A considerable achievement to recreate this track. It's very interesting to go to the original where you'll see the differences in the way it's played by Allan. His hands are monstrous and he articulates with incredible spans and skips and much greater power. It's important to remember that this was played in the moment by Allan and is all the more amazing.

That is a sick amount of memorization, for a solo that was originally improvised. If I started working on it in 1997, I'd probably be almost ready to record a cover myself by now. :) Awesome job as usual.

Very well done, brother! I have two of the headless Holdsworth guitars. I had DiMarzio PAFs installed in one, and Harmonic Design Z90s installed in the other. Very, very nice guitars. The folks at the Carvin factory were kind enough to install those pickups at the factory for me.

First, I listen to them a lot. Enough to where I can hear them in my head. Then I start the process of transcribing and memorizing phrase by phrase.

Question was how did Holdsworth memorize 2 dozen of his songs to play live. All the chord changes & solos to each. I'm sure Allan improvised more than note for note?

Great playing! Love the HH2... any room between the bridge and bridge pickup for a Roland Hex pickup? Would love to order one of these with midi or add it after the fact.

yes, there is room but not sure were you would put the other end where you plug in the 13 pin cable. I use my H2T for my MIDI setup.

Derryl Gabel I was thinking of doing the Roland GK-KIT-GT3 Divided midi pickup. When I called Carvin the guy on the phone said there was no room. I'd love to hold one in my hands so I could be certain.

It's a mahogany body with a birch top. I sold that guitar and now use the Kiesel Vader.

I use the Fractal Audio Axe FX XL Plus. I tone matched Allan's sound using the Axe FX Tone Match technology and then used the delay settings from the Yamaha UD Stomp and programmed them into the Axe FX. One of the "secret sauces" regarding Allan's tone is his use of 8 delays. It's basically four short delays that create a room sound ( reverb ) and 4 long delays that create the ping pong echo. I mean this in a respectful way, but that's scary, I like Allan' s music, but his phrasing just seems otherworldly, I just take what I can and dare not try to apply it, but for you to understand it in depth must have been like learning a separate language.
