The improvisional skills of the Original (Duane) Allman Brothers Band is the 8th. wonder of the world !!! This music is the direct result of six individuals thinking , communicating , creating , & performing as one cohesive unit....R.I.P. Duane , Berry , Gregg , & Butch -------PLAY ALL NIGHT !!!!!!!!!! Peace & best wishes to all !!!
I read in an interview that the band was disappointed with the Fillmore East recording of this piece and now I understand why. The energy and creativity in this performance is amazing. This is my favorite piece by them. As a guitarist, I played along with them on this piece for years. It's a great number for a guitarist to improvise their chops. but it is also such a great composition. It's like a symphony in rock and jazz. The music world truly lost two giants when Duane and Barry died. Why is it some of the great ones have to leave us so soon? And to no fault of their own - just a freak accident as also with Hendrix, SRV, Randy Rhodes and I'm sure there are more. Like Mozart and Schubert dying way before their time. What a tragedy it is what passes for music (garbage) today compared to the creativity and quality back in 1964-90. Leave it to the record companies to ruin a good thing.
I love this tune soo much, I live in Colorado and it reminds me of driving through mountain passes, if it's not already playing, I turn it on when I know I'm coming into a pass and it fits so well. The ups and downs and the sweeping from side to side, it's really addictive.
The lick Duane hits at 30:49 is absolutely sublime. The SUNY 1971 concert is the best I've ever heard by the ABB, and that's saying alot. Thank God that the Duane-era band, like Jimi, was well-recorded, even if the sound quality wasn't always great
Greg really cranked it up at the end ! He was like I just listened to you guys jam for 30 minutes, I’m gonna get the last laugh, he must had that organ on full blast to get over onthe rest of those guys!😂
My Ben would start this on the jukebox on his way out of Big Dawg's, his favorite hangout place, to his friend's dismay because this lasts over seven minutes.
Jack is sooo underrated and unheard of. He learned quite a bit from Duane. There are some interviews he has done mentioning how much he learned from duane
With Jack, my absolute favorite 2:26 post Duane edition of the Allman Bros. Jack Pearson is mind blowing in any genre he plays. An absolute master improviser.
The one thing they loved to do was to play amongst the audience and Duane once said that was really really important to him and the band.He once said and Gregg reiterates this that you feel detached playin in an arena
That photo is from their from the time they played in Nawlins at the park, Audubon Park, they had played at a Warehouse the night before, amazingly Phenomenal, jűs sāyīn !😎✌️😎!
Support Devin and Betts, these guys are great, listen to Duane's stuff and they remind me. Do they do a mountain jam? The Allman brothers are the beginning of something.
markcorley it was recorded a little more than a year after Duane died...but Dickie may have been developing the song while Duane was still alive...on The Gatlinburg Tapes, Dickie plays a very early version of "Ramblin' Man", with slightly different lyrics and arraingement. "Jessica" sounds like it would've been a song that took some time to develop fully. I believe Les Dudek claims that he came up with some of the counter-melodies on guitar for "Jessica"
The greatest guitarists, in subjective order, are Hendrix, Stevie Ray, and then as a specialist (greatest slide ever) Duane. Dicky and Duane were the best call and answer combo. If you've watched Stevie at El Macambo - Texas Flood and Lenny (all of it is phenomenal) then you'll agree. God I wish there was more video of Duane RIP!
+Supsailor1885 Retired It's on a boot: 'Crazy 'Bout A Flying Bicycle'. The You Don't Love Me was cut to 6 Min. But it's a single disc, so if you know ABB they rarely played a show that lasted 65Min. so I'm sure it contains what were the best of the show! Plus it is all SB quality! Worth picking up if you find it!! Oh yeah, the CD shows the date as 7/26/70 but this M.Jam is the one on the Disc.
