Allocation Calculation in Power BI

Excellent...very well explained! I see several advantages of your process over my Power Query (PQ) based allocation strategies. I typically do more of the allocation work in Power Query, which does involve adding more columns in Power Query, so dataset becomes bigger, but fewer dax calcs and relationships to build in Power BI report. And using PQ also requires using Dax Summarize in some instances due to aggregations in PQ. And finally, doing a lot more of the work in PQ can also limit the ability to benefit from many great Power BI AI features, since PQ data calcs and aggregations would adversely effect the Power BI logic capabilities. So, I see a lot of potential benefits of your approach over doing building the bulk of the allocation process in Power Query. Thanks for sharing.

What a great method... Thank you, helped a LOT. What if though (appart from allocating category-specific spend) I need to additionaly allocate general-type spending like rent lets say. That should be allocated accross all sales lines. How should I adjust your method?

You browse the entire YT ecosystem to find a solution and after trial and mostly errors you remember good old Goodly and suddenly the problem is solved! I made a slight variation by adding the concat column of the cost table in power query to follow best practice…

Awesome video!! Is it possible to allocate a variable number based on sales contribution? Unlike here where the cost is in a separate table. e.g. User will input the TARGET VALUE then the measure will distribute that X value based on share. Thank you so much!! :)
