i would be more excited and impressed to see a build of a 1A then the original. So many people make the original when its not as good.

It'd be nice if more people loved it!

The Auto Collection agreed the only thing I dislike about the 1A is the placement of that white big canister on the back roof of the car I thought it made the car look too bulky when the roof itself is already overcrowded with equipment. In my opinion they should have’ve just place a siren instead of that big white canister and placing the back siren on top. Other than that I still love the car it gave a new fresh look and ghostbusters II in my opinion is also underrated a good sequel to a great film.

I like both Ecto 1 and Ecto 1a I like to think they are two different cars they have the original Ecto 1 in storage somewhere in the second film, I think it was appropriate for the second movie to have a variation but I would be disappointed if the 1a did not make a cameo appearance in Afterlife.

That car is my favorite.

That's what I love it about, the over-the-top roof rack, Christmas lights for days, the NASCAR style graphics and white letter tires...

@@TheAutoCollection Tires we can agree on. Always prefer letters to white walls. It's one of the things I always did love about this particular version. Especially the shot of it parked in front of the firehouse at night. Looks its best there.

@@WOLVERINE25TH yea. I do like the ecto 1a better than the ecto 1 in my opinion. But one thing i hate is the logo. The gb2 makes sense for the marketing and stuff but not for the car.

​@@demonbusteroffical4011 A while ago I read a fan explanation that the new logo may have been for a legal reason within universe. I can't remember the exact explanation, but it was along the lines of while technically it was the same business they had to reincorporate it a different way because of the lawsuits. So, new logo, possibly new official name (GB LLC instead of GB Inc., or whatever). Wish I had saved it and looked into it more from a legal standpoint.

Hate to dash your hopes but Ecto-1A was turned into the Afterlife Ecto-1. If they finally fully restore it for Firehouse, it will likely be as the 1 instead of the 1A. But, who knows--maybe they'll explore GB2 in the sequel.

that was my issue with GB: AL. No mention of ecto 1a even when stantz is talking to the girl he says egon took all our equipment and our last car ecto 1. ecto 1a was the last car. but it is what it is

Actually Ecto1-A WAS featured in Afterlife...It was awaiting restoration at Universal Studios,but was bought and used in the new movie as a Stunt car..It was just restored as Ecto1..

A couple of notes: If you really want to nerd out and get technical (as I did) the smoke coming from the 1 at the beginning is in fact artificial smoke. I did a frame-by-frame and it's pretty clear it's not coming out the exhaust pipe. If you read the novelization of the second movie, it plainly states the 1A is a different car. I've heard many times the anecdote of the car breaking down on the bridge, but it's always the 1A in the anecdote, with the breakdown occurring right after the montage footage was shot.

@@TheAutoCollection okay one, in correct. you're looking at a car on screen and assuming. exhausts rust, and they break. to say "it's not coming directly out of the end of the car, so it's fake" is wholly in correct. what you call anecdotal has been stated as fact by the cast and crew. two, an "novelization" of a film, is a re-writing of the original script, with alterations made to make it better fit the literary medium as opposed to film. meaning details will change, details, will be added, details will be removed. a novelization acts as a related, but standalone product. Ecto-1 is Ecto-1a. no where does it ever say 1a was the car because it was purchased only after the original car gave up the ghost on the Brooklyn Bridge. this is also not the first time the car broke down crossing a bridge. since it also broke down crossing the Manhattan Bridge during filming of the first movie. while the main film crew had moved to LA to continue filming, the second crew remained in New York to film driving scenes. this brings to total to three actual real world cars, the first you see Ray drive up in before it gets repairs... the second started life as a gold ambulance, the third purchased and refit after the second died... because the second was refurbished by Sony to coincide with the 09 game, and was then sold off later. so they had to refit the third car to make an "aged, barn kept, Ecto-1" so in this case, the physical Ecto-1a, became the Ecto-1. initially I assumed it was a fourth car, but double checked and learned Sony merely reused the third.

Obviously I can't screen cap or create a gif to show you here, but 1) there's no smoke coming from the car when it passes the horse in the opening scene. Why not if it's supposedly actual smoke coming from the engine? THEN, immediately after the shot of the car rounding the corner you literally see the smoke stream coming from forward of the exhaust pipe. So, the movies never directly address whether the 1 and 1A are the same car, but you knew that the 1A was called the 2 at one point, right? The novelization is an official, licensed, printed version of the story. The only other publication that addresses this is the Haynes Ectomobile manual. That book, also official, licensed, and printed states it's the same car. So, which is correct? As far as the actual cars themselves, I can tell you all about them. The first car seen was originally used by the Belmont Fire Protection Division, a Chicago suburb until 1981, where a young Roger Bay purchased it. He then leased it to the production company and held on to it until 1988, where it now resides in a private location in southern Illinois. The car that was an ambulance for a local ambulance company that became the 1 Frank Corrente's Cadillac Corner sold to the studio, which still owns it to this day. The third was found in a Salt Lake City Junkyard, purchased by the studio for conversion as the 1A. Both the 1 and 1A were supposed to be restored starting in 2007, spearheaded by Keith Hargrove, but when the studio found out the costs to do both, they pulled the plug on the 1A where it sat disassembled until Jason Reitman repurposed it as one of the THREE cars for the new movie. Yes, three cars: the former 1A, the car owned by a man named Jack Franks who sold it to the studio to become the second running car, and a '61 MM a friend of mine named Rhett Martin donated to the studio which was used it for interior shots. I know you don't know me, but I've spent the better part of a decade doing research specifically on the cars and their histories. When I say the stories are anecdotal, it means they may have happened, but there is nothing to go by except a story.

Correct. It's a shame they just never restored it like I once heard they were going to. So, as of right now, Ecto-1A no longer exists officially.

@@WOLVERINE25TH i agree 1a should've got the same Ecto-1 overhaul but i also understand a Caddy M&M ambulance/hearst combo is no easy thing ti find too so i understand why, beside wasn't 1a involved in a wreck during GB2 filming ?

@@simonr9870 I can't find where it was said, but I believe it was after they finished filming the 1st movie. The article I recall said it was rare to have only 1 car for the production and just as they wrapped a car ran into it.
