One piece of fish and I'd be done - if I ever have a fish and chip supper here, I will just take the tail end off my son's piece as I can't eat a whole piece to myself so I sit here wide eyed watching competitive eating vids which I love.

I have to agree... I was a chef and in the business for 16 years.. I really like your content, Joel. You seem like a decent dude- and this is not a guilt trip or anything like that... but imagine you were the owner of the restaurant, how might you feel? ..all you can eat is not an easy thing to offer people.. margins are small in most restaurants and a couple people coming in and eating 10 times what most eat for the same price can eat up any money made on food that night.. from the entire night. seriously.. especially in places where the food is already affordable. if you prearranged it and only worked with places that were on board- it might be better for the long term (and I am sure that isn't always an easy conversation). Anyhow... like I said, I have always enjoyed your content and you have always had a great attitude and kept it fun. really hope this doesn't make me sound the jerk- just offering a POV..

Why comment like that when you have no idea what you're talking about? Troll, the average customer doesn't eat nearly enough to make a dent in the price of the meal, even taking costs into consideration. Customers like Joel and Scott are so extremely rare that the business was still making a great profit on that night's take, and it was also excellent advertising which didn't cost them anything else. That's why they were so happy to have the guys there, and kept bringing them more fish.

They're not at all pointless, they give the restaurants excellent exposure that will grow exponentially for years to come. They're also not unfair on the restaurant. That restaurant didn't lose any money at all.

Actually, that's all completely wrong. Most restaurants do cater to pro eaters, and there's a good reason why. The restaurant did not lose any money on this at all. They figure the pricing out so that they're making a good profit on those who eat more, and a great profit on those who eat less. Joel and Scott didn't put a dent in their overall profits for that night. Not only that, but the exposure from this video is going to be bringing in customers for years to come. I don't know why you think that most restaurants don't cater to pro eaters.....they actually create the challenges, and I know that they will contact the eaters and invite them to take on their challenge because it's great advertising. More and more restaurants are getting into the idea, because as far as the advertising dollar goes, it can't be beaten.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again, the trolls are out tonight. They knew who the guys were, they recognised Scott, who was wearing a sweatshirt when they came in.

I could not disagree with you more. The restaurant set the price and the terms. All you can eat, this is the price. End of story. It is up to the restaurant to set their own restrictions on their offer. Example 16.99 all you can eat or 20 pieces. It is not up to the customer to forewarn the restaurant. Besides if you understood business, the few dollars they lost on Joel and his friend, and that's all it was was a few dollars, they will make back 50 to 100 times over in the goodwill they generated by honoring their all you can eat policy.

They didn't need to pay more than the advertised price. The restaurant will still make a profit, and it was free advertising for them. The tip is none of our business, but they did both say that they tipped. How much isn't at all ours to know.
