About missable items, this list leaves out the Earth Mallet you can steal from Gigas in the northern crater, attack earth elemental item that is missable if not stolen from these enemies at that point of the game.
I was today years old when I learned you can farm the deenglow's for ether. I never started stealing stuff until I was already in the Shinra building because I knew about Hardedge.
I am planning on making more similar videos, I'm a little slow in making them so it could take a while. And yes, there always seems like there's something new to learn.
It kind of is my natural voice, might be a slightly changed because I did edit it a little to remove certain breathing noices. Now I do not think there is something wrong with it, it might just be the way I sound normally :P
This is one of my favourite games of all time, I've spent countless hours trying to find everything and figure everything out. Until watching this video, I still believed that dexterity was actually inflencing steal somehow, and so it was always Tifa's job. Very very nice content.
Great to see content for this game being made in current year. Lots of great info here, I'm walking through this game with a younger family member who has never played a jrpg before and I came to this channel while trying to find info.
Don’t let them become a participation trophy player. Let them figure out the game by themselves without the nonsense gambreaking shit that is made so easily accessible thanks to RU-vid now. These videos are great; but are not the great gospel. And are not what kids need to finish these games. Numbers mean nothing compared to art. If you’ve played this game 20+ times, you actually need to care about this information. You can play the entire game without stealing once. Also; I love that this game is still thriving to high hell. Keep it up!! But don’t rely on these guides when the people that made them literally did not have them this detailed. Unless you just want participation trophies. Again, massive love and no hate whatsoever, just enjoy the time it takes in your own bubble of critical thinking before subjecting yourself to the minutia of RU-vid kk bye
Final fantasy 7 is a game that, despite being a glitchy mess, despite the engine being so unstable they couldn't get rid of the glitches for fear of breaking the build, DESPITE some of the stats not working properly (seriously you get no magic defense from armour in OG ff7) final fantasy 7 is one of the greatest games ever made. Because it chose to combine a compelling (if confusing) plot with emotional backing and a cast of unforgettable characters. Thanks for reminding me of all the things that make this game special
@@howtoappearincompletely9739 if you use W-Item materia and select the 1st item completely, then choosing but cancelling the 2nd selection will infinitely dupe the 1st item. You can even go so far with this as to use the last item in a stack while another character morphs, say, a speed source in sunken gelnika, doing this will dupe items you can't normally use in combat. As previously mentioned, the M-Def stat on all armor doesn't actually do anything, I believe the ps4 update fixed this but I could be wrong. Back attack extra damage cam be avoided by simply pressing L1 and R1 to start escaping and stopping. Although that itself is glitched, as the party never actually takes extra damage from a back attack.
@@howtoappearincompletely9739 oh, quantum potion (test this one yourself) thanks the an oversight, the potion you get off the 1st guards is on both corpses until you pick it up, then it gets looted simultaneously from both guards
@@howtoappearincompletely9739 good examples from the gentleman above, another one is that you can get inifinite elixirs from the great glacier by not canceling the textbox when looting it in a "tent". There are also a lot of skips where you can skip entire sections of the game, e.g. you can skip the entire midgar raid by running downward during a specific cutscene.
If you have or Purchase one, the final fantasy 7 walk through guidebook has several advanced materia combinations in the front of the book. Some of them have several different materia in the combo.
There are a few options. Using the steal materia you also need a long range materia on the character. You can use the steal-as-well materia and combine it with a magic materia to let you steal when you use the combined materias magic. If you also have quadra Magic on another copy of the same materia you can attempt to steal 4x per cast as well
I've not even finished the video yet but have to commend your work on this and putting it all into a video, bravo dude. I also thought Dex helped lol. Fantastic work. Always loved that spending the time to steal from certain enemies in FF7 gave you some good items and equipment like the Striking staff, carbon bangle, hardedge etc...
Thanks, I appreciate the comment! It's really rather satisfying when you get those early steals and you feel how much stronger you get when using them.
I remember when I was a kid, I stole most of the end game stuff with Steal as Well + Comet (Lvl 2), it was such an OP way of stealing shit since Comet 2 hits multiple times.
For that I prefer KoTR to 1 SHOT EVERYTHING that isn't a boss and to steal 13 times and even by then post Carry armor death theirs really NoTHING work stealing at all even with Cloud Barret Cid lv 60 9999 HP 999 MP each against Carry armor.
Awesome. You can combine cursed ring with Tifas powersoul or master fist to boost her normal attacks. Only useful tip I have to add is buy 2 more steal in kalm. Early game steal rate is abysmal and it becomes more bearable if you can attempt to steal with everyone. You can steal ethers from a lot of enemies after you leave midgar and, like you said, its the best early game Gil farming method.
Indeed you can combine the two, very handy way to deal alot of damage with her. Stealing with more than one character is very handy if you want to get the steals quicker so it can be quite worth the gil for a couple of extra steal materias. Yeah ether comes from many enemies but I focused on the first one that have them but it can be very worth mentioning they can be stolen from several other enemies 😊
Haha I didn't think about that. When I was recording this it wasn't exactly a normal playthrough so in order to make it quicker I got the Ultimate Weapons :P
There’s just so much that opens up even before leaving Midgar that you can work on multiple different things: obtaining limit breaks, stealing, accruing AP, Gil farming…and then once you get to the world map, you can get like 4 or 5 enemy skills right off the bat, including Beta.
Do you have any idea how gratifying it is to watch a younger generations do in-depth tutorials of games people my age grew up with? It's great seeing new gens getting to experience and enjoy these classics.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I don't know about the younger generation bit, though, as I will turn 40 in a few years. But, I agree it is a fantastic game 👍
This was one of the best indepth videos of FF7 ive ever seen. You clearly put in alot of time and effort with this. Not only did you teach me a few things (such as Dex not affecting steal) but im sure you taught alot of others too. This was awesome tyvm for this, im gonna remember this for my next play of FF7
my dude, i dont know you, RU-vid just popped you up, but you have a sub, please do more Steal Videos, you can get so powerful in some games because of stealing, would be interesting to see a complete video series of the entire franchise when you can steal. FF X for example, while Riku is the main thief, Khimari is GREAT as an early one and in 2 V 1 boss fight he is in, you can get very good items.
Thank you, I appreciate it! It can be crazy good in some games that's for sure. I have considered going through the steal mechanics of the series, just gotta find the time for it. Funny thing is that I never stole anything when I played 10 as a kid in but I have learnt how extremely good it can be later on so that could be an interesting one.
I guess this video got picked up by the algorythm, huh? Anyways I have a thing to add. It is possible to get multiple stealing attempts. The trick is combining Steal as well with something that does multiple hits. Comet 2 gives you 4 hits, thus 4 steal attempts, but due to it's random nature it's best used for single targets (without extra body parts) or groups of the same enemy smaller then 3. Knights of the Round is outstanding since it's 13 AoE steal attempts. Great for the Midgar Turk fight since stealing everything normally is a pain. You're still not guaranteed to get everything, but you can redo the fight quickly if you don't get what you want. Thanks to RNG Manipulation you can get a Gold Chocobo in under an hour from scratch. Finally, if you link Steal As Well with Master Command, and then add Double Cut somewhere, you can steal 4 times using 4x Cut since Master Command is buggy like that. By the time you get this combo though idk if there's anything worth stealing anymore.
Yeah this video had about 100 views in the first 6 months and more than 10k in the last month. I didn't think of the steal-as-well + quiadra/kotr when I made the video but it is very useful info to be sure. I hadn't thought of the master command + double cut before but it sounds pretty awesome. It could be combined with mini to not kill the enemies before successfully stealing as well. Very useful tip though as you say, not too much left to steal after you get that comjo unless one kills emerald before going to midgar. I've never really done any RNG-manipulation but it seems really useful if you know what you're doing 👍
@How to Appear Incompletely No worries mate, RNG means "random number generator" and it's basically what decides all randomness in the game. It is however not truly random and you can by doing certain sequences of specific actions always get the same outcomes. So you can make the game give you your desired outcome
I also pronounced it like that! But then the voice acted Extended Universe stuff put the emphasis on the yU rather than Yuh, so I guess that became the norm. Similar to Chocobo pronunciation variation before ff10!
idk why but against the Moth Slasher when I had steal equipped to Tifa I was able to get 3 of them really quickly, like within a few tries every time. But for the 4th one when I had it on Barret took a long time, but this last time for the 5th one I swear to freakin gawd I have tried to steal 50+ times already and I STILL don't have it.... ok that was ridiculous. But a Hard Edge and 5 Carbon Bangles before the Rufus is nice
In the end it's all "dice rolls", so while it's unusual to get 3 quickly it's not impossible and in the same way it's unusual to need 50 attempts, but it does happen (at the same level it's about 0,3% chance ou will fail 50 times in a row or around 1/340) 😛
YO WAIT WHAT. You can combine 2 of the same magic materia (i.e. restore) and pair it with two different support materia to make one effect. in almost 30 years I never knew this and I've played FF7 about 20+ times.
Haha yeah you can make all sort of interesting combinations with for example a simple fire materia, quadra magic, mp turbo, hp absorb, mp absorb in a single spell and get all effects on every cast
From the moment i got steal materia, i used steal command in every first time battle till i got the item before killing the enemy xD FF7R remake steal was a big let down. I was happy that they add steal but there wasnt much good item to steal. Should have add more unique items to steal.
Haha, yeah, I do the same most of the time when there's a steal mechanic. It is so much fun when you manage to get your hands on something rare 😁 The stealing in the remake was indeed a bit mediocre, but there was at least one unique steal from eligor
Always thought the foe HP mattered. every time i've struggled to get an item from a enemy, i've lowered it's HP and grabed the item on the first/second attempt
Yeah, it can feel like that sometimes, but it really doesn't. I also used to have that feeling when playing, but after looking into it, I realised hp doesn't do anything. Might be a little bit of confirmation bias.
I didn't know about that one either for quite a few years. For me it might be because I didn't use Tifa much when I played it as a kid as I usually went with two of Barret/Red/Cid.
Don’t believe it was mentioned in the video, but I believe in the original release of ff7, the Magic Defense stat was bugged and did not reduce magic damage as intended. In fact I believe it did not work at all, I also believe this bug was ported to every version of the original released on other devices (PC, PSP, PS3. And any others I may have missed)
It’s been a while since I looked into the bug which is why I’m not entirely certain as to which ports have this bug. Something to keep in mind for OG playthroughs
Yeah that's true, the bug is a thing in the versions prior to the steam release so in steam and ps4 mdef works as intended. But in ps1, psp, ps3 and the first pc release it's a thing to take into account.
Thanks! I haven't planned for it but I'll consider it. There aren't too many mechanics when it comes to drops but it could still be interesting to look at
Yes, as long as the materia ability you use is linked to all the support materia. For example, if you have Fire-All, Fire-HP absorb, and Fire-MP absorb in different linked slots on a character, you can use fire on all targets that also absorb HP and MP at the same time 😊
Thanks! I actually didn't miss it but rather decided not to include it as you can buy it in junon before you can steal it. For this video I went with stuff you cannot buy before you can steal 😊
U can use steal all too or even better equip the sneak glove and on ur weapon put a mastered steal as well materia linked to a mastered steal materia along with a mastered mega all materia linked to a mastered steal materia the only item u cant steal on disc 2 is the vagyrisk claw by then ur level will be too high to steal
Good video, but I suggest speaking a little louder and more confidently. Just act like you’re talking to your best friend about the same subject matter - proudly, friendly, energetically. Don’t overthink it!
@@Slerran Pace Vesuvii, I prefer your speaking voice exactly as it is: mellow, informative, and unobtrusive; really the opposite of what Vesuvius suggests.
Very great guide! And you're still answered as well! Thank you! But i have a question. As i've read somewhere, if your level is pretty high you won't be able to steal some rare items from enemies (Like Vagyrisk Claw or something). Is there any info about what items can be missable if character's level is to high?
Thanks! I have actually made a video specifically on the Vagyrisk Claw because it's the hardest item so steal in the game, the link to that is in the description of this video. There are only 4 enemies which have multiple stealable items which is what can make certain items unstealable. I didn't include them in this video since I didn't find the items themselves that interesting but the enemies with multiple steals and the missable items are: Mighty Grunt - Grenade - lv 70 Bagrisk - Vagyrisk Claw - lv 77 Malboro - Echo Screen - never unstealable Behemoth - War Gong - never unstealable Why items become unstealable is explained in my Vagyrisk claw video.
@@Slerran Oh! That's very good to know! So there's no any equipment and rare items to miss. Thank you for your help and such an awesome videos, keep it up!
@@Slerran Very helpful; thank you. Grenades and Echo Screens can be bought, whereas Vagyrisk Claws can only be stolen (right?); can War Gongs be bought, or are they stealable-only?
@@howtoappearincompletely9739 You're welcome, thanks for the comments! You can get a couple vagyrisk claws from the CMD.Grand horn in fort condor at specific times and the war gong also drops from the Grand Horn enemies outside Gongaga.
I am currently planning on making more of tgese for other games and among them FFX is pretty high up on the list. It does however take me some time do make them so it'll problably be at least a couple of month away
for Elixirs I recommend just using the W-item glitch- I believe it still works in most releases-steam for sure. Cuz by the time you get to tonberry's you should have it by then- if you miss it on the return to Midgar trip you can dig it up in Bone Village.
Indeed, that is one of the best ways of getting elixirs. If one is okay using glitches there is the infinite elixirs glitch in the Great Glacier, though that one is a lot slower.
It’s absolutely sinful how few subscribers you have. You put so much effort into these videos and don’t get nearly enough credit. I just subbed and am looking forward to more great content!
