Great video of the CA earning it's keep. Although, the governor is surging. It's probably missing the anti-surge spring on the throttle linkage. Very common problem. They rust away.
I'm picking up my first tractor... An Allis CA tomorrow. I was thinking of a d17 but with gas prices, I had to ask myself if I really needed a 65 horse tractor for a lil brush hog. A lot of guys would claim a CA is too small for baling. But... You're doing it AND pulling a trailer. Love it.
Great Video! 2 thumbs up. I have one and it's in pretty good shape. I have never baled with it or any other baler so I am learning as I go. I will probably be asking some questions if that is ok. Especially about the knoters and timing. Do you have any videos of you working on the Baler? Thanks.
Thanks! I’ve never had to work on the knoters. No videos of any work being done. I’ve been running this baler for 21 years and the only issue I’ve had to work on was the pickup. The slip clutch failed to slip and the pressure was so great on the pickup cam that the cam broke.
Where do you source your parts for that baler? I have heard many new holland parts will work but wasn’t sure. The knotters on the 303 are a bit different in the gears than most modern balers. Just curious if you have done any updates to it or not.
I had a 302 for a while. Couldn't get the darned thing to tie decent. Figured out the knotters were worn down to nothing & couldn't find parts at the time. Sold it to a gentleman that was coming back from a big AC show in Minnesota. The baler now resides in Oklahoma. Kudos to the youngsters for helping out. I noticed they weren't wearing gloves. Good! Darned things get in the way anyhow.
Sorry to hear you had issues. Just about all of the knotter parts are the same as New Holland. I think the only difference is Allis used a gear that had one more tooth compared to New Holland.
My first tractor was my uncle George’s CA. I tried to bale with it but the governor would “cycle” every time the plunger stroked, sounds like yours does as well in the beginning. The other option is to run it full throttle like you did later and that’s to fast. The other one across the road would have been better. You got the rake tractor and the baling tractor backwards dude. Now I have a 190XT turbo diesel.
