Why Isn’t Markus Howard in the NBA? (Historic NCAA Scorer)
I’m usually never shocked of the reason when I remember or a name is suggested that many say should be in the NBA, as there’s always a good explanation as to why they’re not. Today’s feature is not one of those times. It’s of a guy I really think should be in the NBA right now, that’s done just about everything you could ask a player to do to make himself a first round pick, or at least hearing his name called before the draft is finished. Markus didn’t. Undrafted in 2020, after literally an all time great college career, as a top 25 scorer of all time, at a school in Marquette. He played all 4 years ensuring his development was at peak performance to have a special individual senior season, spring boarding him into the NBA. He led the nation in scoring that year at an insane 27.8ppg, shooting 41% from 3, taking 10 a game. In fact he’s never had a season where he shot less than 40% from 3, with a career high 55% from deep his freshman year attempting 5 a game. His career average of 42.7% is better than Steph Curry and Klay Thompson on that level, two players usually among the top 3 mentioned as the best shooters of all time. Although Markus Howard did obviously make the NBA, he only managed to play garbage time in 68 games for the Denver Nuggets, before leaving the NBA hub and signing on to play in Spain July 2022. He’s only 23 years Old, so in no way does it mean another more fitted opportunity in the NBA won’t come along soon, But it is shocking the Markus Howard is not in the NBA. Here’s why I think that is. All Time Great College Scorer! What Happened To Markus Howard? Stunted Growth

Loved his game in college. Unfortunately scoring PGs are a dime a dozen these days in the NBA and all are at least 6'2" and up. College scoring guards under 6'0" like Markus Howard and Chris Clemons (need a feature on him) are doomed from the beginning if they’re not putting up 6+ assists to go along with it bc the truth is that teams will always have taller players who can score like them, if not then similarly.

Howard wasn’t “held up” in Denver. They gave him every opportunity to learn to become an NBA point guard, but he refused to pass, refused to play defense and wouldn’t learn the system. At 5’10”/175 he acted like he was entitled to an NBA slot, and his made the least of his opportunities by only looking out for himself rather than fitting in with the team and knowing his role.
@3serio
@3serio Год назад
At 5-6 minutes a game, no he didn’t. They took a flyer on him, and realized they weren’t getting close to Steph-like production and that was it. They needed bigger switchable 3-D types. They ushered Facu out as well and he got minutes and ran the offense, and tried on D etc.

Butch Lee. Anyone who know the names Dwayne Wade, Jimmy Butler, Maurice Lucas and Wesley Matthews, knows there is another name associated with Marquette Basketball that deserves top billing. Wooden award winner. Rupp trophy etc. 1977-8 he won every major award as the best college bb all player. Lead Marquette to national championship. Lead Puerto Rico to near upset of USA team. His pro career was not what I’ve might have expected for reasons you are better situated to assess. True ballers from back in the day know who I am talking about. Young bucks should.
