Updated for season 3. The bit in the end is my hope for evading the Made for Kids label. But also fuck google. Why did I actually spend half an hour on that thumbnail... edit 08.07.24 RU-vid for Kids will never claim this video muahahahah
@@kappapride6332 Same! All my friends were complaining about how he doesn’t sound anything like Shadow, but I think it suits him better! Far better than Kirk at least.
@MATEOH_LETSGOOOOOOO Yeah. I'll admit, Kirk's work in Forces was much better but it still doesn't really do it for me. Ian's performance, I think, is much closer to Shadow's JP VA Koji Yusa.
Ian Hanlin Shadow is also my favorite! I dont hate Kirk as much as I did in the beginning. I think he’s improved and I think he did well in the Dark Beginnings teaser (he’s also revealed that he now has a better understanding of the character). That being said I’d replace Kirk with Ian in a heartbeat. I think he did a great job with him.
@@madisonyearwood7925 Yeah! Ian is the voice I think of when I imagine Shadow. Kirk’s just feel a little too high pitched and gruff, Ian does a good impression of Jason while giving it his own twist. It really feels like Shadow!
@@creeper4481 oh I know it's giving "oh sht I didn't think he'd-FCK" vibes lol and then him just PUNCHING Sonic away when they were at one of the gates FOR WHAT REASON? lol Shadow was a riot here. I'm so glad they gave him a PERSONALITY again.
How they portrayed Shadow in this show made me realize that Shadow does work with comedic moments if they are done right, which the guys who worked on Sonic Boom didn't think he could so they made him a really out of place serious edge lord
Shadow being comically serious was something I loved about the series. Hell, the part where Eggman kept fanboying over him cracked me up, not to mention Eggman actively using sentence mixing to get Shadow to go after Sonic. That show had some good comedy.
All of the Sonic Boom characters are flandarized satirations of themselves.. which seems to be the point in the TV show at least. Not sure if that's purposeful in Rise of Lyric, or if it's just poorly written.
@@GamingWithRoxyAndFriends wow. totally didnt notice that when watching all 3 seasons of Sonic Prime when they released. im SO happy you pointed that obvious and hard to miss detail in the season 3 finale episode
@@mastermindoftrouble Haha- I didn’t notice my first few times watching tbh- Some people usually pay attention to Sonic and not give a damn about Shadow sometimes, yknow?
I like how he’s not just scowling brooding stoic arm crosser . I love his more sarcastic side and while yeah he is brooding and dedicated, there is that sense of respect for sonic and rightfully so. Better than he’s been for the last 14 years
I just love how they gave Sonic and Shadow a sort of sibling dynamic. Sonic the goofy younger brother who annoys Shadow to no end and Shadow the older brother who can’t stand him but still cares about him. It’s the same dynamic me and my sister have lol
I agree bro that’s what I see in them too is sonic is the annoying younger brother and like what shadow is the older brother who can’t stand him but still cares
@@user-lf3id6uo6cSonic was claiming he could be faster than he was. Shadow pointed how he failed. (A blip would be like being gone in 0.1 seconds. Sonic can’t usually be that fast. (For his own good. When he gets that fast, his sanity is usually strained AF and he can hurt himself pretty bad))
Shadow was the highlight of Prime for sure 😂 One I laughed at repeatedly was when he saved Sonic from getting hit by a crystal in the void and when Sonic told him “thanks buddy!” Shadow claps back immediately with “don’t get used to it 😑”
Shadow saying “Smashing hoards of sonics isn’t the worst thing in the world” to Sonic had similar energy to me as Wolverine saying “I get to kill 100 you’s, f**k yeah I’m ready” to Deadpool.
Sonic Prime made me so freaking happy. Shadow has always had a sarcastic, biting sense of humor and this show brought that back! Hes not an edgelord, hes just very focused and serious, especially when hes got things to do. This show got his character so close to the OG games and even gave him more comedic moments than he had before. I will always hold this show in high regard just for that alone.
I genuinely like his voice in this show better than his current in-game voice, and by a wide margin. The characterization for Shadow in this show was also _excellent._
I feel like this Shadow is a direct continuation of SA2's original version, and we can just pretend that his "crawling in my skin" emo phase never happened. He seems more fleshed out and part of the world around him. In other games he just kinda stood around angrily and brooded.
I haven’t seen much of Prime with Shadow in it, and I just gotta give so much credit to his VA! It’s not your typical Shadow voice, but it works so well for him, and none of his delivery is sacrificed for his edginess!
"Oh, I can help." See THAT is how you can make Shadow fun. When he has that deadpan really dry humor it bounces off so well against the others who are more earnest.
Seeing Shadow say "You're a colorful bunch" in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer makes me hopeful of a similar Shadow to this version. Sarcastic and funny in his own way. Keanu Reeves was perfect for him.
This is my favorite version of Shadow by far. I love his witty, sarcastic personality more than just his straightbrooding, emo-ness. It adds more to his character. Plus this is one of my favorite voices for him.
Thanks for the video! I know Shadow and Sonic fought a lot in the show but I loved the part where Sonic and Shadow teamed up to fight the hordes, and Shadow saving Sonic. Goes to show Shadow cares a lot about his friends and his home too. Plus the animation is so expressive and fluid, I loved the show.
@@Starrmonster02 i know, i just agreed with previous comment that i didn't get why he used that excuse either since he is still strong enough to get out of there on his own even without the emerald
I'm hoping they realize this is sort of the best way to bridge the gap of 'edgy mc hedge' and move to this. he can still be an asshole, brutally honest and direct. But he has a sarcastic, quieter and dry humour that bounces off Sonic quite well. Trust me, I like the edgyiness to a certain extent. But he definetly couldn't stay that way forever, or atleast all the time. Lean into it sometimes for a laugh but it can't dominate his personality anymore.
Nah, wouldn’t take it that far. Sonic is the best lead character. He is hope to many people, the way he always keeps his positive outlook, even when things get bleak (and even though it slips occasionally recently, you understand why.) I definitely want Shadow to be included in the group more, since his viewpoint is pretty different from the others, so it adds different angles when the group approach an issue, but he shouldn’t be the main character.
1:12 I really wish they would be better about more blatantly establishing that proper, full-on Chaos Control requires an emerald and the little short range teleport he can do by himself (like in the recent movie trailer, which everyone was annoyingly and incorrectly referring to as chaos control) is actually technically called Chaos Snap.
HA! I'm curious to see how well the updated version does compared to the older one. Edit: it already does much worse but that's what I get for keeping the original video up. But oh well who cares.
why did this text capture the voice so perfectly 😂😂😂😂😂 but honestly, my top fav voice for shads is kirk, took me a while to get to his prime voice here but now i like that voice too ;u;
Ian I thought played shadow really well. I wish he would've been cast either in Sonic 3 or Sonic x Shadow generations.. Leaps and bounds better than Kirk Thornton.
“I! Am the ultimate! LIFE FORM!” I think Shadow is overrated most of the time, but literally every time he was in a scene in Prime was golden. If only the rest of the writing was halfway competent.
I say he’s not overrated, mainly because they’ve had a ridiculous set of rules that has kept Shadow from being in a vast majority of games or comics over the years. Those rules were only repealed recently with Sonic Prime (announced officially with TMOSTH’s release) Everyone has known Shadow would have a ton to add to the group, and so everyone was excited for the moment for those hopes to be realized.
"Oh I can help" "HELP GET YOUR MIN STRAIGHTENED UP" Than again, I love how Shadow is full ass aware of the situation he's in and tries to warn Sonic what happens if he didn't listen.
