KPopsicleSNSD I am quite sure that Dumbledore could have defeated five Luciuses with his left hand while he was taking a piss with his right. :-) See what I did there?
What I like about Barty Crouch Jr teaching the students imperius is that he starts it out all playful like “Hey yeah this is fun! Making this insect do my bidding, looks like a great time isn’t it!?” Before very quickly escalating it to “I can make them off themselves too…” it just really emphasises why it can be such a terrifying spell.
@@TheElderDragon7519 i thought it was moreso to do with “meaning it” as this was a realisation Harry comes to when he uses Crucio on Amycus Carrow after they spit on Professor McGonagall in the Deathly Hallows book. Like he probably did use Crucio somewhat effectively on Bellatrix, at least enough to knock her off her feet, but because he didn’t fully commit to the spell (perhaps because he knew what crucio felt like at that point thanks to Voldemort casting it on him in Goblet, and likely didn’t actually *want* to inflict that sort of pain on others) he wasn’t able to cause that lingering torture effect that crucio is known for, not as it was when he was able to successfully cast it later in the series.
@@TheElderDragon7519 I feel like the demonstration of imperio on the bug is off > the bug is floating and seems aware it’s in danger > normally when used you simply have control of the person or thing not actually levitating them like a puppet and I don’t think they can express there actual emotions while cursed
No. Avada Kedavra and Abra Kadabra are cousins, they both stem from Abaddha Kedhabhra, which means "Disappear with this word." in Aramaic, the language spoken by Ancient Syrians and Jews around the time of the fictional Jesus character was written into.
My heart ached for Neville when he named crucio. Barty Crouch Jr knew exactly who he was and knew that he had used crucio on Neville's parents, and wanted to see Neville uncomfortable. Poor baby.
@@beescompany7010 Bellatrix Lestrange, Rodolphus Lestrange, Rabastan Lestrange and Bartemius Crouch Jr., according to the books. In the movies however I think they only ever mentioned Bellatrix in conjunction with the torture of Alice and Frank Longbottom.
@BadJack no, in Goblet of fire, during the trial scene, they say, "A DEATH EATER INVOLVED IN THE TORTURE OF THE LONGBOTTOM AURORS! BARTY CROUCH.... JR.!"
@@leflyathon Bartey Crouch Jr did not torture Mr and Mrs Longbottom. I agree he dragged out the moment longer than necessary, possibly for sadistic purposes, though.
@@Ausetausert No, I assume it's because Hermione knew all about how the cruciatus curse drove Neville's parents to insanity, and thus understood how watching the cruciatus curse being performed on that spider was making Neville relive his most traumatic memory.
@@trevorpacelli8056I would assume it was rather that she saw his reaction to the curse that her actually knowing what happened, because as far as I remember, she didn't know about it until the order of the phoenix.
@sunnyX19 But everyone in the class saw Neville's reaction, and it doesn't make sense why Hermione in particular had such a strong response to Mad-Eye (Crouch Jr.) torturing Neville that way.
@@trevorpacelli8056 That's a fair point, but she might just have been the one that actually noticed Neville. (Because the others paid more attention to the spider)
+Miss Korea 1997 no, I don't agree that's what's implied in the movie. The curse needs to be stated clearly, and won't work if you say it in a gurgled mumble. He could have been attempting to cast anything..for all we know he was mumbling out of anger while at the same time casting a non verbal curse.
The classroom scene hits different when you remember Barty Crouch Jr is posing as Mad Eye and showing the Cruciatus curse to Neville knowing full well he was the one who tortured his parents into insanity.
@@Ruben27780 This is straight from the Potter wiki. "Shortly after Lord Voldemort's disappearance, Bartemius Crouch Jr. and three other young Death Eaters (Bellatrix Lestrange, and brothers Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange) captured and tortured Aurors Frank and Alice Longbottom, using the Cruciatus Curse on them until the two completely lost their minds."
@@Ruben27780 No he was definately there. He acted innocent at the trial, but he was there. I wouldn't be surprised if it was his idea to torture the Longbottoms. After all, he was in many ways Voldemort's smartest and most accomplished Death Eater, being the one orchestrate his resurrection.
I absolutely love how suddenly the mood of Moody’s(heheh, pun) class shifted. From being funny with him having the bug do funny stunts and climbing on people, to suddenly giving the idea that people could commit suicide from the strength of it, jumping out a window, or even drowning themselves. Wow, Barty was terrifying
I think that was the point though, to show why the spell was so dangerous. That it was all fun and games until you gave someone an order to hurt someone else or themselves. Barty Jr might have been evil, but he played the role of Moody flawlessly and this is exactly the type of lesson that Moody would give.
Moody saying "AVADA KADAVARA" in that tone is honestly the most memorable moment in the franchise for me. In fact his lesson of the curses is an amazing class.
That opening scene though… Voldemort was beyond clearly EXCITED at starting to kill people with a swish & flick again simply because of how he said it… that high pitched voice and halfway singing that incantation… “Fuck Yeah, I’m back in business even though I’m barely alive!” He’s probably thinking while wasting an elderly caretaker…
Better yet, even if Dumbledore wasn‘t able to kill or imprison him (lol), Voldemort would‘ve done that. Killing Harry is like pudding. If you steal it, heads gonna roll.
The fact you can hear Professor Snape's pain & regret to what he was doing. That little shake in his voice as he uttered Avada Kedavra, you could tell he really didn't want to do it but he had no choice.
What I like about the lesson on the curses that it starts off rather light hearted in a weird way. "Moody" messes about with the Imperius Curse, jokes around...and then on a dime reveals why it is illegal by showing that he could make the insect kill itself. And then it gets even darker with torturing and outright killing the insect. Neville getting upset by it (even more fucked up when you know who Moody is and his role in why the Cruciatus Curse bothers Neville) and Hermione being so upset over seeing the curses she doesn't even want to go into the Killing Curse One thing I appreciate about Harry Potter is that it often had a very clear idea of when to have the right tone
the actor who played lucius actually forgot which spell to use and said the only one he could think of in the moment the creators left it in because it fit the emotional and evil nature of the character
I felt so bad for Neville because you can see how bad it hurts to see a spell likely used on his parents use on a spider. He probably didn't want anyone else to expierience it
I realy like how Crouch chose the right people to show how terrifying the three curses are Imperius: Starts playing and jumping... Then shows how it can make a person commit suicide Crucio: He basically forced Neville to see the spell that killed his parents (I know it just tortures, but they went insane. They lost their minds and they didn't even recognize him. That's as bad as being dead, or even worse). That also made everyone see Neville's reaction and feel the fear and impact he felt, making the things more realistic Avada Kedabra: He did it in a place Harry could see perfectly, as he also make that cold blooded emphasis in Harry as the only known survivor of that Curse. It's just shocking
Remember the Deathly Hallows part 1 where Harry flied with Hagrid with that motor thing. And voldemort showed up and Harry Potter was a little bit down. He used expeliarmus on it's own. Voldemort cannot touch harry potter unless Harry wants to, Remember when Voldemort said i can touch you now when harry coulnd't prevent Voldemort from touching him. Harry Potter sacrificied himself in the woods so that is when Voldemort could kill him. Let's just say Voldemort could never touch Harry unless Harry wanted to. Thank me later. This comment was by Die Ene Jongen not by me
Harry didn't use Expelliarmus in that chase; if you remember in the book, his wand acted of its own accord, and it wasn't a spell Harry recognized. Then when he was in that "limbo" with Dumbledore, the latter explained that Harry's wand recognized Voldemort and shot his own magic back at him.
I love how they did that scene with moody teaching the curses, it goes from fun and games with the imperius curse to threatening to harm it, then it goes to circus which has nothing funny about it and creates only discomfort, then finally to the chilling use of the killing curse
The funniest part of the Lucius scene for me is how _livid_ Voldemort would have been if he found out that his lowly henchman had killed Harry over a trivial house elf feud, stealing what Voldemort considered _his_ kill. Lucius would have been tortured senseless lmao.
I just noticed that when Avada Kedavra hits Lily, there's a ripples of energy or wave of white thingy behind her (at 6:14) that could possibly be the manifestation of the protection she cast to protect baby Harry. It's just a subtle waves of white light that made the killing curse bounce back at Voldemort.
My favorite part of this scene is that it explains in few words why Harry is as famous as he is. “Only one person is known to have survived it, and he’s sitting in this room.” It’s it just surviving Voldemort, Harry surviving the killing curse specifically is why he’s so famous and why many speculated that he was stronger than Voldemort. That curse has had a 100% success rate for centuries and yet an infant of all people was able to survive it somehow.
@@xtoddscottx I don’t know tbh. I would assume that the curse is only effective if the Caster’s intent to kill is genuine. If it’s not then maybe it doesn’t get cast at all.
Awww this doesn't have my favourite, where Volde is on the hill and his weak general is being weak, then as he walks past just throws down a sly Avada Kedavra.
LonelyPoni that kid was firing to kill!! I am someone that you have never met and I am someone who is probably older than you. But I have never watched nor read a single book or watched a movie ever since the release of the very first movie. And now you know
Okay, you missed a couple scenes: -when Voldemort says Crucio to Harry in the Goblet of Fire. -when both Harry and Ron say Imperio to the goblin in the Deathly Hollows part 1. -when Voldemort kills a death eater with Avada Kedavra on the top of the hill in the Deathly Hollows part 2. -when Voldemort kills Gregorovitch with Avada Kedavra in the Deathly Hollows part 1. -when Voldemort is fighting against Dumbledore in the Order of the Phoenix he used Avada Kedavra (green spell, so probably, as you said in your video) These are missing scenes I just associated, but I'm sure you missed more.
It is possible to cast the curse nonverbally, as Bellatrix killed a fox without incantation. However, the lack of the incantation may have been for suspense. Whether this is true or not in Bellatrix's case is unknown.[9]However, during his duel with Dumbledore, Voldemort used this spell several times without an incantation. Intense concentration is likely required to cast the Killing Curse,
2:16 if there is one moment that will always ring true of Neville being a Gryffindor, this is it. You can see he is deeply troubled by it, of course he is, but he says it anyway and with all the possible composure.
I never realized until now that Lucius tried to use Avada Kedavra on harry in the chamber of secrets. I just assumed it was snake-talk at that point. Kinda freaky when you think about it. Lucius trying to kill a freakin kid...
Bruh, Lucius Malfoy was literally about to use Avada Kedavra, one of the unforgivable curses, in front of Dumbledore’s office on Harry, his favourite student. Very clever.
It is possible to intercept the curse with other spells, but this is extremely difficult as it requires the energy jets of the two spells to collide. As the energy jets of virtually all spells are very small and fast, this has only ever been recorded as occurring by accident.
That sound after fake Moody uses Avada Kedavra on the spider always brings me chills. I mean the sound effect themselves speak volumes in the HP series.
At 6:55 Voldemort could not have possibly used Avada Kadavra because Harry was obviously blocking whatever spell Voldemort was doing & if you go back to the Goblet of Fire scene where Mad-Eye Moody explains the Avada Kadavra Curse, he says that you cannot block it... & you can't judge the spells they're using just by the color... because if you've noticed, almost all (if not all) of Voldemort's spell colors are a greenish color... but whatever he was doing at 7:04 - 7:06, , it looks like was having the time of his life... but at 7:08 -7:19, he might've been using it, but you can't hear it this time...mainly because he always yells "Avada Kadavra!!!" when he's killing someone... so it's hard to tell.
Harry and Voldemort can because their wand cores are brothers. And, in this specific battle, Voldemort used the elder wand but in the way end of the movie it says that the elder wand belongs to him.
Jesus Saves! Perhaps as they have twin wands there’s an exception. Also, Voldemort was never the rightful bearer of the elder wand therefore, again, there might be a limitation to the extent of his power
The sound that the killing curse moody used in the classroom gives off is really unsettling. It's like a soul crying out in agony as it leaves the body
Despite Barty Jr.'s… everything, he was still a good enough teacher to show the students just how dangerous and serious the effects and consequences of the Unforgivable Curses quite well
Kedavra* and it can if the wand being used belongs to the person it is being used upon, in the case of the scene you are talking about. The elder wand belongs to harry by circumstance in the last movie, so the wand allows itself to be blocked if it is being used to try to harm it’s true owner, which is why harry survived Avada kedavra in the forest but Voldemorts soul/horcrux inside him, did not. Or in other cases such as a horcrux defending itself, which isn’t a literal blocking spell per say in of itself. Or wands connected through priori incantatem where the owners of the two wands with the same core can’t harm each other, which voldy explains himself in 7 part 1
@@willysnipes7004 which again also explains why Voldemort brutally killed Snape but didn't use Avada Kedavra. Because Voldemort thought that Snape was the true owner of the Elder Wand because Severus killed Dumbledore and thought that Avada Kedavra wouldn't work or backfire on The Dark Lord because of this. Obviously we know it was never Snape's to begin with it was Harry's all along after he disarmed Draco.
tbh I haven't seen all of the movies but he uses it in the seventh book when he sneaks into hogwarts and sees Carrow bullying McGonagall. They may have edited that part out of the movie.
I was so pissed they excluded that from the movie. The show of respect from harry towards Minerva that was enough to fuel him using the Cruciatus because someone disrespected her
(5:33) He used Priori Incantatem. Which is a reverse spell, someone tried to kill him with The Killing Curse, he couldn't block it because you can't block an unforgivable curse unless you have an object to block it, or use a reversal spell (Priori Incantatem)
Brendan Gleeson acting was awesome on this scene. Also the man in fact was Barty Crouch Jr. who participated in the torture of the Longbottoms and then Neville was there to talk about the curse. Powerful scene.
There’s a few they missed, when they were in Gringotts bank searching for the Goblet of Helga Hufflepuff, both Harry and Ron at some point used Imperio on Bogrod
Harry and Ron both use the imperius curse in gringotts on goblins in the dragon part. Voldemort also uses crucio on Harry in the graveyard in GOF. Just a couple I noticed weren’t in this.
i dont care whatever anyone says but Barty Crouch Jr showing and teaching students the 3 curses left a bitter and better impact on them not wanting to use them as any dark arts teachers ever could.
Always pissed me off that out of all the powerful and ravaging curses that he could possibly use, Harry casts a disarming spell to counter Avada Kedavra. He's made your entire life a living hell and pretty much killed everyone you love, at last throw a worthwhile spell back at him
When rewatching the first movie in the series, you'd have no idea the horrific trauma that dorky little kid Neville in the first movie has gone through.
At the part where you didn’t know if avada kedavra was being used, the small blasts at Harry weren’t because the killing curse is unblockable, but the big beam Voldemort shoots at Harry is the killing curse, it was just simply colliding with another spell.
I would actually say that the killing curse isnt the worst. Because there are many spells that can outright end a person's life. Cutting and flame spells, whatever the hell Snape's spell did to people. Inperio is dastardly because it violates the victims autonomy, it's like rape in a way. The torture curse could also be worse than death.
@@pooppoop2767 well thats another thing why didnt they just use veritaserum on them I dont know if Ive ever seen anyone bring up this apparent plot hole
Hermione also suffered from the cursio curse, Bellatrix tortured her using that shit. Poor girl. 2:30 No, seriously, knowing that Hermione passes trough this breaks my heart sm
I love the detail that when Crouch/Moody asks for a second spell, everyone raises their hand - except Hermione, for once. Barely visible with her in the background but it shows just how disturbed and unpleasant she finds the entire topic.
I literally did not realise until like now that Mad Eye Moody is Barty Crouch Jr. and he was one of the death eaters that tortured Frank and Alice Longbottom, meaning that he is quite literally showing the curse he used on a students parents to the student-
