A quick run through of all 113 n/zyme factory patches. This is the new wavetable engine from Roland specifically for the Fantom series of keyboards.
This gives the Fantom even more creative power - you can add wavetable to legacy VA and V-Piano engines as well as ZEN-Core all in one scene - or even have 16 wavetable synths in one scene!
Once again Roland proves they are always moving forward :)

Sweet video ! I’m digging this model bank.

Great video. I listened to the entire thing. Shows me how useless this upgrade would be to me. I'm in a cover band. Perhaps some music producer or creator could find a use for these but nearly all or completely useless to me.

This is the thing - sometimes it's good to hear something to rule it out! Glad it was helpful in its own way for you

Might be useless to those who only ever play pre-sets, but use this for what it is capable of in terms of sound design and it's phenomenal. Each unto their own eh?

@@X22GJP Most people probably don't have the patience to learn sound design. But yes you are right. This can make far better sounds if you know what you are doing. I have a waldorf iridium and I love that, but I also have the Roland Fantom 6 and really want to get this expansion model.

I was excited to learn about the new update yesterday and am pleasantly surprised that Roland has decided to use the Fantom as a platform for trying something modern and new (at least for them). I use my F6 as a hub/controller for playing a lot of wavetable softsynths, such as Pigments, Hive and Synthmaster. I think the potential for using these new onboard synthesis methods is fantastic and I'm really looking forward to where it could go. But I have to tell you, I'm underwhelmed by their initial presets released with this update. There are a few gems and some that are just Ok, but about half of them I wouldn't find very useful for anything other than ambient or soundscape stuff. These presets just don't sound nearly as good as the VST wavetable synths mentioned above. And given this $150 update is about the same as the VST synths above that come with 1000+ sounds each, that value proposition isn't that great either. I'm hoping this new synth engine gets some attention from the many talented sound designers out there who eventually release some killer presets. Until then I'll wait to watch some of the videos that Roland comes out with explaining these new synthesis engines and see where people take this. You have to start somewhere, so I appreciate the bold move Roland has taken with the Fantom and hopefully we will get more and improved presets in the future (whether from Roland or 3rd party)...

Agree completely about the presets. Nothing in the first half of the video is very musical. There was some nicer presets in the middle and towards the end. I've got a Hydrasynth Explorer on pre-order and I was wondering whether I should cancel and get this instead. I'm waiting for the Hyrdasynth..... :)

As ever, the presets don't tell the whole story. They are in many ways designed for the music store floor - "oh look what it can do!" whilst trying to appeal to every musical taste ever. But once you start digging in to it, it is indeed very musical in its own right - and bear in mind as it's on a platform, it sounds SO good when it's mixed with ZEN-Core, and other model expansion sounds - oh and V-Piano and Supernatural too.

Agreed. I certainly wouldn't pay for this. I'd rather use Pigments and Diva via a laptop or Surface. These presets sound so so. Although the Fantom is a great piece of kit I solely use soft Synths these day rather than anything on my hardware synth.
@X22GJP
@X22GJP 2 года назад
@@TheSynthAcademy Exactly right - for those who are only bothered about presets, sure, it might be considered lacklustre. But, you're not paying for presets, you're paying for a whole new synth engine that has so much sonic potential, especially when integrated with the other sound engines on the Fantom. If Fantom owners aren't excited by this and can't find a use for it, I'd have to question why they bought a Fantom in the first place. I suspect that most of the comments along those lines are from the haters and owners of other brands.

Interesting. I do think that other wavetable synts like peak, argon and hydra sounds more " sofistikcated" but I can be wrong.

Yes most of those presets sound like Montage annoying motion synth which I got rid of mine and bought the Fantom instead. Most of these aren't usable in any practical musical way. I purchased the Hydrasynth Deluxe the same day the notification from Roland came into my email concerning this expansion. The Hydra is amazing and sounds far more melodic and usable than these do. It's still cool Roland has created/offered this expansion and I'm sure some will enjoy it. I'm not paying $149 for what I've heard thus far. Maybe later when it's half price. I'll admit in the original email l thought this was free with the OS 3.0 like the organ was. It probably should be free. Oh but using this as a supplement to real or normal instruments is a very nice option. UPDATE: I did purchase it but haven't invested much time yet. The interfacing is nice but the Fantom in general is fantastic anyway. It always sounds better in person than on a video but it does have some annoying or harsh sounds so you have to pick and chose or change them to suit your need and personal taste.

Roland keeps dropping the ball on being the go-to option for a workstation in the 2020s. This add-on should have been free. They will take 3 years to make it up to snuff like they did with the 2019 Fantom core functions ( added drawbar organ, odd and compound time signatures to the sequencer added Jp-8 and Juno-106 synth engines, as well as a ton of fixes to bugs that shouldn't have been part of the production release. ) Kronos and Montage shouldn't even be considered competitive given how old those architectures are but watch. I see the disappointment from other Fantom followers in the comments here and I understand. I hope Arturia or Novation consider getting into the workstation business one day and send Yamaha, Korg and Roland back to the stone age with these crap overpriced children's toys of offerings.

@Simbor-rh1dj 9 месяцев назад
Arturia and novation are the child toys and they started off by ripping these big 3, among other things 😂. Novation even started by getting inspiration from Yamaha. You don’t know what you are talking about.

Sounds like a cheap, plastic VST! Definitely not worth its 3K to 4K price.
