For future ref: "facsimile" is pronounced "fac-sim-i-lee". It is like the literary device "simile" which is Latin for "alike" so facsimile means "to make alike". I am always saying words wrong and I hate when I get caught up mid-conversation (I go red and brain stops) so please don't think I'm pointing out to ridicule, just for future conversations! :)
@@tristaylor3092 nope, not an accent-dependent thing :) but it’s one of those words that you see written more often than you hear it spoken, so probably gets mispronounced a lot.
Fun fact: In English you pronounce "similee", but the original pronunciation would be "si-mi-leh". It's okay, even many English words' pronunciation is butchered in other languages, this is a very natural phenomenon. Words get adapted to the phonetics of the language which adopt them, therefore "fac-si-mi-lee" is indeed the correct pronunciation in English.
I try to be as technologically equipped as the rest of genz, but writing on ipads( and gaming for more than 20 minutes straight) is something i can never do
I did an English literature degree just like Ruby, and we often discussed the value of video games! There was even a third year course on games and literature. They can be very valuable for tracing the development of genres, and when studying sci fi. This was before the game was released, but we discussed the new cyberpunk game in my final year science fiction class when reading neuromancer. It was great for looking at the depiction of female characters in sci fi! Sorry for the ramble, just very interested in this topic :) hope you have a lovely weekend! ❤️

admire so much Ruby's motivation and productivity in lockdown - i can't wait to start studying English at university next year to get back my productivity (having to change my gap year plans and go back to college and not study English has meant my motivation has gone so low but seeing how excited Ruby is about English makes me so excited be able to fully immerse myself in it again)

just started my second to last year of high school and last year i was all over the place due to the pandemic, but i discovered your channel during my summer break and now i’m back at school and i already feel so much better and so much more motivated!! i’ve handed all my assignments in early and i’m managing to be productive even when i’m not in class (and wake up with time to spare, since i’m doing remote learning it can be hard to not wake up 10 mins before class and take it in my pj’s hahaha)! but anyways, just wanted to say thanks!! hope to get to your level of productivity one day hahaha 🥰

Im a very young 55yr old and find your videos so relaxing and inspire me to read more and so wish I could turn the clock back, I love literature and especially like you the Victorian era. While watching you doing extensive research on tea, I was just wondering if you would like to look into the colonial roots of tea, the role of East India Company in starting the Opium Wars with China for tea and later establishing very exploitative tea plantations in India? This might be deviating from your obvious topic, but given the colonial history of Britain and India, I think it's worth looking how tea was a crucial import commodity for Britain that perpetuated colonialism in India, Ceylon and China. Just a thought.
