The day you'll let Yuna be whoever she wants to be without policing her or shaming her is the day we'll have peace. Also I want to point out that clothes are not sexual. They're not an invitation to think sexually of someone. If you see a 10 year old wearing shorts and think it's innapropriate then you're the problem. Same goes for a teenager wearing crop tops and shorts. You're the problem not the clothes or what the teens are wearing.

I've been a Yuna stan for a while now and you people don't understand how much damage the so called "protective" fans are doing to her. Yuna is one of the most confident and self loving idol I've seen in a while in kpop. She knows who she is, she loves herself, she's not insecure and stuff and you can tell how comfortable she is in front of cameras, on stage and everything. She was really born to be on stage. Itzy call her their confidence for a reason. And she's also really into fashion and glamorous, she loves being pretty and looking good and performing well. So many people keep telling her in comments in her vlives that they don't want her to grow up and be an adult and they want her to be cutesy and still be the cute baby maknae. Do you know what this does for her? I have never seen her be this insecure as she has been lately especially after she turned 18. She really doesn't know what to do cuz she wants to act however she wants but people want her to be innocent and act like a baby You people need to leave her alone. And as for the black dress it's so ridiculous. It's literally clothes and every teenager wears this type of clothes. And it's clear that she loves that clothes

The biggest problem is that these idols don't even know the company is sexualizing them. In Stellar's post-disband interview, one of the members said she wasn't aware of how sexual some of the outfits or scenes were until they were released. By then, the damage was already done. In ITZY's case, blatant sexualization is covered under the guise of 'girl crush". Yuna might not be aware she comes off as sexual.

The companies know exactly what they're doing. Just because it may seem more "subtle" than with Suzy or Tzuyu in the past doesn't make it 100% okay in my opinion. I find it unsettling how the stylist - or whoever makes these choices in the company, they're ADULTS - dresses an underaged idol like that. That's the difference between "normal" teens and teen idols, normal teens always choose themselves what they want to wear and then go and hang out with their friends, see a movie and stuff. While teen idols have to wear whatever they are given + they have to perform in these outfits while being recorded from every single angle at all times and getting aired infront of millions. So I don't think that's really comparable since a lot of people love to use this example "other teens dress like that as well". Btw I'm not talking about the normal shorts and crop tops she often wears but the outfits that were only bustiers, corsets, had cleavage or were the shortest, tightest bodysuits that really didn't look like the only minor of the group needed to wear it. Also young idols and also rookies don't have a say in what they wear. Since they're pretty young or new in the game and don't want to be labelled as "hard to work with" or "picky". So even if Yuna was uncomfortable at some point, she most likely wouldn't have voiced it out loud. That's just a senior/eldery respect thing of their culture that we may not get. I suggest you all to check out soobeanie, she used to be a kpop idol and talks a lot about this stuff and how the industry actually works. Btw Yuna seemed to be super professional ever since she debuted with only 15 and as harsh as it sounds but it's her job so she's maybe trying to not show that she's uncomfortable with some choices. For example, in one of their videos (I see Itzy Ep. 22) the camera was on Yeji and Ryujin talking, Yuna appeared in the background grabbing her chest, trying to adjust her bralette top not looking to happy - until she noticed that she got in the frame and recorded as well and then suddenly started smiling and waving happily at the camera. Just a thought, we don't know anything and maybe she is totally okay with most things. I just don't trust most companies and especially not JYPE with their messed up history with teen idols, I think so called "fans" AND the companies are at fault. It's true, people probably will always behave gross but you could at least try to protect your young idols and not feed into this problem and make profit of it like most agencies do - but I guess that's what sells and counts in an industry. I've seen quite a lot (especially older) kpop fans saying they don't want to stan Itzy because of how Yuna gets managed and portrayed and I honestly can understand that. Omg sorry this turned out to be a whole essay lmao I just wanted to share my overall thoughts.

i really like the way that you cover both sides of an argument and then give your perspective! the thing i find most problematic about yuna's image (her image, not yuna as an actual person) is the way that she is somehow presented as sexy but childlike. like in the loco mv, she was wearing this big frilly (and quite short) dress and posing in front of a teddy bear. there's something really disconcerting about that for me. anyway, i loved the video, and thank you for making it! :)

I feel the same, the problem is not the outfit as it is unless there is one from a korean point of view (which I don't have since I'm not Korean or Asian), it's the sexualitation as a whole. Like the whole picture is her being cutesy with the bunny and the angel wings (even tho I'm aware of the chainsaw) and then you see her with the leather outfit and the back twerking(? (I don't think is twerking but I don't know how to call it) as a minor, in those places you can see how they are playing their cards
@dotcom3015
@dotcom3015 2 года назад
Honestly, the overlying issue might be that minors shouldn’t debut at all. Sure, teens should be allowed to wear revealing clothes if they want but someone else should not be making money off of it. If adults are the ones picking revealing outfits for minors, then that’s where it’s weird. I know these kids truly dream being an idol, but I wish they were gatekept out of the industry. I never understood the praise for spending their childhood as a trainee for a full blown career that only lasts seven years, when I don’t think they should have been there in the first place. No one should really have to deal with the over sexualization, strict diets, the public scrutiny, but you can’t really stop adults from joining the industry. Not debuting kids would be the safest solution but minor idols are too profitable for that to be plausible. So maybe the most respectful thing the (adult) audience can do is not have opinions on minors unless they’re in danger or act problematic. Thirteen year fans get a lot of flack for thirsting over idols, and while it’s uncomfortable, I can imagine they would act similarly with boys in their school. It would be more of red flag for adults to interact with teens on their Instagram unless they’re family. Minor idols might have to be left to the minor fans, and adults shouldn’t be so insistent on what does or doesn’t make the idols uncomfortable.

Great point. I’m personally uncomfortable with the practice of idols training in middle school, debuting in highschool, and getting moderately successful in the middle of their career when they are 20. The industry seems to deem anyone over 22 as too “old” to be a star, which is interesting.

I agree with all but one point you made. I do think there’s a difference between her wearing a crop top and short skirt herself vs the stylist giving her the same outfit because one is off stage while the latter is on stage. Imagine yourself (I think you’re an adult) wearing a skirt and crop top with a cutout slightly below your collarbones (like the white one she was wearing) and walking outside. This is totally fine right? Now imagine yourself being on stage where there’s an audience lower than you and all of them are recording you from below while you’re wearing the same outfit. Isn’t that an entire different story not to mention that shorts and skirts are shorter that the safety shorts and even those do expose idols' cheeks. So yeah the "she wears the same things when she’s only walking on the street so it’s totally fine for her to wear the same things while dancing above ppl who are filming her from below" doesn’t make sense to me there’re outfits that are perfect for one occasion but inappropriate for another and that’s how I see this situation. Look at Joy that you also mentioned she has no problem with mini skirts and short dresses bc she wears them on Instagram all the time but she has a problem when she’s wearing them on stage. And about Yuna not being visibly uncomfortable ever seen the video when JYP chewed ITZY out for being slightly off sync? Do you think he wouldn’t do that if he saw her making faces that show her feelings? We knew years later that Momo was scared that she’ll die bc of JYP so no I don’t trust that man and his company. And uncle again only bc an outfit is worn on the street it doesn’t mean it’s appropriate to be worn on stage. And while this video is about Yuna I do agree that other idols should have longer outfits especially shorts and skirts bc the safety shorts shouldn’t be seen all the damn time but especially minors. Opps story for the essay😱

this is going to be long but here are a few points - 11:02 these types of outfits are normal for teens, crop tops and shorts are normal. but what i personally find too much were the times that yuna as the only minor got the outfits that included cleavage and push up bras, often the shortest and tightest ones with weird cut outs and leather/latex material - while the other members haven't. like it's obviously not a coincidence that the youngest got to wear this stuff when all 4 other members were adults already. sorry but i don't think it's appropriate making a 15 year old performing in only a bralette on stage like in their icy era, leather bodysuits that barely go over the butt during itzy's concert in la and wannabe era, corsets while others get a normal tops etc. also it's important that you included differen cultures because that's also a point, the main backlash for her loco outfit first started in south korea where a lot of news articles wrote about it. just cause it's "normal" or "okay" in idk the us or somewhere in europe doesn't mean it's in south korea. while wearing short clothes is normal there, showing cleavage is still considered risky or not it even for adults. it made itzy's stylist and yuna look bad when it comes to their reputation (when their national popularity already is going down as well). btw same with tops that expose your whole back, yuna wore one outfit (for loco promotions as well) that has shown her whole back, itzy re-uses outfits and the next time we saw her in that outfit it suddenfly included another black shirt underneath it to cover up her back - so either the stylist reacted to all the backlash after all the time or yuna herself said she isn't comfortable, we'll never know. i found it interesting to mention though since they normally don't change anything on their outfits after situations like these. lastly - i feel conflicted about this whole discussion because multiple idols (like sunmi or hyuna just for example) themselves said that looking back on their earlier years in the industry they didn't know any better when they were teens or young adults. and that they only realized how wrong or inappropriate things were when they got in their 20's. because they got kinda manipulated into thinking that certain things are normal back when they were teens and more influenceable since they weren't fully developed yet. so we'll never know what yuna really thinks or how she feels about all this stuff and maybe she doesn't know better - this is not an accusation but a fact that teens and even young adults sometimes just aren't able to see things how they really are yet since they're not completey matured.

Just like Miley Cyrus once said, "You're thinking about it more than I did". If we are talking about oversexualization, then let's also talk about fans who ask idols to 'button up their shirt' on lives. She's living her life like any other 17yr old. And discovering her style and femininity at her own pace. Unfortunately, people cannot accept the fact that women would WANT to be sexual beings. That's often shamed and demonised. As if you are an intrinsically bad person for not wanting to be a child anymore.

you can be sexual as a woman, however when that is not your "usual" go to (obviously we don't know these idols so who's to say behind the camera that's "not" what they like?) people freak out and ask questions. it's normal for society to make little girls grow up quickly or feel like they HAVE to be sexual in some way to fit into the male gaze most of society around the world faces. No body hair - Male Gaze Slim waist - Male Gaze Has to be curvy - Male Gaze Needs to show some skin - Male Gaze No pimples or Acne - Male Gaze I could go on and on. But yea in general it's normal for women to be turned into sexual beings especially if an older man is in the equation and I personally feel like thats why (if not apart of why) so many people (kpop fans or not) freak out about these situations. Finally! I was really anticipating this video. I'm often confused on the whole oversexulization accusation. Yes, JYPE has a questionable history with minors, but that shouldn't be the only ground stand on. Alot of people love to Scream at the Outfits given to Yuna because they have short shorts, or generally short stuff, wich is wierd. With the concept Itzy is going for, teen crush, they are going to dress them like teens. And teens wear shorts stuff, that's what teens wear. It seems it's very common for teens to wear crop tops and shorts, as you said. On the other side she is public figure and should be careful, even tho it sucks she needs to look out. I feel right now Yuna is on the edge. She isn't oversexulized yet, but it could easily trip over if JYPE does one wrong move.

Yeah like, obvs I want idols to be protected and will agree for calls to protect them but I feel like the “oversexualisation” argument barely applies to Itzy’s clothing, Yuna included. They dress in uniforms, tank tops/trousers and favor shorts over skirts most of the time. Maybe I’m just drastically missing something, but Itzy still wear like,, tutu skirts. I don’t feel they’re anywhere near inappropriate territory. Either way, if Yuna is even a bit uncomfortable with anything she’s asked to wear or do JYP should be pressured like crazy not to force her.

The "speaking on the idol behalf" argument is the one that gets me the most, like you said is quite visible when an Idol is uncomfortable with their outfits, aka Irene in that one performance of red flavor were she kept pulling her dress down and her dance looked restrickted, or nayeon at one fan singn during dance the night away era were she kept hiding her clevege with her hair and gifts, so of course there are situations that the idols are uncomfortable with their outfits but fans sometimes take this to another level, the idol is there wearing a more risqué outfit and there is always one comment saying that certain idol looks uncomfortable, but when you go look it up the idol is acting normaly, and you can't even point that they look fine because the fans will come after you saying how they're just being professional and it's CLEAR that they are uncomfortable... like at this point you're just putting words in their mouth, momo from twice as an exemple, ever since I can't stop me she's been using this kind of """leotard""" is a little longer than a leotard but I think that's the concept the stylist was going for, in ALL the stages Momo looked fine but a lot of fans started calling out their stylists for giving her "uncomfortable outfits" and that she's just keeping the façade because she's really professional. Or, still with twice, their latest comeback have a part in the choreography were they kind of shake their lower body, it looks like they have mini eartgquackes under each member, and I saw a lot of fans saying that the move was ackward and the girls were clearly uncomfortable doing it, and at this point I'm like... hun maybe you are projecting your own dislike with the certain move or outfit into the idols, because they do not look uncomfortable there...

Egu, if possible, can you make a video of LGBTQ+ fanservice? Here my thoughts on it. I often feel that wow look __ idol is so attractive of my same gender. But when a certain individual is uncomfortable doing it, is it still okay? For example, sua and jiu from dreamcatcher wore revealing clothes, okay, but people didn't care, why? Cause the other girl members were touching their bare back and calling them 'gay'. Is it really okay if a person comfortability is questioned? For example, jeongyeon, didn't wanna have short hair but she had to wear it and act boyish as her role was the girl crush. But when she embraced her real style, people bashed her saying she was fake or she wasn't attractive? Moonbyul didn't wanted to be called 'oppa' or 'daddy' but she was still called and shipped with solar? She prefers comfortable clothes that doesn't reveal her skin, but to determine she was gay? I don't think so. Also for example,when Sana is being affectionate to her members like hugging and kissing them, is this real proof of her being gay? No she is just being Sana, she isn't doing fanservice. Is gay fanservice really needed for every group? For example, Lisa and Jennie are very close with each other, but they do questionable things on stage to appear gay or to tease each other? Loona ultimately was known, for their ships. Some groups are known just for being the 'gay group'. Also some idols had to attempt to kiss each other for fanservice? Is this okay or if it isn't? Also in that one interview of blackpink, Lisa did touch Jennie very much or is it just fanservice? Did they have to give such answers to prove they are gay? @tae tae love yes exactly, as I said in Sana case. Also nowdays, friendship isn't even normalised. If there are two same gender friends who are close to each other, they are assumed to be gay and the opposite gender friends is also assumed to be in a relationship. What is the need of shipping and realtionship? As for example, my little pony, a kid's show, was assumed to be gay just because they were close friends. There was also this one comic in webtoon where two boys just had problems and had a deep connection with each other, but they were supposedly gay and were sending threats to the creator like y'all really need to have a relationship with them. I can understand shipping but extremely 😬 is a bit

If someone sees miniskirts, crop tops or black leggings as something "sexual" tbh i think it's their problem. If you see a 16 year old wearing a miniskirt or a tennis skirt and the first adjective that comes to your mind to describe her is "sexy" then you are the one that should get help. If a girl won't wear pretty skirts and pretty tops in her teens or young years when will she? Sexy dance moves and sexual lyrics are of course a big no no. But I don't see any problem with her clothes. It is fitting for her age. But I believe that the main problem here is that the idols debuting at a young age. If you are on stage, you are bound to wear some over the top clothes soon or later. And there will be some creepes that will try to take advantage of that UNFORTUNATELY. So, what's the point of debuting these girls at the age of 15-16?? I know this has been a common thing in Kpop for decades. Still it does not justify it. If companies try to debut people after the age of 18-20, then I believe some of the problems can be solved as they are young adults who are aware of what is exactly going on. But when you look at all those 16 year olds, they are just bunch of high school teens who are idealized and expected to be some higher being or something that has to know everything, that has to be woke and knowledgeable and very intellectual. That's not gonna happen.

I have such a huge problem with the Adult Ceremony performances, why do idols have to perform that song when they were still considered children by the general public and law literally days/weeks ago? yeah I feel as tho people are less willing to discuss the sexualisation of enhypen (especially niki and jungwon as super young) because it's a boy group and sexualising of men and boys is generally less acknowledged because it's more taboo and unfamiliar, but niki is genuinely one of the worst cases I've seen of sexualisation in this industry, by both fans and their company he's constantly made hyper sexual. I feel very bad for the boys because they have no standard to compare to of what it means for them to be sexualised, because the textbook was written for women as it's more common with women, and whilst it's good that we can discuss this stuff, sexualisation happens to everyone sadly and we need to support the men in this scenario as well

i think nowadays fans are a lot more protective because of the many issues there were in the past involving minors/barely legal idols. the oversexualisation of hyuna, park jiyoon, tzuyu, wonder girls, suzy, wonyoung, nancy, how stellar were treated and overexploited by their company, how often we have to go above and beyond to stop creeps from sexualizing nct dream, txt and enhypen members...... yeah, i think it stems from how horrifying it got/gets and how quickly & conveniently people are willing to forget that someone is underaged. so instead they fall on the opposite end of the spectrum where they just.... don't see teens as teens anymore, with desires, a sexuality, etc, and just become overbearing, as if they're protecting a 7yo.

Like it or not, what Yuna wears or what kind of dance she performs is part of her job as an idol. Fans certainly cannot police her clothings thinking that they try to ‘protect’ her. Because it always work like a double-sided sword. One example, tight-clothing/crop top, it shows how slick her dance or how talented she is as a dancer. We cannot expect her to wear baggy clothes, for example. People would start to attack her for different reasons (seriously though, people need to calm down and attack others less). So far, I don’t get the impression that she hates her clothes or style (of course, I could be wrong). It is not like blatant hypersexualisation like say, easy example, Stellar. But again, like you said, culture really plays big part here, it is very gray to draw the line between what is ok and what is not okay. To me, the bigger issue itself is actually lies with how much power a company has over an individual artist. How many times as fan we feel frustrated over things that company decide and our idols get the short end of the stick? Or when we see how trainees/idols being verbally abused or being repeatedly told they are not good enough or being starved or being scolded or being forced to do certain things or being prohibited to do what they want to do. Sometimes I think being an idol is such an extreme job, all of us who have started working and our bosses are not even half as controlling as these companies 😅 I digress, but what I was meaning to say is Kpop industry in a whole needs to redistribute the power coz entertainment companies has too much of it now.

I'm only a bit older than her (I was born in 2003) and me and my friends wear similar things. She seems comfortable in it so it's fine. Honethly I think that sexualisation really comes from people more than anything else. Once, I saw a video that really annoyed me. It was a fancam of Yuna. Idk what they were performing but she was sitting on a chair and she starded to dance. This alone had noting sexual: the choreo had simples movments, her outfit was pretty normal, she had a short skirt but nothing that should be sexualised, and even tho Yuna is a sensual performer nothing too crazy here. BUT the video was slowed down and zoomed in a very VERY weird way and to some edges it really felt sexual. And the effect was created BY the video ans by some stan that had nothing better to do and don't even get me started with the comment section bellow it. Like all this was so messed up, and that shows that sexualisation is really made by people

honestly, though i am personally iffy about Yuna's choice of outfits i don't think it's that much of a problem for herself. in situations where she goes out in public, she will most likely be freed from stylist's advices, therefore it should be her chance to wear whatever she wants. but she still often wears crop tops or sleeveless tops (sometimes even both); so happens in dance practice videos. unless if she was actually told to keep dressing like that in public, what she's dressed in would be entirely her choice and she's comfortable with it. my problem is with the music and dances. as you said, that one section from Dalla Dalla was unsettling. and there were other stuff that if mentioned individually, sounds like not much of a problem, but it's weird that it happened many times. it's like JYPE and the managers purposely drop veeery tiny clues so it's easy to brush off, but forgets that it can be pretty much obvious once it piles up.
@GleeChan
@GleeChan 2 года назад
I sort of think there is a difference between Tzuyu and Yuna in terms of this topic. Tzuyu, for the most part, tends to not like overly sexy outfits and doesn't dress like that on her own. Her style tastes tend to be more chic or elegant. Yuna, on the other hand, seems pretty comfortable in clothes like that both on and especially off stage. So I think it's a problem when the individual themselves are making it a problem not when Twitter says it is. Sure, companies pressure idols to wear costumes they may not like for stage, but we usually can tell if it's something they'd normally wear when it's their own clothing. Also, I find it odd that people are fine with underaged labor, but when that minor puts on a miniskirt that goes too far. We all know how hard idols work. It's a full-time job, especially if their in a hot group that is constantly doing things. Basically you're asking a child to carry on with an adult's load.... even when most adults don't keep those kinds of hours. All that is perfectly fine, yet seeing her belly button is the end of the world. Yes, exploiting a minor's body is wrong, but... working them to the bone is as well and practically no on bitches about that. I also think it's hypocritical that fans accept the concept of idols being visuals (whether they are the youngest or not), but are against that visual being sexy. Basically that says it's okay to drool over someone's appearance, but not okay to.... drool over that someone's appearance in sexy situations. So where's the logic in that? Your mind is already there, you've already accepted that it's acceptable to marvel at that person's body, but fishnets... no no no. Give me a break. I get there is a difference of admiration and perving, but when you've fine with a whole position solely based on someone's appearance and don't see the contradictory nature of being against sexualization, it's baffling. The k-pop industry is in the entertainment business and will always do what they can to get as much money as possible. Whatever we buy, they sell. So if you don't like it, don't pay for it. Simple. This is a concept Korean fans know all too well and frequently use. It's why their voices are more important than those of the West. Not only is the majority of marketing geared towards Koreans in general, this started off as a product for them, by them. We're just the cherry on top and they don't have to cater to us. We might bitch and complain on Twitter, but we still buy the next album, meanwhile if Korea hates something.they boycott it. Western fans are only valuable to companies because of our money. Our opinions don't matter and the sooner you realize this the easy it is to survive as a K-pop fan. With all that in mind, there is an easy solution to all this. Only debut idols when they are adults. This still won't stop companies from exploiting people who are desperate to be entertainers, but at least it's decision making coming from the mind of a mostly mature person. These trainees are forfeiting a higher education for the chance to debut, and even then it's not guaranteed that their group will catch the public's eye. The least the industry can do is set a rule that dictates that these impressionable people are voting age. Oversexualization is just going to happen, there's no stopping it... it's a universal concept throughout history. With an age rule like this, at least a company isn't profiting from child exploitation, both sexual and labor wise.

I agree that there has to be some sort of middle line... there's a rare chance this will happen (especially on a platforms across the internet). I would say that it's better to be more cautious as an issue rather than it not brought up at all, swinging towards more woke/aware. Best case scenario if the middle line can't be achieved, then at the very least, if these comments really do annoy/bother her, she can speak out about it to defend herself/stylistic preference. However due to the influence and power the companies have over her, it's guaranteed that she won't be allowed to speak up about it if it is the other way around until at the very least her contract expires/free from the company. Her fans complaining are her only safety net/voice if she actually is uncomfortable with it. Also we have to consider ITZY's fanbase, although their songs are girl crush, leaning towards high-teen in some cases for concepts/style, most of their fanbase is older than her (prob 18-25+). Stage outfits aren't her choice, if they were or she does actually like them, then all to her - but they aren't/doesn't like them then it's only feeding her disproportional number of older fans who post thirst edits/vids/imagery (at this point it's about prevention where possible). Once again, although I don't think people should be disparaging the stylist or going to the extreme like how it is now, but it's better to realize this earlier than later (sadly more often than not, celebs come out later in their career to reveal that they weren't comfortable with it way back then which can result in trauma). This is a similar situation when talking about idol's weights (ie if an idol is underweight, should fans be concerned bc of so many have been forced in the past to by their companies to do so or are they losing weight naturally), and a lot of other issues in the entertainment industry, etc...

@MayDawney
@MayDawney 2 года назад
@@brianlittrell797 I'm going to give an extreme example and I am in no way trying to equate Adult Ceremony with it. It's just the mechanics of it that I am trying to point out. Say you grow up getting slapped every night before bed. It's happened every day since you were born. You grow up thinking it's completely normal, yes? Some other friends get slapped before bed too, although not all of your friends. Only a few people in the society around you speak out when it happens when they are nearby, so you have no reason to assume it's anything but normal. People from countries other than yours are more critical, but hey, culture is culture, so it's probably fine. Right? But at its core, slapping anyone, especially a child, is still wrong. Adult Ceremony has become an institution of kpop especially since the dance was invented. It's become a milestone young female idols look forward to, unaware that, at its core, it's problematic. That it's a 'symptom' of something problematic in their society, namely that young female idols especially are s*xualized and that it's often the main selling point of girl groups. Male and Female Gaze are definitely problematic. It represents people as s*xual objects for the pleasure of the viewer. It's disrespectful and dangerous. And there is a huge difference between 'Gaze content' and owning one's s*xuality. For Gahyeon, it's a bit borderline because she wanted to do it and she is happy she did it, but it's also like the example I gave: it's institutionalized as a 'Good Thing' even though, at it's core, it's problematic.

I have seen people call body rolls, popping/locking/isolating the torso in general or the chest specifically (i.e. a chest bump), pretty basic floorwork, and some vogueing movements or poses oversexualization when these are literally beginner-level techniques in their respective styles that anyone of any age will do in those classes. Both styling and choreography can be constructed in such a way that they are seen as being sexy or sexualized, but to figure whether they are in any given case where you can't talk to the person doing the dance or wearing the clothes seems nigh impossible to me with so many possibilities. It isn't like JYP himself is choreographing these songs all the time obviously; in that case is the choreographer told to add "sexy moves," do they naturally use those movements because it's their vibe and musicality, do they know anything about the members, are they trying to make it look sexy whether they know the ages of the members or not, etcetera. Of course this may well be obvious with specific examples from choreographies, but in general it is worth considering these things I think.

Oh my gosh, I remember that ad of Tzuyu. I didn’t even look, that was so bad. Poor Tzuyu. 😢 It is true that Yuna wears crop tops though, I didn’t find much of a problem with the loco outfit. In my opinion, I do find some ITZY dance moves awkward, they are a bit too young to be doing those, those dance parts don’t last very long though. I hope JYPE treats their artists better.

This isn't really about Yuna. It's just the fans realizing how much idols are sexualized. A shocker since said fans think Western celebrities are too sexual. It's just them realizing that what they taught was "cute and innocent" wasn't.

I think you’re using the word butcher/butchered incorrectly. When you said butcher the meaning of over sexualization and that you butchered JYP’s history of over sexualizing minors I was confused because to butcher means to explain something badly, poorly or mess up the definition of something. I think you explained everything properly and in great detail as you always do. I love how concise but to the point your videos are and while I don’t always agree with your points, I absolutely love hearing your opinion.

I'm the youngest member of my family and was often wearing shorts because one thing, why wouldn't I when it's hot and second thing, I've always liked wearing shorts. Lately, I wore a leather mini skirt similar in length to the dress Yuna wore during LOCO promotions with shorts underneath. The stares and comments I got from my family, oh boy. And the interesting thing is, I'm 21 and people still kinda treat me as if I was 12 or something with the way I dress. Then, they want me to act my age because 'you're not a baby anymore'. The hypocrisy kinda played with my self-confidence because I just didn't know what should I do. So Yuna simply being the youngest member of her group may be actually the only reason people treat her as if she was a lot younger than she is. This is how I see it basing on my experiences

Yesss I would say that while teens are absolutely allowed to own their own sexuality and be a little sexy or cheeky sometimes (let's be real most of us are at least interested in those things before we come of age), these agencies really need to protect their idols from the predators that are lurking online waiting for content like this to consume legally. And yes you're so right it's the fans that need to chill, both those who sexualize her and those who are overprotective. I think many kpop choreographers really toy that line between girl crush/cute and sexy vibes sometimes, and I feel like minors should not be doing moves that obviously hint as s3x (for instance wonyoung's dance move during the bridge of Eleven made me uncomfy and don't get me started on Produce 101) But p3d0philia is truly SUCH an issue worldwide both in and out of the entertainment industry, that I think the vast majority of minors genuinely shouldn't be able to debut, period. Fame is a lot for anyone to handle, but to spend most of your childhood in practice rooms only to have your body sexualized/shamed/etc by millions of strangers on the internet just isn't the way to go for me. We at least need plenty more protections for these minors to articulate their own personal boundaries without fear of losing their chance at a career.

Honestly I never understood how people find a simple "crop-top" over-sexualising AND would be like "there's many creeps out there, I don't want her to be sexualised" why does she have to change her clothing but not the creeps changing their mind? people will still sexualise hwr even after she becomes an adult, that still isn't right! we need to change those creeps mindset and not what yuna wants to wear

Me at fifteen dancing Paso Doble. . . I don't get the thing about the dance moves. I mean any dancer would be like . . . It's just that are literal seven years old in dance academies who dance more "sensual" than anything itzy ever did. Is like when we danced Carimbó (I'm Brazilian, and Carimbó is one of the many many typical dances of the country, this one specifically is from the north region and has nothing to do with samba, wich by the way I don't dance neither like) anyway, we danced carimbó, we were like 9 and it's a sensual dance our headmistress was a strong catholic (she was the one who chose the dance) we did it, our parents loved it, she came after our throats because it was too sensual of a presentation and we should have toned it down. It was in that day we decided she was crazy. It's just, is dancing, we give everything we got to do it properly, you're not gonna dance tango blandly just because your too young, if you're there your parents and you took it to consideration, and if it's too much for you, then get out. (I'm only talking about the dancing, clothing is a whole other thing and wasn't included in here).

I’ve seen so much comments calling Yuna a *baby* & that’s she shouldn’t wear that cause she’s a little baby and doesn’t know what she’s doing 😭 Like wtf? Cringe as hell & how you calling a whole grown ass person a baby? There’s people who are literally the same age as her in the west that will wear the exact same stuff as her but you’ll never see comments infantilizing them.
