Obituary played with Agnostic Front in 1992 with Malevolent Creation and Cannibal Corpse supporting. So, this is not the first time for them. Also, Dying Fetus's fanbase has always crossed over to the NY hard-core crowd since day one. Suicidal Tendencies started off as hardcore and so did DRI. As long as it's real hard-core like Terror or AF and not "emo kid RAWXD hardcore", it's fine in my book. Hard-core does not always mean emo douche canoe.

I know this year Cannibal Corpse are playing a huge arena here in Portland (opening for Amon Amarth!). The first time I saw Cannibal was in a tiny club with maybe 200 people. Death Metal is big business now and becoming more commercial every day. Sad but true.

The new Fetus is a banger, i see a lot of people shitting on them but if you forget their past stuff and listen with an open mind that stuff is killer for being in the scene for so long. They admit to doing crossover shows to expand the audience, i imagine most bands in that position would. Except for King playing at the Bowling Alley but he is a rare bird!

Recommendation of the day - check out the song "Witch's Dance" by INTERCEPTOR. They're a new band from South Carolina who sound just like early VENOM. They capture that style perfectly - HIGHLY Recommended! (Plus - look at their Metal Archives page - their image TOTALLY fits the bill!)

Attacker are awesome, I think the Dawg will like them for sure! I think it's helpful to know the "US Power Metal" tag. I mean yeah - they're "Heavy Metal", but if you just go by that term you can end up with a ton of canoe sh!t. If you narrow it down to US Power Metal you get stuff like Attacker, Jag Panzer, Omen, Helstar, Savatage. Heavy Metal with more SACK in the ATTACK! For this purpose - I think USPM is a very worthwhile term to use!

Trust me Fetus & Obituary are definitely not getting paid anymore for those hardcore fests than they would for their own shows or metal festivals, so they gotta be doing it because they do have real passion & or respect for hardcore. The non-punk style of hardcore like bands like Terror & the vocalists older band Buried Alive are heavier than 99% of thrash bands out there, it’s not some pussy shit even if the sound isn’t your thing. Also it’s not like hardcore fans are some posers when it comes to metal & death metal either, the dudes in all the bands are always talking about the same types of metal bands as J Dawg does. Almost Every hardcore kid/dude nowadays loves death metal just as much as hardcore, the crossover is at a higher rate than it’s ever been because there’s a lot more similarities between death metal/slam & hardcore (especially when it comes to breakdowns) than a lot of metal elitists would like to believe. & because of that similarity they can hardcore Mosh to those death metal & slam bands the same way they do to hardcore bands so they really do appreciate the music just as much as Metalheads

Enemy of the music business is a great album and was ND not only being grind again but them trying to sound as extreme as possible while doing it which is what ND supposed to be. I remember being a young teen in middle school and upon discovering Napalm thinking "who is more extreme than this band?" Granted I wasn't super into death metal at the time and had just recently gotten into metal and punk but I do still think their good stuff is some of the most extreme sounding . That being said idk wtf Barney is doing making songs with that shit escuela grind band and he even sounds like he's trying to copy their singers vocals which is bizarre considering Barney and is voice are iconic.
