*You are alone in the woods camping when suddenly you hear loud crashing footsteps, you turn around and see the beast known as siren head. It knees down in front of you and leans in. Suddenly, it stops, and it starts blasting a rickroll before fleeing off to rickroll other campers.*
They picked Hiroshima because they wanted to pick the cities that fit the requirements of being close to military bases and would also have the most traumatic impact emotionally on Japan. They were going to go for Kyoto but the reason they ultimately decided against it was because they wanted to keep the option to be able to reconcile with Japan after the war, and destroying the cultural center of Japan would make any friendly future with Japan impossible
18:00 I really appreciate Damien's attempt to pronounce a Dutch name, and I guess, with the noises he knows, that would be the most logical way to say it. But if you want to know how you actually pronounce it (as best as I can describe some sounds. The "van" part would be pretty hard, but I think I can make it pretty close to the actual pronounciation) would be: Ahn-tony vahn Lay-wen-hook
Honestly, I know this is completely unrelated but...THE EMKAY BACKGROUND SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING. just listen to it while you're watching. The team did great ✌
It was an important military base, but also it had not been subjected to conventional bombing and would give an accurate assessment of the damage caused by the atom bomb.
Yeah, what could say better that you are an a hole by destroying two whole cities full of innocent citizens while on the other hand you are crying about one MILITARY base that was bombed on your own land....sorry you tell on yourself USA, you are not the hero here
@@georgejones3526 By 'conventional bombing' we really should state that it wasn't subjected to fire bombing, which was especially effective in Japan due to the extensive wood and paper construction of most buildings letting the fire do far more damage than the bombs themselves. Some of the US military leadership were specifically asking for some major cities to not be fire bombed into oblivion so they would have at least one or two they could use to demonstrate the power of the Nuke. Most cities they requested to be left alone like this were rejected and fire bombed anyway. I think Hiroshima was 6th on the list, and Nagasaki was around 14th or so. Been a while since I saw the notes from the meetings.
22:26 I somehow convinced myself when I was very young that shampoo tightens your scalp, and conditioner loosens it. So whenever I’d accidentally put conditioner in first, I was absolutely horrified at the fact that ‘my hair was gonna fall out from my scalp being too loose’.
1:06 “Why did they pick Hiroshima” Hiroshima had two factories that manufactured bombs and torpedoes for the imperial air force and navy. The intent was to drop Little Boy at a place between the two factories and destroy them both.
22:16 A stupid reason I have a scar is I (for no reason that they could tell after being told what they were) developed strange hives on my arms, which was what made it even stranger as it was EXCLUSIVE to my arms and it wasn't itchy or bothering me in any capacity. So because of that they had to take an entire sample chunk of one from my arm to analyze what they were so I could get it properly treated, and despite having the hole in my arm stitched up (which wasn't at all big) its still noticeable since it was a circular portion they took out. But yeah that's something that happened to me it was relatively uneventful and all it ended up doing in the long run as giving me a strange scar on my arm
1:07 Hiroshima was chosen because by that point it was one of the few large cities still intact or undamaged by earlier firebombing raids. There were also several major military sites in/around the area, including a communications center, Army headquarters, weapons factories, and an active port. Hiroshima's topography made it the better target as well as the city sat in a valley which could concentrate the blast and shockwaves.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were chosen because they actually had military infrastructure in and around them. Also virtually unbombed compared to other major cities at the time.
Both locations for atomic bombings were chosen for their strategic location and military installations and factories and a relatively small city to minimize civilian casualties
22:16 I was getting out of bed once, and my feet were tangled up in the blankets. I tripped, fell, and cut my lip on the corner of my nightstand. If you look closely, you can see a little bump on my lower lip where it healed.
9:03 was not expecting a multporn cameo, but I entirely understand where that guy was coming from, the moral questionability of whoever uploads that shit is large.
The reason Hiroshima and Nagasaki were picked was because the other major cities such as Tokyo had already been mostly destroyed and they needed a city that was still standing to show of the nukes power.
It had more to do with them being trade and logistics hubs. Nuking the imperial palace was also suggested but rejected because of cultural significance.
imagine someone had done this to the USA... "We just wanted to show how nice the nuclear bomb is, so we nuked New York and LA with all their civilians."
@rebeccarimmer6348 Yeah, I heard in a Vsauce video that there was a city named Kokura that they planned to nuke but didn't because it was cloudy there and they couldn't get visual confirmation
31:02 the guy swith the nintendo shirt is plainrock124 he does a lot of board smashing vids where he destroys things like ps5 so thats why the comment was made
22:15 i didn't want to ask a guy to move slightly to the left so I could get to class and instead jumped off a locker and onto the corner of a brick barrier with my stomach. Went to maths after clutching my side and let nobody know but the one guy who must've heard. Wasn't bleeding so much that I thought it was worth leaving 10 minutes in once the adrenaline ran out but I now have a permanent reminder to just ask people when you need the to do something cut all the way up the side of my stomach looking like I've been shanked with a big ol' machete. It WAS however bleeding and I WAS in a lot of pain. It was though a hoodie or something but it's still a bad idea.
28:35 for me it's drug resistance. Stage 3 cancer and they ended up giving me the maximum recommended dosage or even above it at times, i was part of the drug testing for the drug Brentuximab Vedotin and i was one of the highest in terms of dosages (they told me at least i was getting the second highest dosage in the entire program), I've woken up during surgery and once failed the first attempt at anesthesia requiring a second dose, first time taking anything stronger then tylenol I was given large vicodins (80mg or 100mg if i remember right) and took more then the daily max amount prescribed in the space of 90 minutes and ended up calling the doctor because it didnt take away the pain, make me sick, make me high, or have any effect on me whatsoever (and that was at age 15) and i'm the same way with most meds needing the larger doses of everything. I'm not much of a drinker but I'm similar with alcohol and require a fair amount to get drunk and i rarely get hangovers (I can only remember 3 times and 1 was the day after my 21st birthday and another was my first night in Vegas, both didnt last long) and even when i do drink people cant really tell if i've even been drinking, even when I'm pretty blasted.
Teeth do itch. Nails on a chalkboard, biting tinfoil, for me, it’s the idea of a dry wash rag in my mouth… That sensation is your teeth itching. As in [someone scrapes a brick across a steel cooking grill] “man that sound make my teeth itch”.
0:58 Quick and dirty answer they manufactured war materiel AND it was a compact city. They wanted to scare Japan into surrendering AND demonstrate the power of the new type of bomb. So they blew up the ability to produce stuff for the military ANd demonstrated the weapon by essentially destroying an entire city with one bomb. (70% but in practice close enough) A bigger city wouldn't have been as completely destroyed.
I mean, have you seen the portrait of George Washington when he was a 21-year old British soldier serving in the French & Indian War? Man was pretty good looking as a young lad.
12:29 wait wait wait serious moment do teeth not normally itch like dont you sometimes get the urge to like scratch your teeth with your other teeth? do i need to go see a doctor????
