The wonderful studio at The University of Texas at Austin performs All the Pretty Little Horses arranged by Danny Cruz, Many thanks to all the Longhorn oboes who play so beautifully!

This beautiful melody has been sited as a lullaby sung by African American slaves in the United States. Though the first reference in musicology was after the civil war. It was set by Aaron Copland in the 20th Century and become one of the few children's songs taught in Minor today. Additionally the melody has had a second life as a Carrol in the UK.

The part that impresses me most is that you found a large enough group of oboe players - and good ones at that - to do this with. I have never seen more than a handful of oboe players at once, if that. In band it was usually a case of you had one and were lucky to have them.

Beautiful! To all of you in the video-please as you get older pick up your oboe and play. Even if you don’t make music your career. I played many many years ago and a few years ago my dear husband bought me a very nice oboe. To my extreme sadness I don’t remember how to play. I bought a beginners book but I’m having a difficult time relearning. I think there is nothing more beautiful than the sound of an oboe.

Very nice ensemble! How many years of studying the oboe to get to a level where you can play in an ensemble like this?

Great question! It prob depends but everyone in the studio has been working hard for 7-10+ years. Keep in mind we rehearsed it and recorded at sight on the same day- so these are total pros… some high school oboists may be able to put something together like this with a lot of rehearsal though, which I would love to do at some point as well 😊
