It’s still not worth $1500 when I can get a 32 inch Gigabyte Aorus fo32u2p with DP 2.1 with 4K 240hz for $1200. LG has to understand that they’re not only competing against other TV manufacturers anymore. They’re competing against gaming monitors too. Especially with all the gaming features they like to advertise on their OLED TVs.
WoW! nice review, just what I was looking for, it's in my plans to use this as a monitor, just a question, may I ask for the Color/monitor profile?, as you corrected the accuracy I'm wondering if you can share that correction.
I have the C4 42 after selling my c3 42. Using it as a monitor with my 4090. All I can say is it is much brighter than the c3 and the 144hz is noticeable over the 120hz. Makes the absolute best monitor and prior to this I had a Neo g8 240hz 4k Mini led.
When i enable 144hz my colors get washed out, anyone else have this issue? AT 120hz colors look incredible, the second i enable 144hz colors are terrible yellow/green washed out color.
@@CRF250R1521 Using your Nvidia control panel you might have to scroll down to a second set of resolutions. You might have to enable hdr for the 144z mode. Not sure on this yet.
Most probably next year Gen 4 QD OLEDs will be 42 and 48 inch as Samsung is providing S90D in those sizes this year although with WOLED. It will be interesting to compare WOLED 42inch prices with LGs exorbitant almost hostage prices as there was no competition in this Monitor TV category for years
@@bren.r Agreed, I used the Samsung QD OLED and even though the colors could get bright the image was worse for PC's then LGs pixel alignement. Hopefully one day Samsung will fix the pixel arrangement on QD's. As for right now the best PC OLED I've tried remains to be LG's
I have the c4 55" and I can tell you one thing ,this tv is soooo amazing I'm loving the experience with my ps5 aswell !!! It's an amazing tv!!! amazing !!!!
I don’t get why the brightness thing is so important. My c2 is run at 10%. 100 % makes me feel like staring into the sun. Why do you want it to go so bright. Why is Samsung being brighter better. Do people sit with this outside? Ps thank you for the text part. NB into. Thank you
Because HDR eats up a lot of brightness and pictures don't pop. So a brighter screen is required to make the picture pop. Also, brightness is important for people who watch TV in daylight therefore a higher brightness makes the TV have a better picture
I don't get what the big problem with dimming is for desktop use. I disabled it with the technician remote control on my C2. I spend around 12 hours a day every day on it using it as an office monitor and also for gaming. It's so bright that I just keep the OLED pixel brightness always between 35-45 (and sometimes even that feels almost too bright) and I do at least once a week the pixel cleaning process. There are absolutely no signs of burn in. IMHO if we're being practical: $1k and being able to work and game every day on it even if it ends up lasting only 2 years with no burn-in is a money well-invested. I just can't go back to punishing my eyeballs with regular monitors or small screen real-estate.
THIS - i don't get all the talk about brightness and burn in... who the fuck uses these TVs at 50%++ brightness? As a PC monitor? I have a 42C2 since May 2022 and disabled ALL screen protective measures via service remote... gues what - no burn in after 10.000+ hours.
It's been a month since I've had the 42" C3 model and I absolutely love it that I ordered another 42" C3 and to find out they're coming out with a C4 model. I guess I'm fine with it since it'll be years till consoles get 4K 120. So I'm happy with the 42" C3 models for now.
@@freshs5647 He saved 1000 dollars and is missing out on 24 extra hertz and a tiny bit of extra brightness. By your logic the only time to buy a product is on release day other wise you may have buyers remorse that you didn't wait for the next one.
So about as bright as an LG CX? Not bad given how the 42" LG TV's usually have their brightness significantly gimped. And I'd definitely take this over the 32" QD OLED's out now--better real scene brightness, and 144 hz is enough. I do agree that this shouldn't be more than $999 though.
The LG OLED G4 seems to be having a significant issue with HDMI2 (eARC). Connecting external video sources to HDMI2 (which work on the other the other 3 HDMIs) do not produce an image (but you can hear sound). I have done all the troubleshooting in the world in order to try to isolate the issue to no avail (changing HDMI cables, factory resets, hard resets, removing the HDMIs one by one and re-adding them one by one, turned off HD color). Nothing works. The interesting thing is that this issue temporarily goes away with a hard reset, but it quickly returns. After unsuccessful attempts at getting effective tech support from LG, I purchased a second 65 G4. Exact same issue! On 4/4/24, LG pushed down an update 3.10.27 which has not resolved the prob(in fact, it's not even addressed in the release notes). I should also point out that the setup I am using is the exact setup I have had with a C9, CX and a C3 just before getting the G4. This HDMI2 issue never occurred with the other TVs. The devices I am talking about which work on other HDMIs but not in HDMI2 of the above-referenced TVs are Fire TV 4K stick, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV 4K and PS5. If this is a software issue, then it can hopefully be addressed quickly by LG, seeing that the G4 is their flagship OLED and the problem is with the most important HDMI - the HDMI2. However, if this is a hardware problem (difficult to believe that both units were defective - in fact, I heard from another LG customer that he is having the same issue with a 83 G4), then LG has its work cut out for it. I can't think of many people who would be willing to wait for a hardware fix which would require for a part to be replaced by a tech's visit on a brand new TV which has been lauded by LG as ground-breaking. All this would be very easily clarified by LG, but up until this point, it seems to be pushing customers (at least me) to an endless loop of bad customer service and then either that (a) the unit is defective and sine it's under the 30 (or 60 in my case) day return period, it can be returned, or (b) to send a tech to diagnose the issue. What exactly the tech would do beyond what i have done to troubleshoot has not been communicated by LG (unless they believe I would be conformable in having the tech open up a brand new TV and start exploring . . .). This is very disappointing. I hope that the various reviewers take note of this very easily identifiable problem (all you have to do is connect a few video sources into HDMI2 and observe for a few hours while turning the TV off and on an again). This way, the interested customers would be informed and LG would provide some information on this issue.
You say it’s better than previous models, but everything you talk about with the exception of 144hz is the same as the C3, so why would I spend $1500 when I can buy the 42 C3 for like $800?
He says, in practice, the C4 just looks way better and brighter. Especially in game mode. The C3 had very clear problems when in game mode. Consider actually listening next time.
Tv guy here, the c4 is noticeably brighter than the c3. Had them side by side and the difference was very noticeable. Not only that but the processing is much better too.
@@SKLLZTHATKILLZ They won't add DP, since its a TV. A TV is not made for PC monitor usage. Yet the small ones can be used, yet sucks in faster paced gaming because 42 inch is way too big for anything outside of casual gaming.
@@rjj00 exactly. Most people wouldn't even be able to tell the difference if it had MLA or not. Proof this is thing doesn't need to be $1500 at launch. Oh I forgot - no competition at the 42inch space, so LG can charge whatever they want

42 C2 owner here. Outstanding colors, great for gaming, not so great for design in Illustrator or Photoshop, because the white value changes depening on how much white there is on the screen. Overall a stunning TV.

@@SanjayK-GoldenRatio your comment actually got me hyped for the WOLED samsung panel so I got to digging.. and it seems that their official site is marketing the s90d as QD-OLED instead of WOLED. Are you sure about the woled or was it some other tv you were reffering to?
@@liftor7894 That’s the issue with Samsung’s false marketing they push S90D and S905D as QdOleds while Samsung Display do not male any 42,48 and 83inch panels so Samsung electronics had to use LG display’s Woleds for those sizes
Don't waste your time with regular WOLED, the colours are lousy, they suffer with too much green in the image, and the out of box black crushing has to be corrected with a pro calibration. Go for QD-OLED instead. ;)
You cannot. Or atleast you cannot on the C3. I tried but that requires you to permanently be in 'factory mode' which means every time you turn it on you need to wait like more than 30 seconds for the factory mode text box to dissapear. Or is there a way around this that you've found?
Thanks for this review, I thought you were going to share the settings you used, would love to see how close mine are aligning with yours, also I wanna ask which HDMI cable are you using and what is the graphics card for your PC. Did you enable Dolby Vision or using normal HDR?
Can you please measure brightness and color luminescent while using a widescreen solution? 1600 vertical would be perfect. I would run it this way most times and the brightness should drastically increase if 1/4 of pixels are black (6 mil pixels vs over 8 millions on 4K 16:9)
@@bren.r Depends on your desk. I’d wager most desks are at least deep enough to handle 32”. The only time I can agree with you is for particularly small desks or for competitive gaming. I’d rather use a 32” monitor in 95% of use cases.
So we still only have small upgrades over the old LG CX (which has 800 nits peak, 120hz). I would love to see a G4 in 42" with proper brightness - these mediocre C upgrades are not it.
c1 48" user here since it's release. I initially got it in 2021 because it was the smallest oled. Now I feel like I dig up a hole for my future replacements. I don't think I want to go any smaller now. I got used to the size and even speakers quality is good. I just have it standing on my desk. I am thinking about downgrading to 42" but c3 42" was still dimmer than my 48" c1. Maybe c4... The choice is made easier for me because I hate matte displays. Glossy ftw!
Theres always so much focus on using these 42inch models as a monitor, but I'm more interested in using something like this for a smaller room where 55inches wouldnt be practical. If im watching an SDR TV broadcast or some old movies (not HDR) will it be too dim in anything but a dark room? The market for higher end TV's in smaller sizes is sadly very under-served.
I have a phillips oled 808 42 inch. It has next gen ambilight wich is a plus but the brightness of the LG C2 42inch and the C4 is a bit better. But not enough. Thanks for the review. Its best to just wait until the finaly put the better brighter panels into the smaller 42inch size tv's for PC gaming.
Would you pay £300 fpr the C3 or £600 for the C4? My C2 has damaged pixels and Richersounds will only offer a voucher. So unsure in which to get next for PC
It’s crazy on the prices right now between the c3 and the c4. I am cheap. I am thinking to get the c3 65 inch for 1499 dollars instead of spending 2499 dollars on the c4. I there any big differences between the new on over the old c3? Worth the upgrade? Thanks for your input.
Not that much,If you get a good deal on the C3 you could get 77 inch for close to the same price as the 65, i've shot it for 1680 just 2 month ago new. Main difference are the 144hz.
I’m either getting a 55 inch G4, S95D, S 90 D or just wait for the Sony TVs. One of my rooms are really bright so I feel like I really need that S 95D and I watched some people with the G4 see themselves in the reflection
there's only 48" available in my country and 42" is already too bif but doable for me. i cant deal with the alienware AW3225QF bug and issues. what should i get instead?
You’re just an oled lover. And you favor clarity over brightness. To each is own though 700 nits is a must for me at least. Not everybody loves that lol. Good content though. Nice cats 🐈 😂
@@joeyh3291 Ah okay. New ipad has one of the first tandem oled panels and it gets really bright for an oled so maybe that will be a thing in tvs / monitors now.
@@definingslawek4731 i returned the 42" C3 but didn't get the 48" C4, i bought the C3 about a month ago. I think i'm just gonna get an OLED pc monitor as I really don't need a screen so big.
i manged to scoop up a LG C2 42 for like 550$ with very little use. Sold my monitor for 200 basically had to put 350 from my pocket. Best purchase ive made since january . The new oled monitors look amazing and higher refresh rates but the prices are still kinda wild . I dont think ill be switching anytime soon lol. Probably gonna keep this for as long as i can. I had purchased a LG C3 for like 900$ but the same week i got it i saw some dude posted LG C2 with very little use for 550 and decided to return my C3 because i saw theres basically no difference , i didnt notice anything tbh . Saved myself a good chunk to put towards a rtx 3070 which isnt the best for 4k 120hz but i just play valorant and non demanding games. So it will do for now . Oled is really game changing and the glossy finish is insane. Before i got the C3 i had tried the LG 27 ultragear oled monitor but the matte finish was not doing it any justice. It was 240hz but even the 120hz on the LG C2 feels just as good . I wall mounted the c2 42 with these extreme slick wall mount cost me 20$ from amazon . Its the best thing ever :D
To be honest for pc i won't get a monitor or tv that doesn't have Dp 2.1 yes no GPU has it yet but since I'm gonna upgrade to the 50 series when it release and the 50 series gonna have it why would i pay 1300 for a monitor with out it over a monitor with it that cost 1200 doesn't make sense but why did the LG c4 jump up so much in price
@@thedisplayguy i do get that but why wousd buy a monitor like the asus qd oled that cost 1300 when the gigabyte qd oled that cost 1200 and has the dp 2.1 it dosent make sense to me to pay more for less thats all
Looking to upgrade from the C7, what are the differences between the C3 and C4. I’ll be using almost exclusively for content streaming and not gaming. I’ll be getting 55in or the 65in. Thanks.
Still a beautiful display, but they've basically been making the same one for 4 years now. Except from 2022 they've stripped out their advanced hardware based rolling scan BFI. And without that 120/144Hz is a blurry mess. (At least if you've seen CRT, advanced BFI, or high refresh rate displays, and have seen their good motion clarity.) So one is left with the 240Hz or better displays that at least give the option to try and brute force some motion clarity, except there it is a choice between LG's terrible matte coatings or Samsung's glossy screens, but with the flawed blacks. Still pretty messed up out there...
@@5ean5ean22 wow you dont say.... i would like to know if it makes a visible difference. im using cx48 right now for gaming and my image is pretty sharp and im not sure if an "upgrade" to those newer models is really worth it.
I will wait for this to go on sale and get this, Contrast and brightness is better and the 144hz, I have patience. Oh and the 55 inch and up is brighter and has brightness booster.
