Most equipment now is perfectly able to withstand a 500v dc insulation test. Perhaps equipment of 20odd years ago may have struggled. Important to add then any sensitive equipment that isn’t meant to be tested at 500v dc will most of the time be marked and labelled as such, for example some RCDs. it mainly will come down to experience as you find your way around
