I also saw the Allman Brothers 5 times. Unfortunately, I didn't see them before Duane and Berry died. They were the tightest band that I ever saw play. Even with changes in guitarist, their playing was so strong. Also Gregg had one of the best voices. He really could sing the blues. He was such a talented person. I miss the Allman Brothers. There will never be another band like them.

Derek is amazing. Greg Allman 10ft away with Dicky Betts on the other side....yikes. Though it didn’t affect his playing, its obvious Derek is nervous. What's really beautiful is how Oteil regularly checks in with Derek with a big smile of support like, "dude, we got this, we're having fun..." If the joy Oteil radiates while playing could be bottled, I have a bottle with me at all times lol.

I remember like it was yesterday slipping past my bad arse, hippie hatin' ole man on blazing hot Sunday afternoons in July of 1969 and 1970 to go down to Macon to see the Brothers in Central City Park gratis. I know that Dickey was surely and not the nicest person to be around but at this show he was playing and singing well and although a few months later he was a bit disoriented and playing badly I think they could have handled his suspension better. A band meeting in person at his house would have been better with Gregg saying his personal sobriety was very important to his well being and that they were going to go out with guest guitarists while he cleaned up his act so he didn’t have to leave in the middle of a tour as he had to previously but instead sent him a FAX which sucks. Ive been fired from bands myself and it sucks. The band without Dickey wasn’t a tribute band like the current Skynyrd but it was no longer the ABB without him in my opinion.
@wasabiginger6993
@wasabiginger6993 6 месяцев назад
The whole thing is really tragic. IMO, Dickey had lots of unresolved deep anger … so to have a meeting might have resulted in his getting violent, which Gregg would not have wanted to deal with. Heard in the end he got a good financial settlement and is still drinking away.
@gregfreeman1341
@gregfreeman1341 6 месяцев назад
yes the last few videos I saw of Dickey playing onstage were tragic. I realize he's 80 now but my mom is 91 and still driving a porsche boxster. there's an interview of kenny vaughn talking about touring with the abb in 1998 when jack was in the band and Dickey at that point was being a pain in the ass and alienating everyone. I still think the original band was the greatest american band of all time up there with "the band" circa 1970.@@wasabiginger6993

This concert took place just eight months before Betts was kicked out of the band allegedly for the quality of his musicianship (among other things I guess). I don't see that being an issue based on this performance.. Nothing against Warren Haynes, but this should have been the go-forward lineup. Except that there is an obvious lack of chemistry between Betts and Derek. I didn't see Dicky make eye contact with Derek once during the set, despite the latter's efforts. Visual cues are an important part of performing as a group, especially between essentially two lead guitarists. On-stage communication can make the difference between playing together and making music.

I read in an Allman Brothers book that the band had to fire Dickie because he was coming late to practice, h was drunk a lot of times too. Like any good drunk with talent and reputation, Dickey probably felt and acted with a certain entitlement that Greg wasn't going to tolerate, as a band leader. Greg saw what was possible for the band with the infusion of the new, young talent - he saw what they didn't do in the 80s and 90s. And he wasn't going to let that get compromised by somebody who wouldn't rehab - Greg had plenty of credibility and authority in that regard given his own struggles. He wasn't finna to take Dickeys bulls***

Greg, Derek, Dickie, Oteill, Jaimo, and Butch. The only one I can't identify is the gent on the additional percussion. Anyone? And see how young Derek looks, must have been 18 or so.
