage king in this section! My 2.7L gets 11.5 L/100km city and 8.5 L/100km highway! I get 9.8L/100km towing 3000lbs of boat and trailer with 800lbs of load in the truck (people, dog and load). A electric assist front drive would be a nice addition as well!

Looks like a big improvement over last years. I really love the rugged exterior and the interior looks much more comfortable. Most vehicles at our Toyota are about 4 weeks out unless you want a specific setup. The turbo 4 I know is going to worry some people about longevity but I believe the bottom line is that this isn't the same turbo 4s we saw even 10 years ago. There is a good video of the chief engineer discussing the Toyota turbo 4.

10% more efficient - well if you do not take too much advantage of the turbo (fortunately turbos last the life of the engine now - ah not). Now the gem is the manual transmission, it could be fantastic when people look back in 10 years. Great for "the many" who have not tried a manual transmission - the manual was just tough in bumper to bumper city traffic, but besides that they are pretty nice - they sometimes do not work "easily" with remote starters, but that might be a problem that no longer exists.

Why ditch turbo? Are you old ( I don’t mean this disrespectfully, I’m 43 ). Turbos aren’t like they used to be, they’re actually reliable now and these engines have been proven with Lexus for years. That said, if you just don’t like turbos that’s perfectly fine.

@@scootsmcdoots80 it's just a bunch more parts to fail in 10 years. Expensive repairs. I know turbos are more reliable than they used to be but they're still less reliable than no turbo. I own a 2022 tacoma 4x4 , my biggest issue is fuel range, I get about 17.5 fuel mileage and can go around 300 miles before looking to fill up, I also have a f150 4x4 with the 2.7 turbo ,it gets 20 mpg with a camper top and I can get 600 miles per tank because I ordered the extended range fuel tank. towing i can go 400 miles which is nice, so for me and other owners that I know ,who off road ,a extended range fuel tank would be nice or just put a bigger fuel tank in ,about 10 more gallons capacity would be real nice so we are not filling up so much .

Most dealerships in the USA have $2K - $15K markups on all their vehicles. It’s stupid. We drove 5 hours round trip to save $5K when I bought my wife her Outback for her 50th birthday. Then we had to drive a 6 hour round trip to buy my Forester. The Toyota dealership in Yakima, Washington Doesn’t have any markups and the Subaru dealership in Spokane Washington Doesn’t have any markup’s either. Cascade Subaru in Wenatchee doesn’t have markups either, but they put a LOT pressure on you to sell You what you Don’t want and their service department SUCKS !

@@elguapo8751 I don’t know about Bellevue dealerships. 1 of the Toyota dealerships (not Larson) doesn’t have dealership markups. We live in a very mountainous area in north central Washington state between Wenatchee and Leavenworth. Town Toyota in east Wenatchee has a $2K dealership markup and they DONT offer the Costco discount, but the Toyota dealership in Yakima Does offer the Costco discount and they Don’t have any markups. When we bought our Subaru’s we drove to Tacoma for my wife’s Outback and to Carter Subaru in Shoreline. When we bought our Subie’s it was post Covid and hardly anyone had any vehicles so we had to go where the dealer had the color combinations that we wanted. My wife wanted the Cinnamon Brown pearl with Ivory interior. I wanted either the Bronze, Autumn Green or a White Forester but it had to have the saddle Brown Leather interior. There were a LOT of Forester Touring’s but they all had Boring, depressing, gloomy, outdated, drab Black interior, but Carter Subaru in Shoreline, WA had a Sephia Bronze with saddle Brown Leather interior with No markups, so we saved almost $7K for a 6 hour round trip to buy the Forester Touring that I had been looking for, for over 6 months. So we saved over $1K an hour for driving the 6 hours. I was looking in WA, ID, MT, OR, but Shoreline had it. Just pick up the phone and call around to see who will give you the better price.

I would wait a few years before buying this new model. If you are going to buy a first year model, Toyota is the way to go. However, a 4 cylinder turbo will not be as reliable as a non-turbo engine. That's just reality. Add an electric motor and now you have even more potential for longterm problems. Toyota had no choice but to go with a 4banger. They need to get the gas mileage up. This truck looks like a way overdue improvement, but the powertrain is still unproven. It will be interesting how much you'll actually have to pay for one of these.

The fuel efficiency increase of 10% is very disappointing. The upcoming LandCruiser (Prado) is estimated to get 27MPG combined, and the i-force Tacoma is fighting, FIGHTING for 21MPG combined whilst wearing a huge chin spoiler!?! The base and i-force (non-max) engines are just average for the class. Very underwhelming Toyota. On Pricing: a Tacoma ‘24 limited i-force is $10K~ USD more than the ‘23, which is significant and feels way out of step. Seriously - a ‘24 Tundra Limited configured the same way is only $5k more and gets 1MPG less city/highway/combined. You can’t make this stuff up. Is Toyota really going to drag their feet until late March/April for the Limited, TRD-Pro, and Trail Hunter drive-event and embargo release? Those trucks are being tested all over the roads in the USA right now.

No one has mentioned all the MOLLE panels in the front doors and under that console grab bar - excellent design choice / kinda copied from the Bronco.

Hi Andrea and Zack, my son is looking for his first car and he has his eyes set on the Corolla hatchback, should he go for the Standard S model or the SE upgrade? Also you think he should go for other hatchback other than Toyota? Thanks and love your show.

Get the Ford Maverick Hybrid instead. Great fuel economy and will be way more handy as he starts life.
