She talks to people and has logic and reason behind her actions. I caught up with the part 2 manga a few days ago and damn that was an awesome devil fight. I wasn't 100% on the chef design, but its body being made of mangled corpses was amazing.

(Also, and i can’t be certain about this, but aren’t devils stronger in hell? If the answer is yes then the falling devil was giga nerfed compared to the darkness devil, and still the falling devil has greater feats)

It's one of the first things that scares people, and it even scares animals. _And_ it doesn't require thought to be afraid of - the brain just goes "nope! don't like that", and then most people can talk the brain down.

I have a theory that pochita is the fear of unknown as he makes people forget the concepts of the fears. I believe the Hell devil has to be quite strong as it holds power to another realm where the other powerful devils reside, such as Darkness.

@@Nedoiko If a Devil requires people to fear their Aspect in order for them to become stronger, then such Devils are always weaker than entities who don't need religion to both exist and to bend the fabric of reality. In other words... Chainsaw Man's Devils are weak when you boil it down. It's an interesting concept but I eat God Souls on Mondays. So, those Devils are nothing in my presence.

Like I get your argument but I don't think that has to nescesarily be the case, a chainsawman chapter could drop tomorrow and fujimoto could go "Oh yeah this guy, this devil is literally omnipotent", because such is the nature of fiction, I should also point out that the scale of power of a story doesn't directly impact on its narrative quality, there's a reason Deus Ex Machina is considered a bad trope Looking at Chainsawman, other than lacking heavily in terms of speed, it does hax extremely well, many characters have "i decided you unexist right now" type powers and could contend with some other shonen heavyhitters. This reminds me of an odd interaction I had some years ago in some powerscalling forum, where a hardcore atheist joined and started calling for revisions on pretty much every character because "we shouldn't assume characters have souls, so every character should have soul attack resistance", the conversation went into him talking about "if I made a story, I would make everyone not have souls" to which the only answer was "Ok dude but if you want to make a point of characters not having souls, then you need to make a character that has at least 1 soul attack in order to demonstrate it, and the existance of said attack would mean that there should be a soul somewhere to use it on, and that beats the purpose of doing the souless thing in the first place" you dont really need omnipotence to be a god, all you need is to be powerful *enough*, you can create houses out of nowhere? congrats, you're a god

As entertaining as it is. Nothing is new. Even my own flesh is but a glass in time. That's why I test out fiction. If it's written properly and not filled with plot armor just because an author is being overzealous about it. Reality can see through that. As I can... (Maybe to you. These devils are strong. It's just interesting because what really is really scary? Like what the hell is fear to begin with? I like how this guy explains fear through psychological interpretations and psychological studies but it's the philosophical part (that potential ties with psychology) that is really interesting. Are you afraid? Or is it the subconscious that's afraid? Now both you and your subconscious are interlinked but it's the fact that both you and the subconscious are like different entities in a way. Fears are only "fearsome" because literally of the experience you...well, experienced. But that taps in heavily with the subconscious more than yourself. There's literal studies and scientific interpretations out there that like, your brain acts like a different being than your own being despite it living inside of you. It has been kinda shown that your subconscious mind makes up the decisions you will do before you even do them. Let alone proceed to have the thought of them. Are these devils really out here because you fear them? Or because your subconscious fears them? Possibly unrealistic by me saying stuff like "your subconscious is a different being" but as I said before, its kinda interpreted by experts who studied this kind of stuff like neurology and psychology. Philosophically speaking atleast, CSM literally runs off the assumption that we (our true selves) are afraid of these things and nothing else. Assuming we are afraid as I said.

What is real could be deemed truly real, I don't think my subconscious has simulated my reality or whatever. If my subconscious created my reality, I would atleast see "glitches" or such in said reality like how people could have foggy memories of moments they experienced but they can't fully click it you know? that's fine. In some aspects sure but I doubt I captured what solipsism is really about. That's more like questioning reality and the externality of reality and the world. Not really what I said to be honest. I was saying that your subconscious is technically the one that feels these things, not you. These devils exist because humans constitute their existence. If nobody is afraid then what the hell is a devil to begin with right? Or is it your subconscious? Nobody is scared of water...until they start drowning. You consciously know drinking water is fine but when you're in a near death situation, that's when your subconscious taps in and tells you "hey start panicking" that's fear. You aren't afraid but your subconscious is. I know I can be really confusing but I try to be elaborate you know? But as I type this, I do understand why you mentioned solipsism. I mean, are these devils even real? How can they exist if I'm not truly afraid? Are they simply the illusions of my subconscious's fear? Obviously what I say isn't applicable to reality, but it's a thought experiment to think about.

Is fire scary intrinsically? Or is it the pain that comes with it scary? Kinda complex when you think about fears even on a psychological level. Fire isn't scary. I guess it's scary how it could burn down things and such but fire itself can't be fearsome, it's just a thing that happens when there's a "fuel" source present but...is that fuel source more "fearsome" than its creation which is fire? When you look at flammable products like some hair spray, you aren't saying things like "omg that's scary" you might be worried but not scared perse. Is smoke scary? Despite it coming from fire? I mean it constricts oxygen flow to us when it's present but is it scary? Despite it coming from fire? Not really right? I don't wanna go extremely in depth but I hope you see my point.

A hammer is also “only a chunk of metal with kinetic energy”, and yet the damage and gore it can do to organic body is tremendous. Difference is that bullets (impact kinetic energy) comes and go, whereas injection of kinetic energy (being burned, temperature) will NOT cease. Your body will be used AS ammunition against itself, with your cells bursting (water within vaporizes and escapes), your nerves scolding and that blob of fat you call a brain melting away, in the most agonizing way possible. And once the “only kinetic energy” entered your body…. That is it. It is not going away, not leaving your body, even if you cease the contact with the fire source. The temperature will keep on boiling you from inside, and there is nothing you can do about it, but waiting and taking it. Burn will continue on, even if other conventional weapons can stop hammering on you. Temperature is THE fear, even if your brain tries to convince you otherwise. But once your flesh gets set on fire, you will quickly retract that statement. I just sincerely wish that nothing along those lines EVER happens to you, because fire wounds ARE the most painful there are, since nerves get overwhelmed by constant sharp stimuli as they burn themselves.

I would say Isolation and Betrayal are the same as Separation. And being Cold is being in Pain. And the Fear of the Unknown is the same as the Fear of Darkness, because that is why people are scared of the Dark, because you don't know what could be out there. Got a little bit of work to do on your list. Good job though Many of the devils are Umbrella terms so-to-speak. A big, strong devil could actually be the devil to many things related to that fear, but then you have some devils like The Tomato Devil where it's kind of obvious what caused it. And as for the fire thing... Think of how many villages and civilisations fell to fire, be it an invading nation, or natural disaster. I would say more people fear fire than they love it. Not to mention the number of kids who burn themselves on a hot stove, or on any sort of fire related thing and grow to fear even a matchstick burning.

Yeah that second sentence makes no sense. That would apply to every fear ever. Death is an inherent fear to life itself. Also, it was already stated to be a primal fear a couple chapters ago, so the theory is already debunked.

As a baby you don’t fear death, it is something you learn overtime when you learn the dangers of the world as well. Baby’s do have the natural fear of being forgotten (left alone) though.

In the sense that we would simply live sun up to sun down and it would seem SOOOOOOOO much longer to inevitable death. Imagine not counting down the days until you graduate, until you have that business meeting, calculating what you can do in order to get enough sleep for the next day, so on and so forth. I see it as when you have a sickness, you are totally fine _until_ you go to a doctor and learn you have that sickness, they tell you what to expect, and all of a sudden those symptoms begin appearing. Death is the sickness, and time is the symptom. Something like that. And they try to make you think money is the cure, the way to actually live.

You could say Death Devil and the 4 different version of life after death were primal fear devils, But after Pochita ate the 4 different version of life after death devils, everyone fear death now. So even if Death Devil wasn't a primal devil at first, he would eventually transcends humanity, due to Pochita action.

Here me out for a minute. The way how the CSM story is progressing, it making it that Pochita isn't a primal devil, Death Devil is primal devil and will be an side or main antagonist in the future. (Similar to Reze or Makima) When you reread the manga, Pingtsi said that there are many Primal Devils that are watching them in hell and then Darkness Devil come out and meet them. (This means that there are more than 1 primal devils in hell) Pingtsi also stated that Primal Devils are devils that transcends humanity & never die once. So, I think if a devil get enough power by fear, they can transcends humanity and become a Primal Devils. Pochita ate many unique devils in hell, and you can pin point the timeline of the story by Makima & Yoru statements. Pochita first came to hell through a door, he kill many devils and then we see a panel of Pochita standing on devils bodies and eating a devil. So the devils that Pochita is eating in the panel is one of the erase devils. After Pochita ate every devils Makima listed, (Not including World War, World War 2 & Nuclear weapons devil) Makima said she was far away in hell, watching those devils fighting against Pochita. After a huge time period, Death Devil got a huge power up, due to Pochita eating the 4 different version of life after devils. She then transcends humanity and asked her sisters to fight along side her to kill Pochita. Then fought for a long period of time, because Yoru stated that No matter how many times they killed Pochita, he always come back to life and Makima also stated that she won against him 2 times in the Control Devil Arc. (1st time during hell and 2nd time in Control Devil Arc) Pochita ate parts of War Devil, (World War, WW2 & Nuclear weapons devils) Killed Makima 20+ times in hell, barely survived during that encounter against Death Devil and came to earth. Note: During the Pochita invasion in hell, we can speculated that Pochita never went up against any Primal Devils (outside of Death Devil) Present time now. Fami knows about the full capacities of Pochita strength and she said that even if she, War Devil, Pochita & Nayuta goes against this King of Hell, they won't stand a chance against him. So inclusion, Even if Pochita is somehow a primal devil, he doesn't stand a chance against DD, Death Devil & King of Hell. Death Devil is a primal devil and she either follows the King of Hell or she's the King of Hell & Fami also follows the King of Hell but she's a double agent. One more thing, you guys remember how Makima stated that she's gonna use Pochita powers and erase her sisters alone and she would be glad if Pochita eats and erase her. (Death, War and Fami) She didn't even include any primal devils in her statement. So this might give us a hint that King of Hell is Death Devil. Edit: My English is bad

As far as the Devils go in Chainsaw Man. They seem weak to me. Even the 4 Primal Devils. Granted... I am the Nothingness and I am Existence. I've yet to face another to whom omnipotence cannot bind. In other words, if I was in Chainsaw Main, then my arrival is simply a bad omen. "Harbinger of the End", as the Makers would warn of. Both Hell and its Earth will inevitably face my armada... To face me, in my proper appearance, rather than in my mortal shell. Every Devil is linked to Mankind. "I" am not.
