Clay Newcomb your a southern man's southern man! God, family and the outdoors, Rinella knew what he was doing when he brought you on to the Meateaters staff. Finally, a man that I can understand and relate to! Your Bear Grease podcasts are the best thing going. Your Daniel Boone episodes were the best of the best. Being from Kentucky I take great pride in the story of Colonel Boone. There is another man that I think you should take a look at and that is Simon Kenton. He had as much to do with or more so than OL' Dan'l with the settlement of Kentucky. Thanks again Clay, I appreciate you.

Clay, I dont think you understand just how important and meaningful it is to tell your son youre proud of him. I miss my pops. Wish I could hear him tell me he is proud of me again. Ill never forget the last time he told me, and when my brother told me how proud he was with tears running down his face after we were trying to digest the tragic news of his passing. This is just wholesome and so dang awesome. Good job Bear.
CONGRATULATIONS BEAR!! There's no better feeling for a Father than passing on the art of hunting to his Son or Daughter. Thanks for keeping the tradition alive.
Reminds me of when my old man and uncles would take me to deer camp for the week. It was cold and had some harsh days out there but I’m a better man today because of it. It’s great to see young men like Bear out enjoying what the creator has given us and honouring that animal with the amount of effort, determination and respect is really awesome too. Great episode
Such a cool story. I had to come back and watch this one a second time a few weeks later. Love these personable stories and seeing the enjoyment on everyone’s face. A true American tale.
hands down my new favorite episode!!!! I was there when my sons got their first whitetail….and never a prouder moment until my oldest gave me a grandson and now my middle is having a baby girl after hunting season. I admit I almost teared up when Clay walked up to the boy.
Hunts always feel that much more worth while when u hunt harder you may have got the bigger bear but that kids got a hunt to remember forever good job bud!!!
Baiting bears is also a big investment of time, energy and effort. Its not a freebie, and its not lazy, it takes lots of planning, and I agree with Clay, its a big time commitment. It's a great way to hunt predators. Congrats to that young MAN. Thats an experience he will never forget, and is the type of thing that gives you confidence that you can make it in life, not just hunting. Congrats Bear!
Just when I thought i couldnt love the ppl of meateater enough, one of em sends their kid to hunt and the kid crushes it. back to back props for both of u.
Newcomb family & friends, thank you for sharing these moments with us, you didn't have to. Clay, another great story told. Kudos to the Meateater crew for capturing it and helping to share the story. In reading the other comments on here, I think this has really touched a lot of people.
This is the single greatest episode I've seen from Meat Eater, sorry Steve. The solo high-moral ground I originally found in meat eater with Steve is optimized by this right here. This is the true, perfect, representation of the generational hunter, the most common way people get into hunting.
Clay is awesome! Those in this video are those who make our country great. This is one of the best Meateater productions ever, and I believe I have seen just about all of them.👍👍👍
Three things about this episode, I was glad to see you get your bear but even more excited that your boy got his and lastly I used to play and sing that song with my brother many years ago.
Love it. I enjoyed listening to Bears first solo hunt on the podcast, glad I was able to watch the process that goes with the story. You guys rock Clay.
Clay, I'm going to be a father this August after losing my dad last September very suddenly. What your son did was beautiful and I'm so excited to do that with my kids. Congrats, he's a special young man
Don't think I'm alone when I say the Newcomb family needs their own spin off series, big game, small game, dogs, mules, Clays melodic voice haha... What more could you ask for?
This was great. As soon as I saw bear grease right after the meat eater title, I knew this was gonna be good. However seeing Bear complete such a difficult task at a young age as he did was a extra bonus. Bear you should be proud. Not only of a great accomplishment but having such a great dad to teach you how. Congratulations job well done👍👍😎
Truly amazing! Keep up the good work clay and the bear grease crew! I have listened to every bear grease podcast and have been truly inspired! Love y'all!

Scientific fact. You don’t hurt your dog 🤗🐶. Or a parrot 🤗🦜. Hypooocrite. Meat🔴fIaaake, or vegan ✅❤️💪😬 ??
WAY TO GO BEAR! I’m 34 and I did that this year. 3 nights on a Georgia mountain, no bait, the hard way. Except I didn’t kill one. That impressive stuff!
After listening to the podcast this last year and literally getting to know these people in a way, this production is super satisfying to watch. Hopefully I can experience a time like this one day.
“Bear grease is a metaphor for things forgotten, but relevant…”. I think a rite of passage as authentic and legitimate as Bear John’s was the best and most relevant part of this episode. Thank you for remembering… and sharing it with us all. (I wish you coulda gushed over him a little more though, just sayin’)
