Okay, so I just pictured the scene before this: Guard: "You boys wanna go fer a walk?" Horse: "WALK?" Other Horses: "WALK?!" Soon enough: "WALKWALK WALK WALKWALK WALK?!" Stablehand: "Bloody hell, why'd you hafta say it, Jon? One word. One word and the entire bloody herd goes bonkers."
About ten years ago, a close friend of mine and fellow horse enthusiast just by pure coincidence happened to be staying at some little B&B or boutique hotel on the street that the Horse Guards exercise their horses down in the morning. As she told the story, it was a very foggy morning and through the open window she heard the clatter of hooves drawing near. She leaned out the window the see emerging from the mist the horse guards trotting past, each rider with two bridled horses in tow. She said that for about 30 seconds she thought she had lost her mind or had been transported back to the 19th century. What a sight that must have been!!!
CaesarInVa it's called watering-order; it goes back to the days when they took the horses to the troughs around London before plumbing; in them days it was 3 times a day. Nowadays just early mornings
I stayed in Regents park many years ago (late 90s) and would hear these horses from time to time. It was like the sound of continuous thunder getting nearer and nearer. They would be in fast canter by the time they passed my hotel.
Theses are cavalry horses used to pull guns etc, all the queens transport horses are black or bay but her personal ones are grey.. This is tradition as many years ago very wealthy people had grey horses to pull there carriages. By having a grey horse meant you could afford to pay many staff to keep the horses looking pearly white.. Hence you where rich.. The queen is only ever in a carriage with grey horses.. Never bay or blk xxx
It is a European custom dating back to Napoleon (at least) that all the horses in a specific regiment match, with the exception sometimes of horses for specific functions. The bays in this video are from the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery. The Household Cavalry all ride black horses with the exception of trumpeters (white horses; a favorite color for trumpeters in many cavalry regiments) and the kettle drummers (piebald draft horses). Spain's royal mounted guard all ride white horses. The Royal Scots Greys rode grey horses. The Windsor Greys are used to draw all the royal carriages, not just the Queen's (at her marriage to Prince Philip, however, her carriage was drawn by dark colored horses); the Windsor Greys have been used thus since Queen Victoria. Having white horses was not a sign of wealth; it took just as much care to tend to a dark horse as it did a white horse; no lord or lady would take a pair of dirty black horses for a spin through Hyde Park. What was important was the quality of the tack, and the horses be a fine, matching set.
Ashley Summerville its actually cheap buying a horse. You can get one from $500. Its actually the up keep that comes with horses that people cant afford.
I wish I could have a horse..... one day I’m gonna go to university, become a vet (but not a vet who will euthanize animals, obviously) get money, and a house, buy a horse, keep it at a barn, eventually get my own stable/ ranch, own lots of horsies, have a house on the farm, and have a mini horse :> As you can see, I dream big, so don’t try and tell me I can’t do that :>
I love that the British military keeps the cavalry tradition alive, if only for the draw that it is for spectators (ESPECIALLY American tourists!). I thoroughly enjoy videos of the Household Cavalry and the Royal Horse Artillery; most impressive. Pity there's no tradition like this in the US.
All the horses are a similar color because they have to be uniform. When serving in parades or on a police force they have to look similar (such as all guards or policemen wear the same outfit)
The King’s Troop horses do not have to be uniform. In fact, individual gun teams are uniform in colour, but each gun team is a slightly different shade of bay. One team is light bay, another is medium bay, etc, and one team is always black, for military and Royal funerals. Again in the King’s Troop, officer’s mounts, or chargers, can be ANY solid colour.
These horses have to be able to cope with the noises and traffic. The artillery horses pull gun carriages and work in teams. Most of the soldiers in the King’s Troop Horse Artillery regiment are women. It’s called the King’s Troop after the Queen’s father, George Vi.
+Mary C (CoCare13) Um no. These are the cavalry and work horses. Its tradition to have black and bays which are known as the common colours to do the work jobs like being a guards horse. Her personal horses that she rides or pulls her carriage will be either white or grey as its tradition.
The cavalry was, of course developed for war. A dark bay with no marking would draw the least unwanted attention, as well as having harder hooves than white or white-marked horses.
@@TheNonMakeupGuru Queen rides fell ponies for pleasure which are usually black, she loves all horses and I don't think there's a colour she hasn't owned including palamino..
That’s just the ones in London working. There are 485 horses in the household cavalry and she has many many more competition horses. Check out half of them on parade: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tYNenlI8oyE.html
piper xavier They are exercised this way in the early morning between 6>30 and 8 am every day before the rush hour traffic starts. Other soldiers are back at the barracks mucking out stalls.
Nobody’s riding them because the job involves leading 2x horse on parades so exercising them in the morning makes perfect sense to do the same. Also they are more horse than soldiers so it’s not possible. They go out at 8:30 till 10 Everyday. Many complain during rush hour, however horses have roamed the streets longer than motorised vehicles soo ….
They may get treated well but having horses on concrete like that damages their joints in their legs, and don't say "that's why they wear shoes" wearing shows damages their hooves. Oh I wasn't just referring to this video in seeing horses in big cities I meant just in general.
Horses hooves are meant to be soft enough to cushion the horses steps when on a in a filed, jumping or hard surface, (which is why you don't do anything over a trot on concrete, no matter having shoes on or not) by putting shoes on your making it so their feet can't do that! They end up with back and leg problems in a few years time. It's like us wearing high heels every 24/7 your feet will hurt after a while won't they?!
+Amber Foster I dont like idiots like you commenting on things they dont understand. You seem to forget horses would do worse to their feet in the wild. They are only shod when they are in work and every six months their shoes are removed and they are let loose for a month break. These horses are not in any danger
Seaira Willams You can’t control a fit large horse on several miles of exercise with a halter. This isn’t a walk from barn to field on your own property.. It’s a safety issue, for horses AND people.
Don't mind at all thanks for asking. Tradition is important in an ancient land. Brings in far more money than it costs. America can keep Harry and his parasite, they're neither use nor ornament!! They fit in with the trashy American culture
@@Misskitty15 Did you watch the recent Royal funeral ? They are traditionally part of military and royal ceremonial And yes, the British public DO enjoy paying for them -they are part of their history.
I wish we knew more about prince philip before his death.i respect him immensely as a human being.when he was younger I thought he was a snob .how wrong was I.if medals and titles deserved to be given to anyone it would be only him .the most humble man I know.r.i.p to our king that's what he was crown or not he was our king so proud of him.thank god he was shielded in his last days from Harry's tantrums and her demands harry you should have abdicated took all your millions the fortune diana left you and queen mother you never mentioned and walked away.as you were a problem as a toddler still are your a parasite sucking everything she wants.you wanted kate.then pippa then chelsea well you got her now be a ZMAN WALK AWAY STOP WHINING.WE GOT OUR MONARCHY AND THEY ALL MAKE US PROUD
Duncan and Nicole Greig The horses do not belong to the queen - they are army horses and owned by the state. HM's privately owned horses are not kept in London.
