Almost No One Talks About This Brilliant Van Helsing Game That Packs A Gripping Good Story 

This game was so underrated. I always appreciated how you could get your hat knocked off when getting hit. In the first fight Mr. Hyde would actually pick it up and wear it while taunting you. The developers deserved way more credit for that

Fun fact: if you had the movie on DVD you could play a demo of the game on your Xbox.

Me and my cousin use to play this when all the adults left. We werent allowed to play M rated games and just looking at vanhelsing on the cover gave us goosebumps. Awesome game, not at all forgotten

I’m playing this right now on PS2 and having a blast. Honestly one of the best movie based video games I’ve ever played. There are a lot of similarities to the amazing Indiana Jones games on PS2 as well - especially when your hat gets knocked off. And the voice acting really wasn’t bad. It’s a nice nod to Castlevania too with similar gameplay to Lament of Innocence. I picked it up at a used game store for just $9.99 and honestly think it’s worth alot more than that.

I played this yesterday while browsing random Xbox games and did NOT expect Devil May Cry 1 in a movie tie-in. I had an absolute blast during the first hour! But then, unfortunately, the quality dropped completely. Melee becomes absolutely useless in most encounters and against every single boss, so you just hold the fire button for 2 hours until the credits roll. It's amazing that somehow nobody told the devs that they ended up with Devil May Cry 2. But to be fair, Van Helsing is still a way better game than that as it keeps challenging until the end. The real shame is that you could easily fix its problems and bring back the fantastic gameplay flow from the early game: Give me an to dodge out of stun locks and let me interrupt enemy attacks like they can interrupt mine. A surprising and ambitious game that wasted its potential, probably because the devs had to meet the movie release deadline. Thanks for the video and your detailed opinion.

I played this all the time on my PS2. It was fun, responsive, and it took me years to find a few of the hidden secrets I kept forgetting. But I enjoy it greatly. May have to get it out and play again.

I've played it. Before I knew what Devil May Cry was. The story wasn't 10/10 but the enemies looked cool and it seemed the creators had a true love for the movie. Honestly it's like a less stylish DMC game.

This game was pure fun. Get to take on lots of different monsters? Check. Awesome weapons, including alternate ammo? Check. Nice soundtrack? Check. Faithful to the source material and adds more? Check. Lots of secrets, including cheats? Check. Easy to pick up and play? Check. Maintain some of the original actor’s voices in the game? Check. Sound effects and scenes that fit with the film? Check. Yeah, pretty much it. Not perfect, but sure is a lot of fun, as a new player or on replay. My favorite aspect is how the ammo works, you have no limit on primary ammo, and by using that primary ammo, you recharge alt ammo, so in the Dracula fights if you rapid fire with the normal pistol ammo, you can quickly recharge the alt ammo and then hit him with the Silver Bullets alt ammo, which does extra damage. At that point, the only other tricks are knowing how to dodge attacks. You really do feel nearly unstoppable once you know how to play, which fits a legendary monster hunter. Good video, I’m glad someone spoke positively about this one.

I kicked ass in this game! I remember I had unlocked all the secret outfits and mastered all the bosses. It was one of the few movie games that I really loved.
