All of my favorite musicians on one stage playing such a beautiful Dylan tune... Jiminy is happy

The measure of a great song is that is can be slowed down, sped up, played on different instruments, in other words with different arrangements, and it is still great. You may love one or the other best versions but all are valid. I love it.

John Petroski Yes, the song was written by Bob Dylan, but it kind of gets messy, because it was just words. Jimi Hendrix was the one that did the rock beat to it.
@smartalek180

Dylan himself has said that Jimi had made the definitive version out of Dylan's piece. Dylan came out of the folk world, where it was completely acceptable for each new artist to take something from some other artist, or from handed-down tradition, and to remake it in their own image.
@robertwoodward829

Really liked the note choices Haynes made with the vocal, esp the opening line. I always either hear people murder it, mostly or nail it. The tune lends itself to creative note selection, with the vocal as well as instrumental soloing. I'm so conditioned by the Hendrix version that its the way I sing it, but there are some nice alternative places to go with it. You can hardly have a better pedigree than written by Dylan performed by Hendrix. Song is like going to church for me ...Spiritual.

Carlos has been my hero for 50 years, a genius. I have loved the Allman Brothers for the same number of years, fantastic musicians. No disrespect meant, but this version did not move me, much too mellow. Hendrix owns this song in my universe and this version just underlined for me why Hendrix is the best of the best, the genius among geniuses. Johnny Winter's Highway 61 Revisited is my other favorite Dylan cover. The energy, the tone, the imagination, the knife sharp edge.

Yeah we all love Jimi's version but don't forget Bob Dylan wrote this song. This is just another version of Bobs song played with a jazz influence that the Allmans and Carlos are known for in their songs. Maybe some of you should broaden your musical tastes instead of just wanting it played like Jimi's version or acting as if music is a competition.

My favorite song of all time and collect the many different versions of it done by so many artists. Bob is the man of one of a kind lyrics and the ultimate version of it needless to say but am partial to Jimi’s version of it. He spent a lot of time on his version because he wanted it be as great as he could make it with a nod to Dylan. Thanks for your comment man.

Well Santana did say he would 'pass his axe down' -if or when he felt he needed to.. he named Derek. So there's that. And he started to say 'and, -since he was asked who he liked from the younger gen.. so Carlos seemed to try to offer one more young axeman..but he said nothing more. So there's also THAT.
