it must be pointed out that as a carrier the columbus it pretty bad. it has no through deck design which makes it much more dangerous to land on especially when damaged. Wuld you do a video on the unique ships that we only see in Thunderbolt?
the Beehive from Thunderbolt is far and away the best variant also there is a BEEHIVE II that has an RX-75(S) Guntank torso mounted as a turret in the latter Thunderbolt Manga AND it even has rear hatches making it a true Thr-Deck carrier design.
@@gundamfacts such a hard thing to pick. I think the Dual type is my favorite nugget of knowledge there. As I never even knew it existed let alone is really cool looking
Really glad you made this video, never hear about the space crane either. Though I was kind of surprised the Antheim class wasnt just conversions of the Colombia Kai class considering how closely they resemble and the utility of having a duel purpose machine for supply or mobile suits.
@@gundamfacts though one last question did they ever tell or estimate how many tories or saberfish fighters it carried before switching to the Ball and GM?
@@David7793 as far as I know, at max capacity it is said to be able to carry up to 60 Public class assault Shuttles but that's Gihren Greed information. Personally I would say between 20 to 30 would be more accurate fore smoother deployment because they still need proper launch (you know as fighters)
great video. glad to see a gundam fan that makes a video with so much passion. Hope you make a video like this for the Salamis, Magellan and Birmingham
Thanks for watching! Magellan is a must be honestly. I'm just sad that gundam ships remains too much overshadowed by the average fans, so I'm trying to fix this
@@gundamfacts Same here. Some of the UC gundam ships are amazing. I know in the past we used to get model kits for ships with EX MODEL being the most prominent but I guess no one bought them because they ended that line. FleetMo still makes great gundam ships though they are scratch build
I always thought it was stupid that the federation chose to have 5 or 6 mobile suits per cruiser and not simply put an aircraft carrier with 24 mobile suits as a command ship for 3 cruisers as a general rule. The Columbus measures no more than 150 meters and carries as many mobile suits as Londo Bell's fleet, which consisted of 3 Clops and a Ra Cailum. I don't think it's so hard to make a 250-meter aircraft carrier, to carry the same thing as the Columbus but use that extra size to make it more mobile and with decent anti-aircraft weapons. In the real world there are no mini aircraft carriers like in Gundam. each ship is specialized, probably the 0083 salamis kai did a better job on its own than the 0087 one because of the amount of anti air weapons and short range missiles they have, give them 2 escort mobile suits and that's it. just give it cover of an aircraft carrier like in real life, and each ship does its job as it should, the thing is that gundam renders ship to ship battles useless in favor of the rule of cool of mobile suit battles instead of what happens in real life where it is a coordinated effort between both parties. We have only seen once where a mobile suit does what it should do and sends shooting information to its mother ship, which, as it happens in real life, ended up being more efficient than blind shooting, as it was when the nahel argama finished with 3 ships and their contingents of mobile suits, I mean the main guns of any ship sure do something similar on a smaller scale. As someone who likes space ships -gundam ones are really cool-, it is one of the most frustrating series in that section for me XD
I wonder how many Saberfish fighters or Vollhog colony defense fighters it can carry in it's hangers if operating as an aircraft carrier. Surely old school combat air patrol is still useful when mobile suits are in low supply? The Federation solved that problem by modifying the salamis to carry the ball, but I wonder how traditional fighters would have fared in that role.
@@956oddball in due time I will cover the Magellan variants, Traflagar being the most prominent of them after the Magellan Kai and Magellan Kai (Sentinel)
Woah! Where in the world did you get that lineart for the Magellean Kai Class? At 16:45. I have never seen any art for the Magellean Kai from the Sentinel Manga.
There is the official art that can be found on the MAHQ page of the Sentinel Magellan. And some images of the artbook (notably the one showing the Aeno fleet, included in this video) show Magellans with the Salamis Kai type bow
@@gundamfacts Huh. I do not know about you but when I go to the Magellan page for Sentinel on MAHQ I only get the old image which looks to be some sort of ship figure for the Magellan Kai. I do not see any lineart or artwork for the ship.
