This week we're in Cajun country, the swamps of southern Louisiana Alligator hunting with the Hayes Boys. We're meeting up with my friend Scott Green to set alligator hooks and do a little jug fishing for catfish. I'm also attempting to shoot an alligator with my longbow and DIY GatorGetter rig. Swamp people ain't got nothin on us!
Also, be sure to check out Liz's new channel where she'll be whipping up some good eats with the gator meat! / @lizhayes7474
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!

Nice job clay , just came home from a 2 week stay in Florida. went fishing on a golf course pond with reclaimed water. Friend of mine was showing me how to use blue Gills hooked up live to catch large mouth bass He then pointed out to me that we have a visitor, a fellow fisherman, it was an 8' gaiter in the Middle of the pond. So we had to watch out for golfers driving on top of us to the green and the gator swimming just out of the casting distance . The wind was 30 miles an hour sustained and the temp was 46゚ all in all very adventurous day no bass Florida is a cool place.

@@clayhayeshunter Yeah, for sure. The nice thing is you could get the long enough to just cover the limb, and hide the fades or in coverd spots with a leather handle wrap. Heck, you could even do a crocodile leather wrap just for the aesthetic. I hope to see a video come out, it would be really cool, and I think the first one on RU-vid using the alligator skins or crocodile leather for a bow.

Hey Clay, I've got a cheap flat bow off Amazon that says it's 40 pounds draw. I've been practicing a lot and can hit where I'm aiming within 20 yards. Do you think this bow can kill a deer if I get it within 20 yards? Shot placement isn't an issue just don't want to injure a deer from having a bow too weak. I saw your youngest son shoot that hog so it got me thinking. As far as state law goes I only need a 35 pound bow. What do you think? Go for it or wait until I can get a nicer quality bow. The bow is made of wood and fiberglass
@clayhayeshunter
@clayhayeshunter 2 года назад
Yeah, absolutely. Just make sure your broadheads are sharp, two blades. And the arrows are tuned well and of sufficient weight. I’d recommend 500 grain minimum.

My Dad has been a bow hunter since the early 70's (back before it was cool..lol) anyways Indiana has always been his home state, not sure about now days but the last I knew Indiana DNR law required a minimum of 35lbs. for whitetail deer, so yes 35lbs. will kill a deer.

Looking at that shot, I think the string pulled too much power out of the shot, I think if you gave it a lot more slack it might have been better, that’s just looking at the time it took to hit the gator after you released, you are the expert so I guess if think that wasn’t the case then let me know because I want to try this haha
