How could anybody give this a thumbs down? The best blues guitars I've ever heard. I'm 67 years old a musician been listening to these guys from the beginning and this one still raises the hair on my arms.

i think i'm the same age as you, i'm 69 , born in 1954. i became a radio dj during the summer of 1969 between 9th and 10th grade. i continued in radio until 2017 when i retired due to owner problems. i have been a Allman Bros fan since the first time i heard them in 1971.

Doesn't matter if you're a rapper, a pop diva, a session musician, or a touring blues player. Doesn't matter what instrument you like to play. You must know this tune and you must be able to play it cold the minute you walk into the studio.

This song could go on for 2 hours and I would still be in a state of southern blues roots nirvana! Gregg, Berry, Jaimoe, Butch, Dickie and the impossibly brilliant Duane...my favorite Allman Bros performance of all time. And one of many heartfelt Duane solos that are technically difficult, but even more soulfully astonishing...The Allman Brothers in the flower of their youth and at the peak of their incredible and gifted musicianship.

Arguably the best version of this song. Greg on vocals, dickie & duane playing their hearts out. The band has their entire, original lineup on this album. This album may have captured the ABB at their best. Legendary.

When I was a teenager, I was in a local rock-n-roll band in Decatur Alabama. My buddy and I would walk across the street to watch these guys "practice" their songs in the neighbors garage - before they hit the road and got famous. At the time they were between names (Allman Joys/Hourglass). One night they practiced Stormy Monday all night. The same song over and over. No other songs. Only Stormy Monday. We had school the next day so we had to go home at about 11pm. They were still practicing this song. Greg kept saying that something was wrong with the song. I thought it was perfect every time. So they played and played until they worked all the bugs out. Hourglass then went on to become the Allman Brothers. Pure dedication.
@gingervytis
@gingervytis 8 лет назад
+Michael Melonas "Greg kept saying that something was wrong with the song." Perhaps what was wrong was that they had not yet landed on going from b-flat minor 7 to D11 then c minor 7 over e-flat bass in the turnaround. Those unique changes are not on the 1947 T-Bone Walker recording, and they're almost never properly played by cover bands. Stormy Monday is called way too often at blues jams. If not played thoughtfully and with restraint, it quickly becomes wearisome and annoying.

Saw them in 1970 before they were popular enough to fill big arenas. Small auditorium, maybe sat 200 people in a little town outside of My. Loved me some Allman Brothers, and that concert( jam, more like it) was my birthday present. No one even there at front door to take out tickets!! Walked down to front row which was maybe 5 feet from stage!! Maybe 50- 75 people there on a snowy night, but made no never mind to them that we were few in numbers!! Played their hearts out, they weren't built to do anything less, then they took take a break, went to back corner of stage, light up a " Doobie" and drink a beer, then get back up and go at it again!!! Phenomenal!!!!! Lasted prob 2 1/2 to 3 hours, I guess, lost ALL track of time!! Unbelievable night!!! We watched them drive off into the night, in the snow, in a station wagon, waving at us as they pulled off. Maybe a year later, they were playing to sold out arenas!! Love their music to this day!!

When the Allman Brothers were up and coming I was young and thinking of our immortality; a friend said he was thumbing to Boston to see them play, and I said I'll see them someday. And then, I think it was a Friday I heard on WBCN that Duane had died. I was pulverized. His solos drove me to another dimension; my girlfriend started telling me NO MORE ALLMAN BROTHERS because she didn't like where the music (and other things) took me. I wore the high frequencies out of the albums. God bless DA.

I agree the sound quality on this concert is closer than a studio version. The best part of the members of the "Allman Brothers" is their versatility. They played with so many individuals that were part of other bands. Including long jam sessions with blues and rock and roll legends that are still around. It came so easy and natural to them, they could pull it off with no sweat. Gotta love that kind of talent.

Yep. I like to listen to different parts every time I play the song. The rhythm section is amazing!

Disliking a track like this is like disliking breathing! Live at the Filmore has been one of the greatest joys of my life! I wore out 3 LP copies before CD's came out!

this song, this is the best anyone's ever done of Stormy Monday. Every time I hear it it gives me chills and I start singing it like some ole man, some ole man missing his baby, but working hard and barely getting by, but he keeps trying.

Such subtle and deft nuance to their music. Such mastery of dynamics and true soul to their music. You don't find music like this today. Not even close. It's a lost art. Thank God for RU-vid, and people who understand what true music is. Thanks so much posting this!

Yeah, the "soul factor" here is unbelievable. This song is just like a an incredibly heartful and skilfully woven cathederal of soul.
