Do we love Tarot decks or do we love the Tarot itself? Is there a difference?
This is the first part of the video in which I go through my full current Tarot and oracle collection; my staple decks plus, twist: ALL the Tarot decks I've ever owned!
Why did I let go of these decks? Why did I keep the ones I have? Enjoy and see you in part two!

Fascinating -- as always. I love it when people share their decks and their ideas and opinions about the decks. Do we love tarot decks or do we love tarot itself -- both. I do think there is a distinction between the two questions and ideas. I am drawn to tarot as a spiritual tool for myself and others who want readings from me. But I also am drawn to the art for the sake of art. I'm not a collector but I love going to the tarot collection I do have and reading different decks, shuffling different cards, learning different things from different creators' visual representations. Also, I totally hear you on Tarot of the Crone -- I wanted to love it so much. Didn't happen. Thank you for your content! Off to Part 2.

I probably have about 150 decks but I've never learned a deck like the back of my hand; I guess I enjoy collecting and looking at the art more than using any deck exclusively. I certainly use them to help me learn more about tarot, but I change out what I'm using all the time, that's part of the fun for me. I've gotten several decks that I immediately decide aren't for me and they go in a bag somewhere--I haven't found the time to figure out how to sell them, though I've gifted several. Glad to hear there's somebody else out there who isn't excited about Pagan Otherworlds! Anybody need a copy? 😀

Haha loved this. I'm sure there are plenty of people looking for a Pagan Otherworlds :) Facebook groups or instagram are a good place to post photos of decks you want to sell. I also definitely like the variation. Don't think I'd be really happy with only one single deck anymore...

I used to read with the picard minors exclusively and applied the system to any deck I owned (Marseille etc too). I have now returned to reading swords as air and cups as water however, and have adapted my Esoterico to this new system as I love it so much and cannot part with it! I've found that reading the water on the swords cards as the emotions which can cloud our thoughts etc works too, so it can still be an Air suit. The cups are easy to read as water since I tried to artfully paint over the Air signs on the base of the cup on the Ace for example, and have also blotted out the Astrological symbolism on the courts and drawn playing card suit insignia over them instead (I did this on all the court cards in the deck just to make them all look cohesive). I know some would see all this as sacrilege but I love my adapted Esoterico and it's not the first deck I've tampered with the artwork on to suit myself (with varying degrees of success lol!). The alternative was to remove the minors and just use the majors with a deck of playing cards to provide detail in a reading, but the minors are amongst my favourite cards in this deck and so I wanted a way to still be able to use them.

Thoroughly enjoyed this Anna! Your coloured in RWS and your hand drawn Marseille are gorgeous, you really have a great skill there. I am also impressed that you were able to remember all of the decks that have passed through your collection, it's also great that you have been able to allow these things to move on with what appears to be relative ease. I'm usually great at clearing/decluttering etc but am struggling with my decks (I keep worrying that I might regret moving certain decks on). I've only managed to rehome a handful thus far. Hehe, it's cool that you now have 'your' tarot deck here on Tarot Tube, welcome to the club! ;)

@AstralLadyTarot 2 года назад
Exactly, I even mentioned you along with “your” deck haha! Thank you, after many many years (2 decades, actually) I have found drawing and painting and crafting again. Nothing that aims too high, just stuff I like to do for myself. It’s ok to hold onto decks. I passed along the ones I didn’t like (enough). It helps even to go through the deck and see which cards we like and which ones we dislike. We may be surprised, that we like the idea of the deck more than the actual deck
@lilpinkbear

@@AstralLadyTarot I love what you said at the end there, about liking the idea of the deck rather than the deck itself. I've definitely fallen into that trap before. And crafting/arting for the sheer joy of just making is the most lovely thing, I am sure it leads to the purist expression for that reason. x

Wonderful and enlightening video. I agree completely with how you view your collection . Thanks to your videos I have developed a love for the Trionfi so much so that it awakened my original love for pip and especially Marseille decks! I'm now Slowly dismantling and passing on my collection of "liked" but not frequently read decks. For me personally I think less is more.

Very interesting topic! I do have a few favourite decks that I know like the back of my hand but I couldn't just settle with the same ones over and over again. I love new decks, the artwork in particular, because each creator adds something unique in their work. And although I don't buy many, when a deck calls to me, I pick it up and fully enjoy it. For me, it's like reading a good book. I will immerse myself in it from cover to cover, and when I'm done, I move on. And if I can't show it anymore love, I re-home it, so that someone else will. ❤️

Hey. Great video. Love your passion for the cards as i am exactly the same. I admire the way you can just decide to trim,colour and personalise your cards.Thats a free spirit right there lol. Me,i will consider and think and think and then not do it as i feel i would ruin them for the pureness but desperately want to do it. Amazing Sabbath t shirt 👏 btw as Sabbath are my favourite band and have that symbol tattoo on my forearm. Look forward to the next video Anna. I will think

Hey Ivan. Ah, the beautiful fallen angel. It’s ok to take your time to decide what to do with the cards. Modifying a deck is personalizing it, so it’s a way to create a bond. If you want to change something about a deck, try it out on the extra cards that come with the deck. Hope it helps!

Thanks for reply Anna Yes as an artist i could do so many alterations but only feels right on a fake deck for some reason. I never sell my decks on so its not about value. Hard to explain. I would love to create my own deck one day.

Thank you. I feel like I need somewhat of a system, or structure in an oracle deck. I prefer Tarot for sure, but when I like a deck it doesn't matter if it's Tarot or oracle. How do you feel about oracle?
@darkfaetarot
@darkfaetarot 2 года назад
@@AstralLadyTarot I am afraid my oracle deck fetish is not so sophisticated. I love them for several reasons: they are great for a night time reflection, they can give a name to a feeling/ experience or episode in a direct matter, and finally, I see them as the bridge between the stories of each of the 78 cards, sometimes extracting the light and sometimes the dark aspects of a tarot card... I find often, my querents enjoy the final piece of the puzzle of a reading when they see the message from the oracle.

I have a problem seeing decks I think some family (like my daughter & sis) would love! They always do! I’ll even purchase one for me...I always obsess & make sure I don’t have anything that will satisfy whatever the other deck was like for me...I will get it & it’s like “what was I thinking?” Then it’s like all of a sudden that deck is needed for someone & it’s gone! If I miss it (only happened once) I’ll just buy it again. Now I don’t do this w/Indie decks! Also why do I have an easier time not buying Oracle decks? Did I really find the 3 I use all the time & am satisfied with so quickly? Vintage Wisdom & Mildred Payne’s Secret Pocket Oracle are the most used. Btw...Thank you for showing Trionfi Della Luna so much! I can’t even put it away! (I got purple Paradoxical!🥰) It has to be right next to me on my coffee table with my purple amethyst skull (who I was feeling bad for neglecting!) on top. I even got a purple bag that it goes in perfectly. I wonder if I have the balls to edge it? 😬🕶😎

I see what you mean! And the purple paradoxical looks amahhhzing. I say edge it! Use the title card as a test to see if it bleeds ;) Also I have some tips on edging cards in one of my Live streams: Re-edging my Trionfi deck, I think it's called

Did drawing your own help you learn the cards easier? I have ADHD for real...🤪...& I can’t even start reading the meaning before drifting off in my head somewhere. It’s really hard to use guidebooks lol! I was thinking of getting something I could color in...but I think drawing would get me to study the meaning so I could add a little something to each card. I love this idea...

Drawing did help me a lot! Especially in the Tarot de Marseille, I feel we need to focus on the details. This way you'll get the meanings in practice, it's a great way to learn
