here's a fun fact: the original Xbox renders its startup animation in real time and due to that first effect being somewhat dynamic, it never really is 100% the same.
yes, if you have a chip installed, not softmod, or one of the models with TSOP chips (1.0 TO 1.5) you can actually mod this animation, changing the colors of the fog, lights, the color of the blob and other parameters on the BIOS and then flashing this bios to the modchip or TSOP.
Too bad that nowadays everything is minimalist, even the boot screen .... I know that the animations were because the console was still "getting ready" and nowadays it's almost instantaneous but even so I miss the old menus and start screen
really puts perspective on how many times I would hear this boot up after a long day at school. golden era of gaming for sure, won't ever have anything like it
I was pretty young during the golden era unfortunately. Although I remember my dad playing some really goated games back then. Like Skyrim, Destiny, Halo, and some others. I ended up playing a ton of old Lego games lol
What was also amazing was knowing that those animations weren't just a hud but like an animation rendered within a game, so much so that you could change the Light, Smoke at startup if had the device to alter
3:10 That particular dashboard is actually from late 2011, and it's got quite a few differences from the current design. The most obvious differences are the darker background and the presence of a "Quickplay" button on the Home tab.
1:55 my favorite dashboard of all time. Loved the dark grey and green miniblades, combined with the best bootup over the kinect/metro and the organized main dashboard altogether.
Literally remember playing modern warfare for first time with my friend on this dashboard, the carnival map, and I remember him putting on watch the way you burn by rhianna n eminem on the grey dasbhoard
Ye and remember the Netflix watching with friends thing they had? That time period of Xbox felt almost like a fever dream (or maybe the memory just fogged since it was over 13 years ago lol).
2:36-2:44 Ahhhhh,The memories of getting up at 7am to play Minecraft and Lego Batman on the Xbox 360, good times :) EDIT: wth was i thinking when i wrote this, no recollection of writing this, im not even nostalgic lol
The 360 blades were way better than the PS3 dashboard. The dashboards after that, though? Not so much. All of them just seem like an excuse to get more ads in your face every time you turn on the console.
Even though i never had a 360 it’ll always be iconic cause I remember going to friends house or my cousins house and booting it on to play minecraft or halo
Same man, before I got on xbox one, I used to play on my friend 360 one. Glad i god xbox one which still supports new games today too We fell into fight with 360 vs one lol
Me and my young brother had the original Xbox console system from Christmas Day '02, and it was awesome. Also it was the exact same year when I got the PlayStation 2 console system in early 2002 back then during my late childhood years.
me, the veteran of xbox, windows and playstation, i remember all of these and now i clearly see my first boot of my first console, the original xbox. ye, these times were so much better than today, if u ask me about that. i know, you can call me boomer, but i am not. i just like old things more than new ones, that is why i use windows vista, psp and xbox360 from 2005 today lol idk why, i just don't like new windows, and even though i have xbox series x in my house i still use the old one
2012 dashboard brought back a lot of memories of playing with my older brother, or watching him play with his friends. He’s in college now and I miss him lots.
I love that the startup still inherited something from the old consoles. The sound is similar to the 360, the startup is similar to the One X and the XBOX logo could be from the original.
For me, it all started with 2012 (I know, I know I was late to it) sometimes I wish I could've started earlier, but I never had any Xbox until my first 360 in 2012. I now got 3 of them, and I got an Xbox One
God I miss the golden age of gaming. 2000 - 2015 were the best years for sure. All Ideas were new and fresh. So many iconic and great games coming out every year, and games had love and passion put into them before they became just money making machines. 2015 was the beginning of the end. Lootboxes and microtransactions just took the industry by storm and now its battle passes and item shops. There just isn't any reward for playing a game anymore, you've got to fork out the cash to actually be able to do any form of customisation these days. Games are also releasing in unfinished states more often then not, with many studios seemingly having the "release it now, fix it later with updates" mentality. Glad I grew up in the golden age rather than the dark ages of the last few years
The Xbox 360s (2012) UI was one of the best, also the Xbox one (2013) Those UIs in my opinion are future proof, the design was well made and it displayed a lot more relevant information, the actual Xbox UI is really bloated with a lot of things you don’t need to see but the thing you want to see are under some extra menus.
I really miss the 360 days. That was when I was in trade school, working toward my MCITP and just got my A+ and Network+. Was working part time as a laptop build/break fix technician for a big finance company. Little responsibilities, tons of time and lots of excitement looking forward to the exciting new “Black Ops” game coming out soon.
The consoles I’ve had: Nintendo Wii Xbox 360 Kinect: 2012 Nintendo Switch Xbox One S I hope to get: Oculus Quest 2 Xbox Series X I’m 15, and I’ve played a lot of wonderful games. (Most mobile games this era suck, so we don’t count those!)
I started my gaming on the OG 2005 360 dash... i vividly remember just being so intrigued when cycling through all the menus and seeing all the different colors for each tab LOL... thennnn the 2008 update happened....
The 2012 Xbox 360 dashboard and the 2014 Xbox One dashboard is honestly two of the most beautiful dashboards not just for their functionality but their overall aesthetics. (edit: also seeing these interfaces again after years of being absent from them brings such nostalgia, really miss those times.)
I also felt nostalgic... when the Xbox One arrived here at home, there was this menu, I remembered it after a long time with this video.... it seemed that the menu was more alive, especially when the the announcement of the Games and mainly of FM5 appeared
As a playstation fanboy who liked his "movie story games", Xbox 360 start up and ambiant sounds are so legendary. I used to be so jealous of Xbox Live and Party chat lmao
I played all of these, I currently have the Series S and my brother has both Xbox Series. We have played all the Halo games from completing each campaign multiple times to trying to kill each other in matchmaking or forge world, Minecraft, Skyrim, the whole Borderlands franchise, and many more Xbox classics or console classics in general. I've also played almost all the PlayStations (with the exception of PS5 but I will be getting 1 very soon as I now have a job and am trying to save but rn I currently have the PS4). Man, gaming has played a big part of my childhood memories. They have helped get me through a lot of rough things for so many years and counting.
2008 dashboard was my first one and my all time favorite. I also remember that one the most because I played my og copy of Halo 2 24/7 on my 360 as a kid.
At 1 point I had used the X-Box 360 startups for my production logos for Benton Film Unlimited, but I'd stopped doing that after a while. I went on to use other things. I try not to do that anymore because I don't want to be stealing anything I know I don't own, respectfully.
I still remember my first Xbox ahhh the sweet 2012 summer nights that I spent playing Skyrim when life was simple and we had one worry and that was our consoles breaking and now the memories are the only ones we love now we never have the time for the console that is covered in shame and dust
How nostalgic the start of the first How nostalgic the start of the first console, Who knows where it will have been Who knows where it will have been stored 😔😔😔
it's so interesting to see the 360's updated startup/menus over the years. i wonder what it would've looked like if they just kept updating it forever.
The very first xbox start up+menu was (and still is) way ahead of its time. Nobody will ever put in the effort to make another start up+menu that will beat it, or at the very least be on par
I buy, sell, collect and restore consoles as a hobby. I once got an OG Xbox with an entire playlist of Nu Metal MP3's from 2001, it was one of the best things I have ever came across aside from ncaa 14 popping out of a broken 360 last year.
