This was an awesome video, the fact that you took time to make another video answering questions and being helpful to your viewers is dope. I respect this channel so much after this.
Ah thanks so much Michael! It's hard work but when I got so many questions, it's difficult to reply to every single one of them so thought I'd save them all for a video response :) I'm loving making these types of videos - will plan to do more ! Thanks again man
He still hasn't quite got it right around GPU's, the RTX 4090 will absolutely still be consistently faster than 7900XTX with this display (although a lot more expensive), however due to the lower display port on the 4090 it can't "technically" hit 240hs/fps unlike the 7900XTX that can. Neither card has the grunt to do this reliably however.
All these superwide monitors are something you buy and then "grow into" as you upgrade. I've had a G9 for 2 years and love it. As I upgrade my hardware, I'll get more use from the features. Older games run great. Just wait until you're on a Nvidia 5000 series card.
My system was already top of the line before I got my first ultrawide. Hardly something that I'm going to grow into. If your system cannot handle 4k gaming, you should not be buying these monitors as your money will be much better spent on other upgrades.
Will I hate myself for taking the plunge on a 3060 Ti? 😂 I have been plenty happy doing 1080p gaming but hate it for productivity. So I keep weighing the idea of getting the G9 for productivity, putting up with black bars or downscaling resolution for gaming, and upgrading my rig to crank more pixels down the road.
Pete your content is top tier for me, sincerely. You’re one of the most genuine reviewers out there and the videos are awesome quality (editing especially). Please keep it up and know that there are people out here that really appreciate the effort you put in. Cheers from Canada. 🙂
Dude thank you so much! Really makes mine and the whole teams day to see these kinda comments. Most of the time it feels like we're posting videos to a big black hole of the internet! haha. Our editor has really stepped up a notch recently and I'm loving it! Thanks for watching, thanks for commenting, and hey - jump on our discord server and come chat sometime ;)
I never understood all the people claiming you can't draw a straight line on a curved monitor, I assume they are just repeating something they read somewhere.
@@PeteMatheson It reminds me of years ago people parroting that we didn't need monitors with high refresh rate because "the human eye can't see more than 30FPS anyway".
Nice video! I picked up the oled 49 inch for 800 dollars as it was a pricing mistake but they respected the mistake and let me have it for only 800 dollars instead of 2300 dollars
Regarding PBP refresh rates and the vertical line you can get rid of the line with nVidia's "surround" feature. It tricks the OS into thinking it is a single monitor of DUHD and not two UHD (4K) monitors in PBP mode, which improves the experience massively as the wallpaper, maximising etc works as if you had a single input.
If you would have paired your 7900xtx with a Ryzen 7800x3d or higher x3d CPU, you would have been able to use the smart access memory feature which without over explanation, would have boosted your FPS. Not up to 240 FPS fast but a noticeable amount.
I have a MacBook Pro M2 MAX. The resolution I'm able to get with a USB C to DisplayPort is 5120 x 1440. The text is still blurry and not as Crisp if I plug in my Windows laptop to the monitor. this is Very simply a SOFTWARE ISSUE. it's clear to me after trying a billion cables and third party apps even to try to adjust the display settings that Mac OS just simply does not SCALE things well. Another thing - that "HiDPI" thing that you see next to resolutions on a Mac, I don't see that for the 5120 x 1440 resolution, I think that's simply because Apple has NOT patched the OS to deal with this resolution, and that's why we don't get the advanced scaling options.
I’ve bought this monitor for my M1 Pro. You can connect via hdmi and get 120 hz So I use pbp, one side via thunderbolt to display port (4k 120), second side thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and you need to flash a custom firmware for this adapter(not a big deal. It takes 30 mins) and hdmi 2.1 cable and you will get 4k 120 hz as well.
Hello, that sounds great! Which adapter are you using and which custom firmware? Also does it solve the « vertical line »/« color shift » in the middle of the screen?
haha you actually made me go and look to see if the 7900 XTX is actually better than the RTX 4090... (it's definitely not, in case someone is wondering)
Just got the 49" OLED version and it's amazing after you you sit in front of it and get used to resolution for a day. My only issue so far is the DP Port is unusable and even the HDMI had weird glitches at times. Even using the cable that came with it. I ordered some VESA Approved cables to see if it resolves it. If not it may be an excuse to send it back and grab this one while it's on sale. 😅
I returned my 49 because of the DP. There’s a $999 non-smart version now which should eliminate port switching issues. Also been thinking of the 57 but the matte finish as seen here is a dealbreaker
@@marshinz5696 yeah I got my new Cable yesterday and like you said the monitor is working flawlessly now. Samsung is better off not shipping them with a cable at all then allowing this to make their monitors seem like they're of poor quality control. Extreme stupidity by a Billion dollar company.
I had the same issue, it's 100% your cable. Since you're using DSC, you need a really robust high quality cable. Mine has been working fine ever since.
@@massaBeard yeah it's been 5 days since I switched cable. Not a single glitche ever since. Haven't played a game on it yet but I just got Cyberpunk while it was on sale. I'll run this on my 4080 and hopefully there's still no glitches.
Seems like a pain for games that don't let you scale the resolution very easily. Is there not a monitor that allows you to do this without the use of fancyzones or another 3rd party program? I simply want this screen size and be able to play a game "fullscreen" in the middle with apps open on either side of it. Cant seem to find that.
You mentioned that you have Sonos. Which Sonos speaker do you have? Please connect your Sonos speaker to your PC and Mac using HDMI. Use a DisplayPort for the monitor and HDMI for the Sonos speaker. Would it work?
I stopped getting the the line down the middle when using 2 x USB C out to HDMI in port 2 and 3 from a MS surface pro 8. I got it if I used usb c display port on one. Or if I used port 1 I think!!
No card will run this beast on 240Hz. 4090, which is by far the fastest card out there, will not be able to get close to even 100Hz. 7900 is 30% slower so not sure who gave you the specs 😊
7900 XTX is the only one that CAN run the desktop at 240hz and full native resolution. 4090 Might be faster, but it doesn't have DP 2.1. Like I said in the video though, depending on the games you play, it may be better to go for the 4090 and run at 120hz native res than the 7900XTX at 240hz, but bat way lower in FPS.
Well I’m actually surprised cause I can run everything pretty well as long as the game has dlss and specially frame generation on my rtx4090. I’ve tried a few new ones. Red dead 2, battlefield 2042, dying light 2, halo infinite and I can get them all over 110 fps with max out settings. Dlss quality to balanced mode. I think this gpu really hits the Gad pedal when you through at it ridiculous resolutions like this monitor
I have this screen ( got end of August), a 4090 and 7900xtx. Although you can get 240hz with the 7900xtx (nitro+)its not worth it as the card doesnt have the guts for games at this res. The 4090@ 120hz just about copes. Though 240hz in windows is nice and smooth. We need next Gen for this screen.@@PeteMatheson
Your 7900 XTX can achieve a full resolution at 240hz with 10bit HDR because of the connection, but the GPU's ability limits you from hitting those frames. The irony is that the 4090 could generate the higher frame rate, but the display port 1.4a is self-limiting. Cheers for the effort. I suspect the next iteration of 4090, possibly the 4090 Ti, will have the display port 2.1, but we'll see what happens. Cheers, thank you for the effort.
@@Limboinpinbo , In retrospect. The display support wasn't there, and if I'm being fair, so many people are on the LG OLED TV train they probably figured that for gaming, they had till Q2 of 2024. These 4090s are way more powerful when tuned properly; I saw over 150 FPS with quality set to max on 4K on nearly every game I play. It's such a beast at complex AI-driven GPU-accelerated "complex" calculations.
@mrv3509 it's about GPU capability. 4K , true 4K, not 3840, but native 4K uses almost the entire 48GBs on HDMI 2.1 at 120hz his monitor is the equivalent of 2x 4K monitors side by side. Theoretically, I would estimate well over double that 48 would be needed for a full 240
The daft 1m DP cable is a pain, but other than that, I’m loving this monitor. I’ve upgraded from an old, beloved 32” Benq 1440 screen, and I love having the extra space. I’m primarily using it for non-gaming uses at the moment, but it will also be a gaming screen. I was considering a second 32” screen, an OLED 4k one probably but I’ve always found 2 screens is a pain unless one is definitely subsidiary and off to one side, because there is always some sort of bezel right in the middle at the ideal spot for your eyes.
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
Can someone just make it clear for me because I'm not sure and I was about to buy this monitor. So right now I have a 16" MacBook pro 2019, will it be able to handle this monitor? I mean can I use it with no restrictions like PIP? What cables do I need for that? Another question is - I'm thinking about upgrading to M3 Max, is this one also able to handle that monitor? I don't need 240hz but will it work with full res and at least 60hz on both of these macs?
Can you use it at 100% scale in windows or is it too small? I ordered one and waiting to arrive ...and currently use my G9 49" at 100%, but curious if things would be too small
I just wish we could get a monitor with this resolution and refresh rate along with productivity in mind. Things like built in Ethernet, power delivery over USB-C, and proper one button kvm to switch all peripherals and video input would be worth the 2k price tag.
@@dayjeremy Easy, you might need the fastest and most stable internet connection possible, which is always gonna be Ethernet. For example for very large file transfers. I had to wait 45min yesterday doing filetransfers to my workplace server (from home). At around 300mb/s (over wireless). My ethernet would have been around three times faster.
This monitor is very welcomed by our customers of our chair cockpit … many of them asking if our Manticore chair can support the G9 monitor . The Answer is Yes.
This mini-LED version is about 90% of the colors of an OLED. The question becomes, do you trade 10% increased color depth for the risk of burn in on a screen of that size?
That's deeper than my desk - so I would say yes BUT you may want the desk mount instead of using the stand, since the legs will eat into your desk space a fair bit!
@@PeteMatheson Thanks Pete! I've already got the ergotron hx mount, and it's a game changer. I wouldn't use this monitor without the mount to be honest. That's all I needed to pull the trigger on this one. Thanks for your help!
@darkgodmaster @justintrentini8956 - Yes, I played a little yesterday (had an issue with my mobo, had to rebuild with a replacement for now). I have not played too much but, I had to make sure it would boot before my return date for the monitor. I get around 46-70 fps in cities with a lot going on, 60-100ish in space with not a lot going on. I have not tried bunkers yet. Game settings at 7680x2160 with quality on very high, rest set to high except for scattered object distance, water, and terrain tessellation distance on medium. I did try HDR, it worked and looked amazing! I am not running HDR now because for windows to allow you to turn on HDR all your monitors have to support it. I run a 4k 27in Dell Ultrasharp (60Hz) next to this one that does not support HDR, I had to disconnect it in order to enable it. To me, I would rather have HDR off so I can use the other monitor for hardware monitoring and Discord. 13900k / 4090 / 64Gb DDR5 / Samsung 990 Pro / ASUS Tuff gaming Z790-Plus WIFI mobo (EVGA Z690 Dark Kingpin is in the RMA process at the moment) / custom water cooling for both the CPU and GPU (2 420mm radiators with 6 Noctua 140mm PMW industrial fans).
@@PeteMatheson thanks Pete. I made the error of buying 2 Arks but due to the resolution it doesn’t really buy you much screen area. The benefit of the 57 is how much you can get on it but also dual pc input which the gen 1 ark can’t do. Thanks again for the reviews!
Mine will be at my local Best Buy this weekend. For some reason, i couldn't get this monitor delivered to my house. I live in a city, near other big cities so that seemed a bit strange, but luckily Best Buy doesn't have that problem. Just a heads up to my fellow Americans ... the delivery date for the monitor arm he is using is set to arrive between Nov. 28th - Jan 26th. So be prepared to wait. All in all im excited to get it.
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
I’m currently on my second monitor and having diagonal lines issues on both. Can be difficult to spot but it’s quite enjoying. Planing on returning it for a second time. Entire model nr: LS57CG952NUXEN. Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks a lot for all the work you do regarding this monitor. I am planning to buy it in the comming days but Im still worried about the arm. Could you please let me know what is the depth and the length of your Desk ? Just for me to get an idea
All 3d games are stretched a bit on the edges when I had my original G9. Switched back to 21:9 larger screen and cranked up the fov on games. Never any problems with 21:9
Question: I just got the display for my M2 Max (soon to be M3 Max) and noticed that the highest non-native resolution choice is 3840x1080 (doubling the native 8K2K). It's sharp, but makes the UI much bigger than I'm used to. Any work around to get a medium-large scaled resolution closer to 1440 high? This is what I preferred on my LG 5K2K 34" ultra wide to more closely match the UI size of an Apple native interface.
@@PeteMatheson So, does the MacBook Pro M3 or Mac Studio M2, when using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable, support the full resolution of this monitor (7,680 x 2,160)?
Hey! Thanks for the video! How would this go with Architecture programs like ArchiCAD or Revit? I’d also be using it for rendering house designs on lumion. I have a Dell XPS17 with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 with 12 GB. Should I also use my dell thunderbolt with this monitor? Thanks for your time in advance!
Thank you for the detailed review I currently have the Samsung 49 CHG90 (2021) and I'm considering to upgrading to this 1. Did you notice any health difference to your eyes pain because this OLED might be with less blue lights? Long hours give me eye pain with CHG90 2. Serious productivity difference from 49 inch?
Wow man you really went above and beyond for the viewer! I wish I could do something like that. I am starting to get a little more traffic but I always make the mistake of not recreating content that people are interested in. This year will be different!
Great video Pete, I'm hoping you can answer a question for me about the KVM capabilities. When working between two separate PCs in PBP/PIP mode, does the single mouse and keyboard switch seamlessly and automatically, like can you simply drag your mouse across the PBP border and start working on the other PC? Or do you have to hit a button to switch over the Keyboard and mouse input?
Hey! Thanks for watching / commenting. You have to manually do this with the controls under the screen - Unless you install some form of screen sharing software on both machines. Logitech MX Keys & Mouse also have this built in so they can do this with their software between Mac & PC etc - works pretty well!
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
The only reason you can theoretically get to this native resolution at 240Hz on the XTX is because of DP2.1, which Nvidia cards don't have (they're HDMI2.1). However, an RTX 4090 is still an overwhelmingly better GPU than AMD's XTX. So, I think you will struggle hard to get anything to run anywhere near the native resolution on 240 HZ on the XTX. I've seen someone with a 4090 on native resolution on this screen reach around 60FPS for Cyberpunk 2077. I'd guess you'd only get around 40FPS on an XTX for the same resolution. So, while DP2.1 can do native 7680 x 2160 at 240HZ, you're never getting anywhere near the FPS for that to matter...
Why didnt you pair the 7900 with an Ryzen 9 3D? They would have much better combination since they are both from AMD, regardless thank you for the video. I plan to get this monitor in an year or so but I think that something like an 5090 would be the correct GPU to handle this monitor, great video regardless.
Honestly I was originally planning to get the 4090, but then realised the lack of support for 2.1, so just swapped the graphics card out. Hoping to get the 5090 when that comes out. Cheers!
Does this support 3 screen pbp ? Currently have the 49 inch g8 and it splits the screen into two distinct monitors. My m2 pro sees it as two distinct screens. I use one HDMI and one display port. Does this support 3 or still limited to two ?
I have a mini pc AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Currently run two \LG49" ultrawide curved monitors at full resolution. Would it be able to run the Odyssey g9 57" at full resolution? Debating whether to upgrade to buying this monitor.
How did you get it out of picture mode eco? I'm stuck in that mode. Using a 2080 super. I can do 8k 120hz via 2 connections merging to 8k display. But yeah. Can't get out of eco mode.
How did you get it out of picture mode eco? I'm using a 2080 Super... Wondering if that might be the issue (Using 2 connections to make the full 8 k res vs one cable)
i bought the 7900XTX and I'm using the proper cord for 4k 240hz and also 10bit is active but now HDR is gone?? Will not let me turn on in monitor settings or windows.
How do you force the console to push 120Hz instead the side of the display it's on. I'm also using a Mac Studio and even if I put the Mac on 60hz and change the settings on the PS5 it won't let me get 120hz. Is this just a major flaw? lol
You completely lost me when you say you are testing the gaming capabilities and then play fortnite and overwatch. Two games that run on an old toaster. Why aren't you testing Cyberpunk 2.0 or Alan Wake 2. Resident Evil 4 or anything this year that pushes gaming tech forward?
I have m3 max and I got the new 57” Samsung curved monitor how I can get single monitor on my Samsung screen from my computer? And get the full resolution.
Just got my neo g9. I ran into a number of issues with the PC not detecting the monitor. The only thing I have found works is plugging both DP and HDMI and then removing one once the monitor turns on. I have no idea why this works.
It seems to be a very dividing personal opinion. I don't mind it, I'd rather not have all the reflections from bright light around me. But others prefer the glossy finish
Very useful video, thank you so much! The way you speak mixed with your cool English accent makes it a pleasure to listen to you. Keep on the great stuff :)
Can you measure the length and breadth,But not diagonally? and also the length and breadth of your table top please? Thank you.

I left it in the previous video without knowing about this one. so I'm putting it here as well: Can this monitor support 3 input sources? I want to connect 3 computers and am considering using a USB switch. What's the easiest way to switch between the inputs? Would changing the input source and switching the USB allow simultaneous access to all 3 computers?
Hey Gaston! Thanks for the comment - interesting question. You can plug in 3 devices, but not show them all at once. Switch using the controls underneath which is easy enough, I guess you'd need to get a USB Hub to switch the devices? Alternatively, I use a Logitech MX Keyboard & Mouse which all connect to 3 devices so I can just switch them at a tap of a button - so no need for a USB Hub if it's just the Keyb & Mouse you're looking at switching.
Could you make a video to demonstrate the features of PIP? What's the maximum number of screens we can input at once? Does it support 3 screens or 2 screens
If you have a powerful enough graphics card you might be CPU bound. Since I got my 4090, I can pretty much max out the graphics settings with zero effect on the frame rate in Warzone, as my 5950X can't go any faster. I can max out my monitor's 200hz in the 6v6 modes though. You can turn on CPU time and GPU time display in the settings.
how does this work with Mac M1 Max? 240 Hz? 7680x2160, 10 bit. full resolution? i also have the Caldigit TS4, which has Display Port 1.4 and Thunderbolt 4 , so does that get full resolution if M1 MAX does not??
Great video. Hdr is not working for me. It is really grey and dull compared to sdr. The tone mapping is greyd out for me when I activate hdr on windows 11. Please tell me if it is also greyd out for you when to activate hdr windows. Thanks in advance
I did instal the latest firmware (1003) for the monitor but I don’t know what you mean by pc drivers. You mean windows updates o envidia drivers. I do have the lates Nvidia drivers. Is there specific software that should be installed in windows for this monitor?
I did find a couple of times I had to go into the Graphics card software (AMD for me) and push it to the correct resolution / HDR etc from there rather than from within windows. Also make sure you have 2.1 set on the screen itself as mine keeps switching back to 1.4 !
The product is great but this monitor is useless right now, the 4090 isnt even compatible with it and even if it was it couldnt take advantege, right now i think 4090 + 49 inch neo g9 is the best 32:9 240hz combo rn, personally with this setup i can get 240fps in most games with optimized graphics settings and dlss quality
Hmm. I think 2x 34" ultrawide is wiser for now still. Pushing 3440x1440@120 is a sweet spot for gaming without overheating the room and within reasonable budget. Plus bare for sim racing, 32:9 is actually mostly a con, hud excentered, too much mouse travel etc. "Sweet spot" is a real thing an 21:9 is where it's at imho.
What you haven't mentioned, and yes, it is important is why the nVidia cards can't push more then 120FPS, and frankly its a simple answer - nVidia decided not to support DP2.1 on the 40XX cards.
This is the Ultimate Review. I can't imagine someone would need to watch anything else! Watching this, I could completely decide if this is for me or not! I don't need this monitor at the moment but it was great to see where tech has come. :)
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
I don't know why you show fancyzones. Fancyzones can be used on any monitor. What people want to know is the stuff specific to this monitor, not other monitor. Showing fancy zone to split 3 screen is not a feature of this monitor. What you need to show is whether this monitor can support PBP with 3 inputs or it is limited to 2 inputs max. If it can display 3 inputs it will be killer feature. That's the real stuff people want to know, not fancy zone.
not sure anyone here can help my concern before I make this purchase... I'm using a 2019 iMac (Radeon Pro Vega 48 8GB), is it ok to get this monster to work ? (7680 * 2160 @ 60Hz)? also the PS5 seems a issue to me .... @.@ thanks Pete for the awesome video ~~
I'm torn between getting this currently on sale at around $1500 or waiting for these very promising but normal aspect ratio OLEDs at around $1200. What would you do?
I run my 57" as two monitors side by side both at 120hz with an Nvidia 4070ti with no visible line in between, even when I centre a window across the middle of the two screens. I use HDMI ports 2 & 3 for this.
