I do that with reading sometimes too, feeling guilty about not reading one book I have started but for me, if I change books it's even harder for me to go back

Dead seagulls on the roof and children running free. Ah, British Summertime. Why Did You Stay sounds like a must read. I like the sound of New Animal and love Australian lit, so need to get to that one. Fab video as always.

I read a lot of books in July, but nothing that really knocked my socks off. The Overstory has been on my shelf for years, and I really need to get to it. Maybe I'll try listening to it.I did just finish Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley, so technically it's an August read - but it's brilliant, and I really think you'll love it too. One of my faves so far this year.

The Appeal was just so good. I liked the Twyford Code too, but not as much as The Appeal. She is an auto read for me now. My favorite July read was We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker. I really liked The Overstory. It is too long though. Also, if you are writing a book about how we need to protect the trees why are we printing it? So much paper used. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Sent you an IG message about your sticker.

Overstory was great on audio. It would be good to listen to while at gym. The best books I’ve read in July are Tresspasses by Louise Kennedy After The Parade by Lori Ostlund Lessons In Chemistry The Trees Take My Hand

I struggled so much with the ending of The Twyford Code… I’m still not sure I understand what went down 😂 The Appeal, however, I adored. Going to have to pick up Why Did You Stay? Didn’t even know it was a thing but I’m all for Strictly drama 👏🏻

I'm intimidated to read The Overstory because of how everyone has talked it up. "I like trees, they seem cool."😂I was so excited to see New Animal in the thumbnail! I absolutely loved New Animal. I've struggled with my own grief and in the process of not dealing with it, like Amelia, I found myself in running into situations and people I normally would have run away from. The ending with the final body she's attending to in the novel made me weep. I read New Animal back in february and I've pulled it off my shelf at least once a week to refer back to certain scenes and lines. I don't think the BDSM bit was suppose to be a focus in a sexual way. I don't know how else to explain it. The final body she attends to at the end of the novel brings back some of the BDSM elements, "How would she like to be right now? A body will tell you..." That echoes some of what the women at the BDSM place were telling her, in how a Dominate should anticipate their Submissive's wants and needs. And you see it through every body she attends to throughout the novel. I also think it went to extremes with how she tried to outrun her grief because it wasn't just the grief of her mother's death she was dealing with but the undealt grief of all the death she has seen. As much as I adore New Animal, I definitely see where it will not be everyone's cup of tea.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Agree with a lot of what you’ve said. The writing on grief was exceptional and Agree the final pages were emotional

Oh, I like your cover for New Animal much more than the American one. Ours is boring. I need to read the Twyford Code, I liked The Appeal, but I was worried that the new one would be too British for me to get the references.
@GKReads
@GKReads 2 года назад
I think you’ll be ok with Twyford code as all the British references aren’t really real anyway!

@@GKReads Thanks for the reply! I like mainly lit fiction like Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry, Ann Patchett’s books, Anne Tyler, Jo Ann Beard, Richard Ford’s short stories, Elmore Leonard, Olivia Laing and I love essay collections and non fiction/investigative journalism books. A mix of most writing tbh. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
