All You Fascists Bound To Lose - clawhammer style banjo

Who could have guessed that this 1940s song by Woody Guthrie would be the object of somewhat of a revival here in August 2017? My version used as its starting point the lyrics as sung by Billy Bragg (some of which he added to the song) tweaked lightly by me to make the references a little more contemporary. I also take a few liberties here and there with the melody, singing harmony instead, which is a tendency I have no matter what I'm singing. It's played here , clawhammer style, on a Jason Romero Banjo, using the intervals of Open C tuning, but tuned down to the key of A (thus: eAEAC#). This was the opening song of Montreal's Yellow Door Coffeehouse Friday Night Hootenanny Open Stage, which I host, on 18 August 2017.

I will never forget what they did to Heather Heyer at Charlottesville. Fascists are not welcome anywhere.

This is so fantastic . So rarely that somebody matches the harmonica with the banjo so suiting . Thank you ! Do you play straight harp on this or cross harp ?.
@marcnerenberg1
@marcnerenberg1 3 месяца назад
Thank you! I’m pretty sure it’s cross harp. This video is 7 years old; I usually put that kind of information in the video description now, but I see here that I wasn’t doing that that yet then.

Fucking amen! (Those nylon strings, or do those just sound so mellow because of the downtuning?)

Great rendition! Man, what is the head on that banjo? And is that just wear and tear, or is that the actual color of it? Looks almost like cowhide with the hair still on!

@@christopherhelton6999 Thanks very much! It’s a Jason Romero dyed 12” goatskin head. It’s not wear - it’s the dye job.

Thank you very much Nicholas! I'm sorry, but I have to let you down about the tab - I neither read nor write tab - theoretically I know how, but I never actually do it, so I'm really crap at doing it.

Is this in double c tuning?
@marcnerenberg1
@marcnerenberg1 4 года назад
A Little Bit Off I’m not playing in double C tuning. I’m using the intervals of Open C tuning (gCGCE) but tuned 3 semitones low to be in A instead of C.
