This is based on a true story. The patient gloria ramirez suffering from cervical cancer had been taking dimethyl sulfoxide for pain . And it turned in dimethyl sulfate which was toxic . 23 doctors + staff fainted in which 5 were hospitalized. She died after 45 mins due to kidney failure but it made alot of people ill
It isn't that. Someone put fentanyl on their masks. Very unrealistic depiction of that, but nonetheless. The story from grey's is more similar to the real Ramirez story
@@velcro-is-a-rip-offyeah but every show does their own version of "the toxic lady" like another person said, even if not exact. But how did the guy who just entered get fenty in his mask too?
In California, when I was in college, there was a news report of a woman with cancer that had crystals in her blood. When the ED staff pricked her skin for blood draws and IV, this happened. Quarantined the ED and shut it down. The 2nd ED that had to treat the ones transported from the 1st ED complained of the same thing happening to the 2 wave of help from the 1st staff that treated and passed out. Later they tried to recreate the blood issue in a lab but the used fresh blood and not end stage cancer blood from a really compromised patient. The OTC items she had been using plus the meds that were not clearing out of her system due to renal failure created a perfect storm on her blood creating a toxic gas released when the skin broke. Gloria Ramirez Feb 1994 California. Wikipedia. Look it up. It happened. What is not reported is the staff that passed out also has crystals in their blood draws post exposure.
It happened in Riverside California. At Riverside General Hospital. The hospital was shut down ASAP. Patients transferred immediately to other facilities, all windows on ground and 2nd floors boarded over. It took about a year before the CDC considered it safe enough for crews to enter and start demo. They never did say exactly what caused her death. That scared the you know what out of Riverside! PS: I think 1 of the Dr’s also died
My mind immediately went to the case of the Toxic Lady. It was a very horrible and tragic accident for everyone involved, including the patient in question. The woman had been diagnosed with cervical cancer a while back and had very little chance of recovery. She had a husband and two kids who she didn’t want to leave behind, so she started trying every single treatment and home remedy she could find. One of them involved putting this gel on her skin. The gel contained a harmful chemical (I don’t remember what it was called) that created a toxic gas when it was mixed with the medicine in the hospital and exposed to air. The whole incident was a tragic accident that resulted from the desperate actions a dying mother who was desperately trying to save herself from cancer so she could be with her family for even a little longer.
Sinopses: The Patient Zero for a sleep paralysis toxin entered the ER with a shard of glass in his stomach, when reaching the OR, after the cut the Paralysis Toxin got spread in the room, so the doctors had to operate in hazmat suits to prevent the spread
It’s kinda insane how doctors only rely on surgical masks and sometimes face shields to protect them from infection. I’d assume they’d always use something crazy like hazmat suits but hey I’m not a doctor

@@rebekahweber2413 wow, I can't imagine the pain that she was in... Because, if the meds can't "run" in the system that's cause more pain and strong smell coming from her insides
Spoiler alert: there was a transplant patient who could not get their transplant because they had a major infection. The grandson was not happy and decided to put fentanyl on surgical scrubs, the vents in the operating room, and surgical masks masks. That's why everyone collapsed because of the fentanyl.
I thought it was a gas released from the person they're working ons blood? It's possible. Happened from a lady in CA before. Someone actually posted the whole thing in these comments.
Didn’t this happen irl? Where a woman had something wrong with her and her body produced a horrid smelling gas that was toxic enough to knock out everyone in the room with her?
That actually happened at the pet clinic where my daughter works. But in that case, mainly the assistants were affected because they were closer to the machinery.
My father-in-law had back surgery. My cousin was the surgery nurse. She said when the doctor made the incision the opening flashed and spores came out of the wound. He died immediately. They sealed the room. After 2 hours they were able to remove them one by one. She died a year later, at the age of 38 with lung cancer, never smoked. He had , had cancer, prostrate. Treated and cancer free for 3 years. We all believed it was from the surgery she attended. They made the family have a closed casket. The funeral director told us he was placed in a sealed container for burial. Very secret.
