I don't care what people say about Disney, or what become today as a company, if their stories are not original, i really i don't care, they always puy soul in their movies. They built my childhood with beauty, soul, art, and smiles. And i will always be grateful for what they did with my childhood. Handsdown.

Well said. If there's one thing to Walt's cartoons that is the epitome of a Disney film, it's the ability to have a solid story. And, of course, it always helps to have some nice visual and audio aid to go along with the story haha

One of my recently discovered favourites is 'Out of Scale' - apart from the beauty of the drawings, and the general accuracy, this was Ward Kimball and co having a gentle laugh at the hobby they shared with Walt. Walt and his back garden railroad even appeared on thew cover of a 1950's French model railroad magazine.
@WaltsNephew
@WaltsNephew 3 года назад
I whole-heartedly agree with you, Out of Scale is a marvelous picture paying homage, and a quick giggle, to Walt's Carolwood Pacific. I think trains are some of the most complex and ingenious ways of expressing animation, especially when done right at the Disney Studio or by Ward

Walt's passion for trains was indeed quite remarkable. His life was basically about railroading when you think about it. He had an uncle who was a train engineer whom he looked up to. Plus the trains and train-like rides at Disney parks make it more obvious. Truly a great celebrity railfan. One of the top reasons I admire him

@@WaltsNephew That would've been awesome if you were. Guess what, 9 years ago I wrote a letter to the Walt Disney Company about an idea for an attraction. The idea was a passenger train owned by them which would've taken people on cross country trips but it would've been pulled by a steam locomotive designed to look like Casey Jr. from Dumbo, kinda like the one that looks like Thomas that the Tweetsie Railroad has. They sent me a letter back which I kept to this day. They loved my idea and were so glad to see how thoughtfully creative was. But they couldn't accept my idea due to a policy of theirs which doesn't allow them to accept ideas from non affiliates. Truth be told I wasn't expecting them to accept it but all I wanted was a reply back from them which I gladly did get. Which is why I kept their reply letter. It's a treasure to me.

Walt was a huge rail enthusiast, and he was in good company. His fellow animators Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnston were also railfans. Walt also had his own ridable backyard train that he called the Carolwood Pacific Railroad. And because of this, almost all of the Disney parks include a railroad.
@WaltsNephew
@WaltsNephew 3 года назад
After the strain of near bankruptcy during the War years, Walt really needed a hobby so that he could get away from the Studio. Enter Ward offering to take Walt to the Chicago Railroad Fair, and the rest is history hahaha Just imagine if trains weren't part of Walt's life; the Parks would look very different, if they existed at all

As much as I wanted to see Walt try to adapt Thomas and Friends, Britt Allcroft's adaptation was much better, because everything she did on the show was very believable, from the engines and rolling stock, to the people and backgrounds; she wanted everything to be as real as possible. Besides, if Walt did adapt the Railway Series, I'm certain he'd put some cartoony elements in his adaptation, and Wilbert would never approve of it one bit.

Merry Christmas 2020 A.D., from the GB&W Live Steamers Union!! Walt,s backyard live steamer is a 4-4-0 American built in 1873 in the Sacremento Shops of the Central Pacific RR. It is built to 1:8th scale at 1&1/2" inches equals=1' foot, with 7&1/2" guage track. Walt had his backyard railroad built into the side of the hill, with a lower level. And a upper level with tunnels and bridges. But then a rain storm and landslide destroyedost of it. The loco is Number 173, and named "Lilly Belle" to honor his wife. He built the wheels in the Studio machine shop lathe with Mr. Brodie helping him, and Bob Harpur. The loco and some cars are preserved by the Los Angeles Live Steamers Club in Griffith Park, close by to the Travel town RR Museum. Also zoo and Observatory. Even more next time, Walt knows about English live steamers because his photo is holding 1860era 2-2-2 with open footplate and shiny brass dome, plus, 1950 era photo shows him in England and running 1:16th scale loco for 3/4" to 1' with 3&1/2" guage track on raised up platform. So he might know about early Thomas stories.

Fact: Walt's animations were amazing but he didn't pay his employees fairly I felt sorry for them and in about the 1940's they went on strike refusing to work for Walt until he pays them the amount of money they wholeheartedly deserve. I actually think Walt was half good and half bad because of that.
@WaltsNephew
@WaltsNephew 2 года назад
That's more of a half fact. His viewpoint of payment rested on the amount of work and talent that went into the animation. If you were a lead doing the rough creation from your own references, you were paid well. If you were an inbetweener, inker, painter or cleanup, your animation was less because you have less strenuous work to do in your drawings. Also, if you came up with a good gag or idea for the animation, you'd get a bonus
